Kevin and Theresa Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Kevin and I have had these classes in our sights for quite some time. Now since we will have the Oliver we are considering staying in a campground and taking one late next year. Has anyone had any experience taking any of their classes? Thanks Theresa 1
Moderators SeaDawg Posted August 11, 2021 Moderators Posted August 11, 2021 I have not, but one of my brothers has taken a canoe building class (among others) at the North House folk school in Grand Marais. He really enjoyed it. These classes, teaching traditional skills and crafts, in a small group setting, seem like an ideal camping experience. My brother and I have talked for years about taking a traditional Norwegian timber framing class. Jim_Oker Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 No but I built a couple of Pygmy kayaks (they're based in Port Townsend, WA) which was a rewarding project. They use stitch and glue technique with marine plywood, and the result was a pair of very seaworthy, light, and pretty boats. 2 Jim and Yanna, Woodinville WA 2004 Ford E250 camper conversion Oliver Elite II hull #709
Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted August 12, 2021 Moderator+ Posted August 12, 2021 My late brother and I built a fiberglass and wood strip canoe from a kit back in the early 70's after seeing Deliverance. We had a great time building it and it did fine on placid creeks and lakes but one trip down the Buffalo National River in NW Arkansas did it in. I don't even remember us bringing it home. 2 Steve, Tali and our dog Rocky plus our beloved dogs Storm, Lucy, Maggie and Reacher (all waiting at the Rainbow Bridge) 2008 Legacy Elite I - Outlaw Oliver, Hull #026 | 2014 Legacy Elite II - Outlaw Oliver, Hull #050 | 2022 Silverado High Country 3500HD SRW Diesel 4x4
