Recommended mattress topper and sheet size for Elite II standard layout with King bed?

Although we just signed our sales order last Friday I'm a planner and needing advice on what mattress topper and sheet size people are using for the Elite II standard layout with the King bed conversion using the standard cushions not a mattress.   Any and all recommendations will be helpful.  I may have 10 months before our pick up date but I'm very excited.  Thanks all of you.

We bought off-the-shelf King size sheets and a heavy slip on mattress cover for our pickup trip. They fit well enough that we still use them. One set of sheets included long pillow covers and we found these slip over each end of the backrest cushion section under the rear window so we can use it as a head board and keep it protected. The slip on style help hold the cushions together well enough that we don't notice the seams very much but it also makes it difficult to access the water valves under them. In cold weather we add some sleeping bags on top and that makes the bed very cozy.

Same here mostly, however my wife is a seamstress extraordinaire and customer made our linens for the bed. We did use a standard King 3" memory gel topper but don't recall the brand. Lately I have considered bringing in two twin mattresses and story the original Oliver cushions though.

Thank you so much for this information.  I was imagining doing the same thing, however I was unsure how they standard King size sheets and mattress pad would work with the curvature along the front end.  You have put my mind at ease.  Shopping I shall go.

Thank you for replying to my question. It really was helpful.  I might be able to tweak the sheets, but I am no seamstress.  I bet yours are beautiful.  The info regarding the memory gel topper is very helpful.

We really liked our RV Sleep Sack.  It is a king size sleeping bag with velcro in sheets.  Very comfortable. It has a summer and winter side.  It works well if you want to break the bed down.  Just fold it up and stick it at the head of the bed and your dinette area is open.

I know this is an old thread, but figured I’d add onto a thread that is close to my topic rather than start a new one. 

We’ve tried a couple of mattress toppers to make the “king” bed in the LE2 a little more comfortable for our old backs and stiff joints. 

Wr started with the basic 3” “memory foam” topper from Walmart that has no cover. It was just OK - but lacking a cover it tore easily and basically ended up in several pieces and had to be tossed.

Next was the roughly 2-1/2 inch memory foam topper from IKEA that has a thick cotton/poly cover on both sides. The cover protects the foam and keeps it from getting wedged between the gaps between the cushions. 

BOTH memory foam toppers are incredibly heavy! Also too heavy for one person to carry by themselves. Both come compressed (Walmart - folded and strapped into a box about 2 feet square, IKEA - rolled in a dang heavy cylinder wrapped in heavy plastic. 

Between several spills - mostly cats launching morning coffee or tea onto the bed - the covers on the IKEA pad were looking pretty gross. They ARE removable and washable IF you have a super high capacity washer and about two hours to dry it. Getting the foam zipped back into the cover is fun to watch, but not impossible. 

When a window leak left us with a soggy bed, we decided to replace the topper. Off to IKEA. (Remind me never to go there again. I got my 10,000 steps that day.) 

We remembered that the memory foam topper we got the first time wasn’t quite the top of the line, so we figured “Oh boy! Upgrade!” but once we got there (and there wasn’t an employee to be found) we discovered they no longer have the topper we have - or the better one. Bummer. 

We chose a 2-3/4” standard (not memory) foam pad with similar padded cover. A bit lighter than the memory foam - but still just as expensive. $299 plus tax. 

We lugged it to the truck, unpacked it and heaved it on. Put on our sheets, and instantly - hated it. 

It bunches up. Pulls away from the sides, and leaves a mound between us. To be fair, we gave it two weeks to let it - and us - “adjust”. Today - we decided it’s not gonna work. We took it off, slid it back in the bag, and rolled it up. 

We dried out our previous IKEA memory foam mattress topper and I think we’re back to being mostly happy. When I get ambitious, I’ll pull the covers off and see if I can at least lighten the coffee stains. 

For those curious - the current IKEA product that gets our 1-star rating is the “Norrsele king très Grand Deux Places”. 

(If anybody wants it after I dissed it so thoroughly, let me know - I’ll make you a helluva deal.)

We use a 2.5” matress topper and love it. It is no longer available from Amazon but was listed as BedStory 2.5 Inch Mattress Topper RV Short King Size.  It works great but sometimes pulls up from the sides a little after 5-7 days, but that’s when we usually change the sheets anyway. I would note that changing sheets and making the bed in a king Oliver ain’t easy, but we have gotten used to it

For years we used a Temperpedic 3 inch memory foam topper. It works, was heavy and also a pain to deal with while trying access the basement. So earlier in the year while doing some repairs and other mods we decided to eliminate the cushions altogether and replace with two twin mattress we bought at Costco. Since neither of us are tall sleeping in line with the trailer works just fine for us and we have never used the main dinette anyway. The smaller dinette at the kitchen works great for the two of us.

This method is far easier to access the basement too with only one thing per side to lift. So far so good. I would recommend this method as a possibility.

I try not to in there too often - but not the usual reason people avoid basements. Winterizing/un-winterizing, and to the other side to manually trip and reset the main DC breaker when storing and recommissioning.

It certainly is a pain when you have the original cushions, condensation mats underneath, topper and bedclothes on top…

Exactly. The newer models, certainly not ours, have many of those electric controls out of the basement. Some Oliver owners have also installed remote valves for the water/plumbing side. Good idea I just hate fiddling with plumbing. It really is a far easier to deal with sheet changing with two twin mattresses and piece of cake to lift them for access below. We should've done this years ago. No regrets so far.

We do not have the king setup, but we did replace EVERY cushion in our Oliver! 

Also hated a king topper we had at home years ago. We'd sink into the foam making us sleep HOT!

We now use Brooklyn Bedding at home and the Oliver. They manufacture in the Phoenix West Valley and have every RV mattress size imaginable. They roll up and box their mattresses and ship everywhere. If you're ever down here, they have several store locations across The Valley.

They have new models this year, with hybrid (foam/coil) models in RV sizes. We purchased two 30x75" foam beds 2 1/2 years ago for our twin bed setup. We went with 12" mattresses based on the fact that the taller the mattress the softer the feel (you can see that in their charts). The 12" mattresses are heavy, but Chris is able to lift them/stand them sideways to work the sheets. I'd prefer a shorter/lighter mattress for the Oliver, but they might be too firm.

Time to take care of our older bodies! We had to replace the dinette cushions too. The original cushions were 4" and we made ours 5" tall. We had these custom upholstered at a local shop with higher quality foam for $500 OTD. Boy, the OEM ones were ugly, and my bony butt doesn't hit the hard fiberglass right through the cushions anymore! 😎

I did look at those Brooklyn Bedding mattresses but ended up for now doing the ones at Costco. Like I told my wife if they don't work out after a trip or they will be easy to sale on craigslist. Agreed on the existing cushions. The foam in those are pretty bad. We need to at least replace that if nothing else. Your new cushions look great.

Thanks, Rob! Your local upholstery shop should be able to produce something equivalent when using quality materials and attention to detail. Our shop used high-density upholstery foam and Sunbrella fabric. This brand is designed for outdoor furniture and comes in dozens of colors!
