Wanderers Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Good morning, we will be taking delivery of our Elite 2 in April. Has anyone hard wired a Hughes 30amp autoformer in the Oliver? We plan on spending winter in the desert and would like to protect against low voltage problems. PerryG
dewdev Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Not sure if this answer's your question, but Your Ollie should have a EMS system installed (likely in the attic on the newer models). Check it out in the Oliver University to see if that provides the protection you are looking for. Some Ollie owner's also use a surge protected connected at the power pole that the Ollie cord is pluggged into. Below is a picture of the EMS. This unit scrolls through and measures (1) Incoming line voltage, (2) Incoming amperage and (3) a error code which I think indicates if the incoming electrical source is acceptable and if not will stop the source from providing power to the Ollie. 2018 Oliver Elite II, Twin Bed, Hull #354 2024 RAM 1500, 4 x 4; Gas. 5.7L V8 Hemi MDS VVT Torque; 3.21 rear axle ratio w/TIMBREN spring rear suspension Maine
Wanderers Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 Well the Auto former makes sure thee voltage stays within limits as it boosts power by 10 percent when needed. I'm worried about thee compressor on the AC unit runing at the 113volt cut off. Maybe I'm worried for nothing? PerryG
Moderators SeaDawg Posted February 15, 2022 Moderators Posted February 15, 2022 The only person that I can remember installing an autoformer is @WhatDa. He hasn't been on the forum for awhile, but you could try a pm. Here's the thread where he discussed it. 2008 Ram 1500 4 × 4 2008 Oliver Elite, Hull #12 Florida and Western North Carolina, or wherever the truck goes.... 400 watts solar. DC compressor fridge. No inverter. 2 x 105 ah agm batteries . Life is good.
Wanderers Posted February 15, 2022 Author Posted February 15, 2022 Awesome, thank you for the info. If no one is installing an Autoformer on the Oliver owners must be doing ok. See ya on thee road, PerryG
ScottyGS Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 No direct knowledge but... Have heard that autoformers are frowned upon in some campgrounds because they pull the power from other sites. Heard it on the internet so it must be true. Might want to consider that...
