Decor / Style Issue: does it look like a tub surround?
mountainborn replied to alex k's topic in General Discussion
SaWeeeeet ! Dude, U da" Man ! Yep, you are right, it is about how you are going to use it, and having it built accordingly. Good luck ! You are going to love your new Oliver and you will fit in here well, with all the rest of us "sold out" Oliver fanatics ! -
Internet Satellite and internet telephone
mountainborn replied to mountainborn's topic in General Discussion
Looks like you prety much have it figgured out. I recently talked to dealers and installers who advise that their latest modem cannot be moved over eighty feet from it's origonal installation coordinates, or it quits working the first time it shakes hands with the satellite. We are looking into other alternatives but nothing solid yet. Man oh man, it sure would be sweet if the king dome on our Oliver could be used for that also. You got any suggestions ? -
Decor / Style Issue: does it look like a tub surround?
mountainborn replied to alex k's topic in General Discussion
Buddy, I wish I could help you, but I ain't equipped for it. All my life I have been a motel six, pickup driving, pound puppy kind of a guy. Actually, I maybe puttin' on airs there a bit. I have been known to pick polk salad greens, out in a paper company clear cut, for supper. My suggestion would be to search deep into your soul and determine if you want it to look good in the front yard, or if you want to actually use it. Now I hope you don't misunderstand what this ill equipped redneck is trying to tell you. But, it is about what you actually are going to do with a travel trailer. Personaly, I havn't much use for built up areas to camp in, so our Oliver has a high lift axle to better access rural areas. Please see the quote in my signature line, by a great american visionary. Your Oliver would likely suit your use beter if it had the lower to the ground axle. And I guess there in lies the answer. Since the Oliver factory custom builds to each customer's specifications, you just need to call Robert. He will ask a few simple questions and start specking( sp? ) out your very own Oliver that meets your needs. -
It has taken a bit of adjustment, mostly in sorting what we think we may need, versus what we know we will actually use. Our gas mileage has more than trippled and our jeep when not towing, gets 22.5 to 23.5 mpg for "lookin' aroun' " ! We never would have been able to go over those very cool Colorado Jeep trail passes before, yep, wer'e happier in our Oliver. From our old outfitter days when we provided wilderness trips on mules, we carried many heavy items such as a full set of cast iron dutch ovens. We plan more carefuly now, and we pack more carefully. We are having more fun and seeing places that we would never even consider in the 34' MOHO. We do not live in our Oliver full time. We think we could, though. This coming Spring we will likely become part timers. Geeze ! I wonder if we qualify as part timers right now. We are getting to use it often, lately.

Sherry, our experience has been quite similar. Because we have such great manuverability and ground clearance, we tend to explore more, in search of the very type of campsites that you describe. Because we are still in America's workforce and our time off is somewhat limited, we tend to push a little harder, traveling later in the day, and leaving out as the sun is coming up. We find ourselves sacrificing gas mileage for speed, in order to fit our destination into a weekend, or a "extended" weekend if we can arrange it. We long for those days that are looming on the horizon, when we retire and can switch gears , so we don't have to push as hard. Starting to look for a campsite earlier in the afternoon. Visiting with nearby neighbors. Regaining some gas mileage. Traveling lesser roads at a more leisurely pace, because we don't have a work schedule to return to. Our Oliver has allowed us to maximize our Rv experience, even in these times of high gas prices. We are so glad that we aren't still in our class A motorhome getting 5 mpg ! Great report and the photos were wonderful ! Oh, yeah, who is that distinguished looking gentelman, sitting there, chillin' by the brook ?

By way of UPDATE: Jonathan has made the necessary changes and granted permissions. The new moderators are beginning to check in on their new forum and are beginning to "bone up" on the moderators guidelines from various forums. They will pick parts from different ones, that suit our needs. Then compose the rules that they will moderate by. This will happen over on the Moderators Forum, so as not to disrupt the normal flow of information on OLIVER FORUMS. Several on here have a "skeleton" in mind of how OLIVER FORUMS might be laid out and be as user friendly as possible. With that in mind, please post your thoughts on a skeleton for the forums.

First ever Oliver Rally.. where are you?
mountainborn replied to technomadia's topic in Submit Your Story
Spending the night in the factory ! Holey Schizzle ! Is that cool or what ? -
Coushions with a "egg crate" foam cover cut to fit. Travasack.

Yes, the first Oliver we ever saw was a 2007. Here is a link to a YouTube video of that 07' Oliver, it was being shown at the River Valley Egg Rally in Fort Smith Arkansas, by the then Sales Manager Jared Rose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40vF_7pOxmw

Sorry, I can't help with the exact number, but I can tell you when ours was made. It is one of the first of the 08's and it came off of the line in the seventh month of 07'.

The Technomadia Oliver - Construction Diary
mountainborn replied to technomadia's topic in General Discussion
Yeh, me too ! You know they are super busy. I'll bet they spent the night at the local campground while they familiarized with their new Ollie. -
Yes, you have put your finger right on it. Sorting, categorizing and assigning areas to moderators will be among the first issues we address. As soon as we get the guidelines for our moderators in place we will begin to work on that and a few other things that should make the forums easier to surf thru, and a more pleasant over all experience. Thanks for your input.

Great report. Thanks.

You may have noticed a new MODERATORS FORUM listed. As our board has grown in size and membership, it is time for a bit of re organization. Up to this point we have been in one large category. It was comfortable until it ( the category ) began to get so large, that those just joining, had a big task ahead of them when trying to catch up on the reading, just so they would be on the same page as everyone else. We have asked some folks to help as volunteer moderators to help with the re organization and the ongoing chores, of keeping things categorized, to assist those just joining our Oliver Forums. Most of us wouldn't want to have to read hundreds of posts in order to glean a single peice of information, before asking a question. Please bear with us as we sort, re sort and make a few changes. Most of us are new to the business of moderator, so we will likely begin with a few guidelines that the mods will impose upon themselves. You won't see that part, it will be on the moderators forums. Now some might say, "that's silly", rules for how the moderators will react, that is. But it seems hardly fair for us to ask someone to volunteer to help, with a play book not present. Give us a short "sorting out" period please, and then our forums will really begin to smooth out. With most of us being new to this sort of thing, suggestions will be appreciated. This forum has been a thing of learning and pleasure to this point. I look for it to get even better in the near future.

While SURFIN' other FORUMS . . . . .
mountainborn replied to mountainborn's topic in General Discussion
Sherry said: PS I think I posted this here, too.... under a tow vehicle thread just for grins > Yeh, I remember, now. Still cool though ! -
Our maxaire vent cover has no fan in it. It does have the opening facing down and it has a good stainless steel screen to keep out wasps and dirt daubers. The fantastic fan's thermostat isn't remote located, it is in the fan housing it's self. The fantastic fan moves so much air that we seldom use any speed but the very lowest. The exception being hot humid days. Geeze ! We are in the hot, humid South, maybe we use higher speeds more than I thought ?

Hooked up to the Ollie, flags on the fenders, were you guys entered in a parade ? Very cool ! -
I came across these great photos of our very own SEADAWGZ !! Look at that old classic Jeep, a M48, maybe ? Olivers n' Jeeps, a fun combination ! Like the Jeep ad says, fun is standard, pavement is optional. I think that goes for Olivers as well ! > > > The seadawgs posted their pix on TRAILER LIFE FORUMS. Thanks you guys !

We have the Maxaire 800 and the fantastic Fan with the rain sensor. It works well. We use it for most occasions. Even when not running, the vent flap is open inside the maxAire cover while going down the highway. I hear that the new fan from Sure Flow, (is that the right name ? ), is much quieter and has some other convenient features, that intrest us. We would consider it in the future.
