  1. I ended up with a king size latex topper.

When I go through them on Amazon, I found you have to go by the specified shipping weight. The real ones have a density of 5 lbs/ sqft most of the imposters are 2-3 and are super soft spongy.

Would you be able to post a link to the latex one you ended up with?

  2. Tell us about your Clam please. It took a beating and kept on ticking? Did you have just screens? 3 or 6 privacy panels? What size? Would you put a heater in there? We have had an arctic breeze come up off a lake and a little warmth would have been nice. Would the panels or screen be enough? As you can tell we have been considering, but have yet to see one first hand. Thanks

Bob, your always welcome to stop by again, we've had our CLAM up, in the yard, since we got it in the spring. With all the winds we've had this summer the only issue is the roof popped down. It's the large one and has the 5 panel covers. I wouldn't hesitate to put a heater in it, if needed, but with the panels on your only limited by air temp.

Currently, for the last 2 months, it has only been staked down at the ground points, not the center screen tie downs, this works really well and eliminates the trip hazards.

  3. I do not think that between the three units, any of them will disappoint. The others have a bit more fit and finish to them vs. the NovaKool from what I've seen, but whereas the only thing that shows is the front on the door, that wasn't a concern for me.

Performance wise, no doubt, no question, worth every penny, I'm amazed at how rock solid it is at holding temperature. The freezer isn't a zero degree freezer, but maintains 18-20° while the fridge is 35-36° on a setting of 4 out of 7, higher colder.

My choosing the 5810 was based on fit and space. It actually has slightly more interior room, while occupying a smaller space, due to loss of heating components. The unit is approx 4.5" shorter than the Dometic. I also wanted to close off the exterior vents, to keep the outside temps outside, so I elevated it, split the difference and draw cool inside air in the bottom up the back and out the top, the microwave nook is elevated in the cabinet so 2 - 140mm (I think) ultra quiet low power computer fans are connected to the compressor and come on whenever it runs. Sitting at the dinette, it isn't really noticable.

Honestly, with the standard solar (blue sky), power draw is 25AH overnight, I wouldn't recommend ever going near a propane fridge for these trailers, as you said, for the price difference it just doesn't make sense.

Good luck, let us know what your research determines.

  4. Thanks for the input on the battery! The 2018 Ford Expedition actually has a tow capacity of 9,300 lbs, unless I’m really misreading the specs! It’s one of the reasons we chose the Ford. I think the current Expedition is 9,200 lbs. Yeah, I defintely wouldn’t want an SUV that could tow only 6,600. I’d love the Mercedes that you have, but I suspect it might be out of my price range. ????

Properly equipped, with a weight distribution hitch, 9300 seems correct. 1000lbs more than the navigator. Looks like an excellent choice.

  5. @ Randy, really I’m surprised to hear you’ve run into this. As previously stated on two long Montana winters we have stored our Oliver for months at a time and never has the DC voltage dropped below 12.83 ± a tenth. I will be doing the same this winter again. I’m not sure how the converter could possibly draw a parasitic drain if its completely disconnected like it appears to be on ours.

Let me apologize, I did not mean to confuse the parasitic draw discussion, my post was for using extreme caution, I would not want someone sticking an arm down into the electrical area thinking everything was off. I just retested and if you shutoff the switch and trip the two breakers, then press the inverter button, you'll find all the AC turns on and powers up.

  6. We watched a youtube video starring the couple with the LEII and George was complaining a little bit about the Andersen No-Sway Hitch system. He says it is very hard to hook up to if the TV and trailer are not perfectly aligned.

I've always disconnected the chains from the plate, to disconnect, doing this allows you to hookup the way you would a normal hitch and pull away, once out of your bad angle situation you can hook one chain, then tow it tight, straightening the system and hook up the other. Nothing says it has to be exact right from the start.

  7. Just for clarity and for anyone else stumbling into this issue and conversation allow me to explain how one cuts off all power to all devices so there is no parasitic drain. On the street side of the camper in the storage area below that side of the bed (king for us) where the Blu Sky controller is mounted for those with the solar system there exist one large red switch that turns the Blue Sky off, but there are also two rather unusual circuit breaker switches, one for the solar controller and the other for the entire electrical system. Our Oliver is in storage several miles out of town otherwise I would provide a quick and dirty photo for those interested. Anyway the circuit breaker to the far right is the one that turns off all electricity flowing from the batteries thus preventing any parasitic drain. Just in case there is confusion on how these breakers work, given their unusual nature each of those should have a smallish push button mounted to the top, one is yellow the other red. Once that button is pushed a lever underneath swings out approximately 30 degrees or so while cutting off the respective circuit. The circuit it turned back on by pushing the lever back to its original position. Presumably those without solar power would have only one of these circuit breakers. Hopefully this will be helpful to prevent any major battery drains in the future.

That's what I thought too, until I had a problem and found out it doesn't, at least on hull 69 it doesn't, still measured current draw on the big cables (battery) under the rear dinette seat. The only way to kill everything was to disconnect a battery terminal. If I remember correctly, the inverter has nothing to do with those little breakers.

  8. From my understanding, the blue sky requires a few days of solar activity and use activity to get its reference bearing. After that it should all indicate correctly.

The only concern would be if you depleted your batteries too much and then I believe you would notice it in that they wouldn't hold a charge for as long a period as they used to.

  9. Hey John, they did only use the 5200 for a short time, when they couldn't get the 3500, they never changed the trailer rating for them. It funny because it must have just happened to be when they were doing the website and when someone checked all the equipment, that's what was on there so that's what they listed. This was the big discussion on here last year and they finally updated the website to the 10" specification.

I've attached a photo so you can see the 5200 and get what you can from it. It looks like there are 4 leafs. If Steve doesn't I'll give you the measurements later when I'm back to the trailer.

  10. I know some of those on here have a "green" house, shout out to Sherrie, how about an RV? I stumbled across this RV featured at the Dusseldorf Show (no, I wasn't there).

While only a working prototype, it does offer promising tech and features.

  11. I am prepared to sacrifice some living space for less maintenance! We hope to be joining the ranks soon ????

Welcome to the family. While you may think you are sacrificing living space, you will be greatly expanding living real estate, with how many more places you can go and fit in. And, at least you don't have to worry about having a big enough tow vehicle.

  12. John, you're so shy, have you ever thought of counseling to bring you out of your shell and better express your feelings... ;)

I don't disagree with your visual assessment of the body styling. Some do actually like them though, so all options make for better decision making.

  13. That’s a very simple and practical way to lock the drawers closed without putting any extra stress on them. I like it. We haven’t had any indication that the drawers are opening, but they could be, and I’m also always wondering about the dresser drawer too. We took Ollie on some very rough roads last trip. The dinette window covering fell off and, of course the dinette cushions took a hike.

John, you bought yours used, I think I remember you saying before, if so all the units before 2016 with the side mount slides are much more robust and have not opened for anyone I can remember posting about. Reading your other update, it definitely seems you will be the test case for when they might though ; ) having managed to knock your window covers off..

  14. After delivery I’ll post some pics. Ours will be the dexter kit so it will be interesting to compare them to the HydraStar. The Dexter actuator is much larger, which I don’t like, but there may be advantages – I’ll have to wait and see

Is this something the factory is installing for you then or ordered direct with them, if so what was the option cost? If not, do you have a list of all the parts needed for the Dexter kit? I have the 5000 lbs axles already.
