Generator consideration for the Elite II
Liana replied to Vic and Wanda Shumate's topic in General Discussion
We have the Honda. I can lift it and move it around myself. We'd need the companion one to run our AC, but lifting two lighter ones separately is a lot easier than 100 pounds of anything. Plus the Honda is so so so very quiet. -
Remote power button not working for Xantrex 2000w inverter
Liana replied to tallmandan's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Glad you posted. Mine will shut the inverter OFF, but I have to get under the bed to turn it on! Appreciate that there are good suggestions here and that it's not necessarily something I'm doing wrong. 😄 -
When this happened to me, I had a loose connection between the source (your bleach bucket) and the pump such that it was drawing air in and cavitating.

Harvest Hosts Acquires Boondockers Welcome
Liana replied to John E Davies's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
I like that it's easy to see which is which on the search map. I would NOT be using peoples' driveways in city neighborhoods, but for your purposes, that would work great. I upgraded mine about 2 months ago when I was trying to plan our itinerary through Michigan this summer and completely struck out because it was too far ahead. Apparently the BDW hosts don't book more than 2 months out. Since all the MI state parks and state forests were booking up fast, I didn't want to wait so never did book any BDW sites. I use HH all the time when in transit somewhere -
Towing test - Tundra vs 1 ton Dodge Diesel
Liana replied to Mountainman198's topic in Towing an Oliver
I've seen it at over $6 on my recent travels. I agree with @Mike and Carol that it makes zero sense. BUT, to your point, I already own a diesel, and as much as I love my truck, I'm absolutely certain that Toyota would do a better job. -
Towing test - Tundra vs 1 ton Dodge Diesel

Honestly, I wish Toyota offered a diesel! 😄 -
I appreciate the graceful response. Some people have a math block, I seem to have an electricity block. I have zero confidence that I would know how to remove the batteries safely, OR replace them, despite so much good information that you all have shared in different threads on the subject. for example, when @topgun2 said, "turn off and unplug my inverter and turn off my solar panels" I looked under the bed at the inverter and couldn't see where one would unplug it. The transfer switch is plugged into the inverter, but I don't see any particular way to unplug it. I did check the wires to it, they seemed quite secure. I also couldn't figure out how to shut off the solar panels. That info must be on the zamp website somewhere, it's not intuitively obvious. I can certainly just go ahead with the BB upgrade (I was waiting til they went on sale, which is now), and the local shop was going to charge me way too much money to do this. I don't know any reason *I* should not be able to figure it out! Again, I'm grateful for the grace all of you have shown

I appreciate this thought and wonder If they would get back to full charge if they're bad? It takes til early afternoon with 350 w of solar, an hour with the generator.

Update. This evening I Had the inverter on, batteries read full, and the following Plugged In: my computer to an AC outlet for a zoom meeting, my phone into the USB port , a USB device plugged into an AC outlet (no shore power). Partway through My meeting I was receiving texts on my phone (plugged into 12v USB) that was serving as my hotspot and emails and the inverter started beeping when A message would come in. Nothing tripped, batteries Still showed full charge, no other indication Than beeps. I bailed out of zoom, shut down computer and no further incidents of beeping. Possible That computer plus phone plus USB device is taxing the inverter ? Furnace wasn't on, microwave was on but not running, pump was on but not running, truma on eco mode but not running, nothing else drawing power. Boggles. Seems a call to xantrex is in order tomorrow

I honestly Have no idea what tripped it Either and we've had some other unexplained electrical issue in The past. Had Oliver service look at it last year when it was in for service and they didn't find anything wrong. Like you said, at least I was able To recover. 🤷♀️

Thank you so much. I wasn't plugged into Shore power, running off batteries. But you gave me some ideas. Checked breakers, fuses, then I Remembered so many mentions about the GFCI being tripped. So I Reset the inverter again and checked the GFCI, sure enough it was Tripped. Reset that and I Seem to be back in business. Wish I Knew what tripped it tho PS, the E.51 was actually me seeing the Number in my camera backwards - the reading was 12.3! I amuse myself so! 😂

New experience for me, couldn't find anything in a search. Batteries (Trojan AGMs) read full, inverter on, tried to use my toaster and the inverter started beeping and cycling the Display on the microwave on and off. Microwave was not in use (It only serves as storage for me!) Undid the bed And find the inverter (still on) with E.51 displayed. Tried resetting the inverter, unplugging the microwave , no Joy. The manual doesn't have E.51 nor can I find anything On a Google search. Anyone?

BB told me that the batteries go on sale twice a year: summer and Black Friday.

I really wanted a way to be able to continue to compensate for draw on the batteries - eg, furnace - during the night. I think when we get switched over to Lithium, we really won't *need* to do that, it just seemed like it should be possible and would be convenient.

Update, if not much of one: The RV park does not own the wind turbine, the adjacent business does. He bought the property with the turbine installed and said he doesn't know anything about it. (?) I had a lengthy conversation about this with a full time boater over the weekend. They had two different wind turbines on their boat and echoed what was said earlier in this thread: that they're expensive, noisy, and not a good value (bang for the buck as it were.)

@John E Davies I did not see it, thank you for the link. Everything that came with the controller just has their website posted in every language. Well, a lot of languages. 😄 It is true that our batteries are old and I will convert the system to lithiums when the BBs go on sale. We don't have a "next" camping season, we use the trailer year round, full time in the summer. I did get everything hooked up and operating, full charge on the batteries within 30 minutes with the rooftop solar and the extra panels attached to the sidewall port. Mostly I compiled this system for our airstream, which has a Wanderer controller, and chose these components because I've had bad experience with components that don't play together well. I'm genuinely grateful for how helpful you all are!

That is exactly the post I was looking for, thank you. @John E Daviestrailer has a different side port than ours.

OMG, you're right!!! I saw the furrion adapter on someone else's post in the forum and assumed that was correct. It is the zamp port and I have - thankfully - one too many adapters. Will send that one back, Thank you for pointing that out

I've received all of the components I ordered to copy *someone*s portable installation (why is it that when I find cool stuff that someone does, I can never find it again when I go back to look for it?), tho that installation changed out the connecters from MC4s to super cool "foolproof" ones, I didn't go that far. I was about to start assembling all of this and realized I'm not sure how to wire the charge controller because the pics that were in that post showed the front of the controller but not the back that would tell me how the wires got attached. Setup is 2 Renogy 100w portable panels plus cables and connectors to join them together, the Renogy Voyager (20 amp, 12/24v) charge controller, polarity reverser and adapter to SAE connector, then the SAE to Furrion adapter. Do I wire the controller for the way the Renogy wires are pos/neg and the polarity reversal will do what it's supposed to do? 2018 LE2 with 4 Trojan AGM batteries Also, the Voyager has a port for a temp sensor, do I need to have one of those or will the controller be fine without one?

Haha, I slogged through the whole thing! But, I do think the first half is of the most use. I think what I am going to do first before going any further down this rabbit hole is set up a weather station on our property. Our winds, according to a couple of different wind monitoring sites, come from predominantly W-SW. The west side of the property, as I mentioned, has minimum 50 ft cottonwoods and aspens, so about the only time we'd have "clean" air would be if the winds were directly out of the south. We do get sustained winds in the 10-15 mph range and many times gusts to 35. But I don't currently find a "small" setup that would be suitable for charging the RV batteries. I have calls in to the RV park and NAZ wind and solar, and I haven't given up yet. Just going to do some data collection first. 😄

Bill, that vid is from August of last year and I don't see anything further from them about their process (they've posted more videos since then, just not about the wind turbine). Maybe they bailed on the project because of all the reasons you all mentioned, which he also mentioned in the video.

Does this mean that the sidewall Zamp port is not tied to the Zamp controller? What would happen if a turbine was plugged into the Zamp port while the sun is on the panels? Are they incompatible? To my electricity challenged mind, how does the Zamp controller know the difference between 12v from the solar v 12 v from the wind generator (if the controller takes input from the sidewall port)? I'm sure there's a schematic somewhere that answers the question of where the sidewall port goes, I'll see if I can find it.

We summer in Salida, about an hour north of the Great Sand Dunes NP. There is much to be explored in that entire region, and I have failed because I didn't consider the eastern plains of CO to be part of the state! Oops, I'm sure the folks who live there would take issue, much like the folks outside of Phoenix - our winter home - do about how Phoenicians think the entire state of Arizona revolves around them. 😄

in Colorado, ALL water is other people's water, even the rain water. We do have a stream but it does not have enough head to generate any electricity. We also have 300 feet of S Ark river front, but getting permission to divert any of that into a collection to drive a turbine (of any size) requires Army Corps of Engineers involvement. I can assure you, I have not one desire to engage in any of that! Especially because the river flow drops almost to a trickle in the summer. I'm going to keep looking into this to see if I can find something quiet that has a lower cut in wind speed. There is an RV park up the road from us that has a wind turbine above their reception area, and they are on kind of a rise so catch a lot of the local wind. Their turbine - quite small - is about 40 feet in the air. I intend at some point to contact them about their setup. I don't aspire to that setup, but their experience would be valuable.

We have PLENTY of room for Ollies and no HOA! 😄 50 miles SW of Colorado Springs, depends on what you consider a Colorado attraction! I consider the whole state to be one, well, except for Denver. Haha
