  1. When we lived in  Ohio, we used to use jet snow blowers on the railroad equipped with old military jet engines to clear switches.

We have 6 1/2" so far, 25F, getting windy, too. It's a dry fluffy snow.

At 10:00 am Saturday morning we have about 4.5 inches of snow.  Temps are falling - 27 degrees at 7:00am and 24 degrees at 10:00 am.

Before you start to laugh - please remember that this is the "sunny" South, home of "Rebels" and Moonshine.😃

I am going to go against the grain of this topic and ask 'who on this forum has experienced any problem with the Battle Born batteries'?

We have one BB 100AH 5 years old and two BB 100AH less than 1 year old, We have not experienced any issues with BB batteries so far. We recently installed two Epoch 105AH Smart batteries in Ollie and moved two newer BB batteries to a stationary non RV application.

  4. This is a good video!

After seeing this video and the new Alcan springs/shackles installed on Olivers, I'm still going with Alcan springs and shackles on Ollie later this year. This couple's Alcan shackles are not the same design Alcan shackles installed on Ollies.

Thank you, very kind of you to offer Chris. We are in really great shape here. Our roads are really iced over and we are well prepped.

My bride made a huge pot of black-bean soup with lots of Kentucky Legend smoked ham and a super loaf of homemade double cheese bread.

We are set, let the weather roll in!! 😎

As of this morning at 9am the area around Brevard, NC has been basically spared from what the forecasts were calling for.  We received only about 1/4 inch of ice (so far) but there is still freezing rain falling.  Even though the lights have "flickered" a time or two, we still have power.  It is forecast to continue with the freezing rain until around noon and then turn to regular rain until about 6pm.  I've not seen how the rest of the State of North Carolina is doing and can only hope that areas west and north are doing OK with this storm.

Around Lincolnton NC it's about 20F with temps forecast to increase to about 30F before temps drop again this evening. Freezing rain forecast through today until this evening. I'm seeing what looks like sleet right now. So far power is OK here with reported outages around the area. Temps forecast to drop to high single digit Tuesday AM, that's very cold for this area around Charlotte NC. So far Spectrum internet is working, too.

Here’s the usage chart this week. Orange is heating and red is emergency/auxillary electric heat strips. Temp has been single digits to the 20s, with wind chill as low as -10. The thermostat is set at 63 degrees.

It’s a comfortable 71 degrees here in the Florida panhandle. 😁

That's interesting about the location of the heat pump & code. That's a neat graph, too!

Hope the forecast improves, will have a better idea tomorrow.

Can't hurt as long as you don't restrict airflow.

Agree, planning to have 3/12 pitch (new at this) and making it easy to set up/take down along with compact storage.  Will see!  🙂

    Thanks,

  9. We have a heat pump here in southern NC and have a question, has anyone here experienced damage to their heat pump or familiar with damage to a heat pump from excessive freezing rain/sleet/snow build up on the unit's fan and exposed components?

I'm thinking about installing a temporary 4'X4' tarp about 2' or 3' above the unit during the storm to keep excessive amounts of ice out of the unit. Since we've lived here winter storms have not been as bad as local news stations are forecasting this storm to be.

    Thanks,

Reviewing this picture taken during installation, I'm pretty sure the new one is the outer one. Hard to see all the wiring though. But it really shouldn't matter! Two shorty 4/0 cables have negligible resistance. I'll soon see if I wired it incorrectly.

Battery Bay all 3 Tied Down.jpg

If the wiring is correct, also thought there may a loose or bad connection in a cable, but the current draw looked even across all the batteries. The minimum torque on my Epoch lugs is 70 inch pounds. Geoff gave me the torque in NM that I cannot find, but I had converted the minimum torque to inch pounds.

When you go to Q, there will be plenty of knowledge there to draw upon.

One of my window shades developed a problem.  The outer nylon covering of one of the cords has separated from the inner core and is bunching up between the pleats, preventing the shade from collapsing/folding completely (see photo).  I can only collapse the night shade partially now, leaving a quarter to a third of the shade unfolded.

This thread has been very helpful to understand what I need to attempt and how.  This does seem difficult and potentially frustrating to tackle...  Thank you to those who have shared info and tips!

? Question to those that have replaced broken cords:  Can I dissasemble the shade frame and replace just one of the four cords and leave the others in place?  Do I have to release tension on all four cords and take everything apart and start over?

It's not as difficult as it looks, I would replace them all so you have the same size/age cords in that shade.

The AGILIS CROSSCLIMATE LT225/75R16 tires on our Oliver have a spec dia of 29.3". They list the Cooper Discoverer HT3 LT225/75R16 at 29.2".

They must have changed the molds, the question in when. I'll measure the ID of the fiberglass spare housing and soon we'll know for hull #113 too.

I'm guessing around 2017, that's what I came up with in 2024, but I should have asked Oliver when I talked to them about the fiberglass spare tire cover.

  13. The following thread on Will Prowse's forum started last August, (mentioned on page 1 of this thread) is up to 62 pages so far,

    https://diysolarforum.com/threads/battle-born-battery-issue.110295/

I cannot embed the YouTube link, but "Will's Garage" (not Will Prowse) on YouTube has done a BB autopsy with discussion videos.

This video by "All About RV's" shows Will Prowse's video and expands on the subject:

So while doing so, I’m going to remove the spare and see if my LT225/75R16 tires fit. If yours do and they haven’t changed the hull molds…

It will be helpful to learn your findings on your 2016 LE2.

From what I have learned some 2016 LE2 had 215X70RX16 spare tires and our 2015 LE2 had a 215X60RX16 spare tire. @CRM 2010 LE2 #45 was equipped with 15" tires from Oliver, if I remember correctly.

When I contacted Oliver during 2024 they said the Goodyear ST225X75RX15 would fit our 2015 LE2 fiberglass spare tire housing, but LT225X75RX16 will not fit. Our spare tire housing inside diameter measurement is about 28 7/8", don't remember where the measurement was taken on the outer, middle, or inner portion of the housing. Cooper's LT225X75RX16 Tire height is 29.28'' with a Section Width: 8.86'' and Goodyear's ST225X75RX15 Tire Height is 28.28'' with a Section Width: 8.86''.

I had understood our 2018 F150 with the factory tow package came with upgraded shocks ( better than stock shocks on F150s without the factory tow package ) but this truck squat is extreme when we lower the bulldog on the ball

We had a 2024 F-150 5.0L that did not have the maximum tow package, when connecting Ollie had too much rear end TV sag. I installed the Timbren Rear Suspension enhancement system and got rid of the sag with Ollie connected, but it was a firm ride with Ollie connected. Installed rear differential airbags on two tow vehicles and really liked that system when towing Ollie, small adjustments can be made with air pressure adjusting rear end sag.

Hmmm? Is my spare something a prior owner changed? Ron has a 2020 and Sam a 2025. Asking @topgun2 and @Mike and Carol who have 2016 hulls: Are your 5 tires all the same size? It would be great if I could replace my spare with LT225/75R16 if it fits inside the fiberglass surround.

Our spare tire is as old as the trailer but I believe it's been replaced, since a P-rated RWL tire that doesn't seem to be OEM. Replacing the spare has been bottom of my list because if/when we get a flat, I would more likely park/detach the trailer, remove the wheel and run it down the road for repair.

On our 2015 LE2 a 225X75X16 tire will not fit in our spare tire housing, so I installed a 225/75/15 Goodyear ST spare, same tire that Oliver now installs as standard. Oliver said the fiberglass tire housing on the 2015 LE2 a 225/75/15 tire would fit. My 2015 Ollie came with a 215/60/16 spare tire.

Here's some research done on spare tires:

As far as towing level, I'm starting at 23 1/4" from top of the ball, our TV settles about 2" with Ollie connected, the F350 rear end is still higher than the front with Ollie connected, with Ollie looking close to level. Our Ollie towing experience has been very stable with original 5200lb axles and original Dexter 5 leaf springs.

We had the 4 leaf alcans put on in October and they are a great upgrade.

They also gave me the extra leaves in case I wanted to add them in the future.

I also replaced shocks and equalizer at the same visit an it only took Alcan 3 hours.

Appreciate the photo and good move to replace the shocks & equalizer, too.

I checked with Tim and Alcan's spring wet bronze bushings are 1 ¾” wide 13/16” OD x 9/16” ID, compared to my Dexter's 5200lb 1 3/4" wide 11/16" OD X 9/16" ID spring wet bronze bushings, Alcan's wet spring bronze bushings have a thicker wall.

    I like our Dexter's 5200lb 12" brake drums, too.
