Andersen WD Hitch Periodic Maintenance?
gbergh replied to Galileo's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I appreciate your sentiment. I simply cannot repair or have the mental acuity I had when I was 80 year of age. I purchase those repairs and maintenance until they will no longer fit my budget. Then I must no longer enjoy the Oliver and the joy it brings to my quality of life. I had to make the same decision when I no longer could sail as a result of manual dexterity. Thank God I have the where-with-all to cover maintenance and other costs associated with my Oliver.. -
There is a Love's Truck stop at Hardin on I-95 and also one in Great Falls. Not all of the Love's Truck Centers have Truck service. Hardin and Great Falls are a bit of a hike from the Bozeman area where I believe you are located.

I have used Love's Truck Center for replacing the Struts on my Sprinter 3500 with Koni Struts. As I recall the work was completed within two (2) hours for about $200. They did an excellent job. I failed to mention I purchased the Struts from Agile, who specialized in Sprinter suspension for approximately $400 for the pair. I made an appointment at Love's and waited about one week.

"CQ, CQ, CQ..." Any HAM Radio Operators out there in Ollie-World?
gbergh replied to MAX Burner's topic in General Discussion
HF transceiver is SGC-2000. I employed the SGC-200 antenna turner in the Ham Shack and functioned well into the back stay on the boat. I also have the ICOM IC-2730A Dual Band VHF/UHF 50W in the F-150. I have had my Ham ticket since 1957. I still fire up the Heath Kit SB-301 and SB-401 from time to time . I built the two in the mid 60's. They were considered the poor mans Collins Rig. 73 de W8CB -
A Double Ender can turn my head as fast as a beautiful lady can turn my head. God had a great day when he created Double Enders. Take a critical look at the Oliver from several feet above. Clearly looks like a double ender.

Clearly the best of all possible worlds. I had to retire from Sailing when my balance became inadequate.

Every time I enter my Oliver "Long Time no Sea" I think of the Columbia 26 I sailed 40 plus years ago. I brings back many happy remembrances. I have attached file with pictures.. Oliver Use of Drill Guides compressed.pdf
-
I have attempted to copy and paste to a pdf file.. The pictures did not copy. I will attempt to provide the actual article with pictures et al.. Our Olliver Trailers are like fiberglass Sailboats. Practical Sailor has articles and tests concerning almost everything related to Fiberglass. Many Oliver owners use 3M adhesives. Those like 5200 is nigh to impossible to remove. Practical Sailor test several products to remove 5200, 4200 etc. Mastering Precision Drilling.pdf

An interesting article I read in Practical Sailor. It may be of interest to some, like myself that is challenged to drill a straight hole. https://www.practical-sailor.com/boat-maintenance/diy-projects/mastering-precision-drilling-how-to-use-drill-guides?MailingID=1794&sc=SC20240814-BoatMaintenance&st=email&vgo_ee=JA0W5PcLI8UFaGVDnUeXDEo6mAAEeCjjBzSln3Cd%2Fc4%3D%3AZaF3gSySaDxQxFNjeCAFHvi8GoKHYPmk

Has there been any thought given to upgrading the Norcold refrigerator by having the Danfoss compressor installed in the Norcold unit? The mechanical engineering involved installing the Nova Kool or Isotherm would seem to be much less arduous. Clearly way beond the capability of the average Oliver Owner. Those who do accomplish that Herculean feat are Master Mechanics.

@Kathy Tewart The Isotherm Cruise 130 has functioned well. As reported by several Oliver owners, the freezer is small but it meet my needs. I have the Norcold in my 2017 Navion 24V and the Isotherm is much preferred. Temperature remains +or - 3 degrees F. I purchased a portable refrigerator as an adjunct to the Isotherm that travels well in my Ford F-150. The portable is capable of zero (0) degrees F however I have found I do not require the freezing temperatures as the portable keeps the Beer at the perfect temperature of 50 degrees F. The Isotherm Cruise has been employed by many in Power and Sailboats. John Davies did a spectacular job engineering and installation of the Isotherm. I would suggest that you take the John Davies installation documentation to various installers and get a quote on the installation. West Marine sells the Isotherm and surely they will assist if finding an installer.

John Davis reported long ago that 45 psi to 50 psi was optimal for our tires in that size range. He had that right!! i use 50 PSI to give a bit of a Head Room for monitoring.

I purchased the Michelin CrossClimate 225/75R16 C tires in Sarasota this past winter. They were on sale for $185 as the person who ordered the tires did not want them opted to have a different tire. They were an exceptional buy...

The "C" designates Metric.. There is no LT in front of the tire size numbers. What is the typical temperature of the tire trailer tires above ambient on Asphalt or Concrete pavement? I have noticed the temperatures higher on the sunny side of the trailer as would be expected. The tire size and pressure matrix I have seen has never stated a temperature maximum.. George

Victron Multiplus II 3000 - Installation Xantrax Removal
gbergh replied to Ty J's topic in Ollie Modifications
Yes, especially as you approach and view the Pitons and Rodney Bay. The Rain forest and the l Toraille waterfall is a beautiful sight. What make and design is your Sailboat. Shortly after My 75th birthday, I had balance issues and could no longer sail. When I engage in a chit chat about sailing, I miss it very much. Bicycling and Ollie have done a great job of diverting my attention. Surly, we are going to be reprimanded for venturing OFF Topic. -
Victron Multiplus II 3000 - Installation Xantrax Removal
gbergh replied to Ty J's topic in Ollie Modifications
I delivered an 85 foot sail boat from St Lucia to Newport, RI. The MultiPlus and the batteries were becoming rather hot, 90 degrees F. Blue Hull with full sun. I stopped in Martinique and procured a three inch flexible hose. I ren it from the bilge to the Multiplus compartment which also housed the Battle Borne batteries. I removed a muffin fan from an unimportant function and drew air from the bilge to cool the batteries etc. This worked like a charm. After clearing Bermuda the jury rigged cooling system was no longer needed. george -
Victron Multiplus II 3000 - Installation Xantrax Removal

Katanpilot, I do not possess the skill set nor the mindset to install the equipment properly.. If one has the skill and good mindset the cost to install is greatly reduced. The greatest cost of the project was installation cost. Take a look at the Victron Forum and there are many who will provide great ideas to a successful installation. I have also seen used gear for sale a few years young.. One who want to upgrade from a 12v to a 24v system etc. I believe strongly the Victron solution is the right solution. Does the Katanpilot refer the the DA20? I have had the delightful joy of left seat in that ship. Diamond makes some great airplanes.. Very Respectfully, George -

@SeaDawg, I still have the Navion 24V. I chose the Multiplus over the Multiplus II. The Multiplus was a couple of hundred dollars less money. The Multiplus II is capable of handling Grid applications or functions. I saw no merit to the Grid capabilities. Victron sells either the MultiPlus or the MultiPlusII in various VA. The Victron solution has worked flawlessly for several years. I also employed the Victron and Battleborn system in my sailboat. Albeit, the sailbot was for racing and has a spartan interior, ie no Hot water, HVAC or Solar. I was concerned with powering running lights, autopilot and instruments. The battleborn afforded all the power I ever required as long as I monitored the battery temperature and kept it about 80 degrees F or less. I delivered sailboats to the Caribbean, Fllorida and two trips to England after I retired in 2000. The vast majority had a Victron system. As John Davies pointed out proper installation, temperatures and SOC, the Victron System is almost Bullet Proof. Respectfully, George Bergh
