I even lugged a big 2-1/4 square camera and tripod to the top of Sentinel Dome in Yosemite to duplicate AA's picture of the old Jeffrey Pine growing there.

Unfortunately, unbeknownst to me, the tree had died during an extreme drought three summers before despite the rangers best efforts of hauling water to the top every day to try to save it. So all I have to show for my trek up the dome is a picture of a dead tree. Oh well, it was a famous tree.

@ScubaRx - FYI:  spent a night on Sentinel Dome back in the day after slogging up from Badger Pass on cross country skis, ah, the times of a mis-spent youth!  The next morning had the most beautiful sunrise peaking over Half Dome to the east - never will forget that one...  OBTW:  Frankly, I'm liking your version of the tree better than AA's, anyway.

While digital photography is cheaper, faster and easier, I believe we have lost some unique and special qualities of film. Your story reminds me of this gentleman -- he was making tintype images at Shiprock when I stopped by in October 2016. He developed them right there in a tent. Here is his blog post about it:
