Right now my built-in sensor is reading about 5 degrees off in cooling and 10+ in heating. I found a thermisor with a 10' lead. I used all of it for the route that I ended up using. It got me well away from the unit and out of the airstream of the plenum. Your test is limited by the length of the existing thermisor.
