  1. To all, I knew I would get great answers from this forum! For now I only plug into shore power when I go camping with the grandkids. Not that I won't go boondocking when the opportunity arises but for now I'll be happy with the camping I am able to do. I don't keep the battery plugged in anymore while parked at the house so this has eliminated me having to frequently add distilled water and I use the red switch to kill the batteries until I do need them. I do check the batteries regulary and for now all is well . The idea of solar power and AGM or is it AMG? batteries is totally appealing to me even though I don't NEED either right now. Many thanks for the wonderful explanations. Each of your answers has convinced me all is well with my original battery setup and that for now even though what I think I WANT is not necessarily what I NEED! Now on to the next question!!! I sorta understand but not totally why 6 volt parallel? battery connections is totally sufficient instead of using 12 volt batteries but that is for another thread. I sure don't wanna wear out my welcome at the BRAIN TANK.
  2. Hello to all, Please forgive me for not being sure whether I should continue about batteries under the solar thread. I have had a question for a very long time and maybe somebody could answer. Since the battery box is sooo small, would it be possible and is it advisable to move the batteries, install long red and black cables, and locate the batteries on the tongue's generator metal basket? My hesitation if it can even be done is that the batteries would be close to the propane tanks. I am still in the hoping for AGM batteries mood. Locating the batteries in the generator basket would allow me more flexibility on having 3 larger batteries. I appreciate pros and cons, yeas or neas. The knowledge shared on this forum and the other fiberglass trailer forums is wonderful. Thanks for your help. Jam49
  3. Hi Jonathan and Hazel, A BIG TEXAN welcome! We look forward to hearing all about your travels with Ollie. Keep us posted. Jam49
  4. Thanks for the photos. I'll have to call the factory to see if I can buy the hook from them or find out where they got it. J
  5. I just received a knob made of recycled glass that I found online. It works perfect on the cabinet door. It will be really nice to use the extra storage space next time I get to take Revilo camping. How true the saying is - Necessity is the mother of invention! Your friend Lois also rearranging to make the most of her little gem. I look forward to the day when I get to meet many more of my neighbors just a little further apart. Sorry for the ramblin' - Owning fiberglass travel trailers like the Olivers and Casitas, and Scamps, and all the others is a magical world that I wish everybody could experience.
  6. Hi Cherie, I had to go look at the photos again to see how the modification was done. When I was trying to make a decision about the Casita, storage and captain chairs were two issues I also thought a lot about. I still love the Casitas but the Oliver just allowed me to choose the options I wanted, as yall know. It looks like that couple has the best of both worlds - storage, swivel, and returning to bench if wanted. Yall will have to post photos when you find the solution that works best for Kiki
  7. Since I leave the back table down I felt a little squished. I removed the small fiberglass extension piece and pushed the wider single mattress to the back wall. This left me room by the stove and the opposite side by the stripper pole. I found the perfect small cabinet at Goodwill, painted it, and put it on the side by the stove. As soon as I can figure out how to post pictures ( my computer doesn't like my disc to upload instructions) I'll try to post some to show what I did. I now have room to store cereal boxes, food, etc. J
  8. Cherie, Could you post a picture of your monitor security hooks as yall travel down the road and how yall secure the monitor with bungee cords? Thanks. Are yall coming this way (Austin) anytime soon? J
  9. Hi Cherie, Somebody on the Casita forum posted the mods to the captains'chairs. Go to casitaclub.com and on the top right there is a topic called DIY mods. After you click on this go to medium mods, and you will see how the seats were modified. Another person made a triangular wooden back rest to put under the cushion. I have two square very soft pillows I use instead of the cushions. Good luck on your quest to find comfort for the side dining seats. I have a question for you so I will start another thread. J
  10. Now yall get to bring that extra stuff you always wanted to bring! Did you keep that 6"??? pvc pipe? That looked like a handy contraption.Seriously, I am glad for yall. Have much fun for all of us not able to be at Jugfest. Maybe one of these days!!
  11. I will just have to settle for the almost as good as being there. At least those of us not fortunate to enjoy the experience in person can savor what it must be like with the videos, photos, descriptions, etc. Keep em coming. J
  12. White of course, to match our Ollie ! Mountainborn, Now how are people going to tell our Ollie's apart with us both drivin' white Ford pickup trucks!
  13. Tumbleweed, Sorry yall aren't able to use the suction cup stuff but I bet your trailer is awesome.
  14. Scubarx, I just received a coupon for BB & Beyond in the mail. Now I know what I will use it for. Thanks. J Sadly, I can't come to the Jugfest this year.
  15. Scubarx, Where did you purchase the suction cup bathroom door holder? I have been using a bungee cord but I like your solution much better.
  16. Hi Sherry, I bought two of the Eva Dry 500's to rotate. When the crystals turn pink (indicating the unit is saturated) I take the unit into the house and plug it in to the wall. I leave it plugged in over night and it is warm to the touch as it dries out the crystals. When it turns bright blue it has been dried out ready to be used again. While the one is getting dried out, I put the other one in the rv. I bought this model because I wasn't sure if it would work and didn't want to spend a lot of money. As pleased as I am with the model I have I think you would be very pleased with this model. I looked to see if batteries were needed to power the indicator light. If you decide to go with this model it would be good to ask how the light works. I am very pleased with my basic unit. I originally found it by searching the internet. It may be my imagination but I think it has helped with the humidity control. Let us know if you decide to get this model and if it works. J
  17. Hi Steve and Tali, Yep that was me and Revilo like Pete said. I just posted a quick note about how much fun it was to be at the Hillapalooza rally and didn't look at the previous posts until later. Unfortunately, I had to leave early. Phil and Denise are very good hosts and they and all the other people are sooooooooooooooooo nice. I could do this rally thing full time since it is that much fun.
  18. Such fun! Thanks for posting the pictures for us to enjoy.
  19. Eric, Thanks for the battery info. I have learned a lot as I try to take the very best care of my Oliver as I can. I think I want to get AGM batteries so I don't have to "water" but I haven't studied the pros and cons yet. I so appreciate the postings. Jam49
  20. Hi Aubrey, I bought the Schumaker SE1275A Battery Charger fully automatic with engine start. After charging the batteries, I put them back in the battery holding area and hooked up the cables - so far so good. I have power again. The monitor generally reads 12.0 to 12. 1. I think this is the level is should be reading. I do look forward to eventually getting the AGM batteries. I have a use for the batteries I have in Oliver so they will not be sittiing idly. Trial and error, forum discussions, internet info, and the pursuit of education to care for everything concerning our Olivers goes on! Thanks for the input. Jam49
  21. Hi Sherry, We have had some freezing weather. I had the battery charger in the garage and had to take the batteries out so that I could recharge them. The batteries are heavy and not real easy to take out or put back in to the sliding tray. I am learning a whole lot about batteries as I am trying to figure out the best way to take care of them --- push the red switch??? leave plugged in to shore power??? let the battery run down then charge??? add a battery disconnect on the battery?? so many questions. I have gotten some real good information online as I am searching for answers but I still have questions. It sure would be good to have a question and answer manual. It sounds like there are others who have questiond whether to plug in to shore power continuously, etc. As always I sure appreciate the dialog. Hope yall are stayin' warm. jam49
  22. Hello to all, I have been researching batteries after the fact of purchasing my Oliver. Now that I have had it almost a year, I have decided that I should have gotten the AGM batteries! I know they cost more but I think the price will be well worth it for me to buy them for the convenience of not having to check water levels. Are the Concord/Lifeline AGM batteries still the best on the market? Where is a good place to buy AGM batteries or would it be better to go online? Is it better to use two 6 volt batteries with the higher AH or go with the two 12 volt batteries? What brand?? works well for charging? and, is it possible to have the batteries relocated to the front in the extra metal basket on my Oliver travel trailer? I struggle with lifting them in the built in storage area. Thanks, Jam49
  23. Thanks for sharing. I am going to add this info to my reference list. Concerning the showerhead faucet: It would be good to not hang anything on the showerhead holder except the showerhead. The holder is only connected to the fiberglass wall with a not too long screw. I found out the hard way after I found both on the floor after hanging a not to heavy accessory on the holder for what was supposed to be temporary hanging as I was cleaning and organizing inside.
  24. Oliver Travelers??? Just a thought. Who is going to have to make the decision with so many fun names being suggested?
  25. Wish I could have been at yall's wedding but right now work gets in the way of all the travelin' I would like to do. It is most enjoyable seeing the photos and reading about the travel experiences. Keep on postin'!
