Hmm, this time, first in 11 years, we had a nicked bearing. Have the backup kit, now. Just in case. Sherry

Cruising for five years, you have certainly learned how to manage 12 volt power, though your battery banks in the boat were likely much larger than the batteries in the Oliver. Solar can always be added, and you'll find out along the way if you want/need it. We added ours 6 months after we got out Oliver. You could hedge your bets with a zamp or furrion port installed on your Oliver. It's easy to pick up portable solar along the way, or order it online. A couple minutes to set up if you have a port. We do feel we need our solar panels, but we almost never camp with electric hookups, and we have a dc compressor fridge now. We're just now adding solar to the sailboat this year. Beautiful boat. Congratulations on the sale of your motorhome. Now the wait begins for the new Oliver. Welcome aboard!

For the new folks, that advice might be ok in a rural area, trailing freshwater as you go, but, a cop can't tell fresh from grey or black. In an urban area, you might just get pulled over... I'll give my water to the flowerbed... https://splinternews.com/the-time-dave-matthews-band-dropped-raw-sewage-on-100-p-1793849906 http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2009/04/keith_urban_steals_tour_bus_tu.html Sherry

Overland, glad to hear you like all the Victron equipment. We are Using Victron in our boat installation this year. We like our BlueSky in the trailer, and love their customer support, but the boating community uses a lot of Victron. Thought we would give it a try. Unfortunately, it's already getting hot, and the repaired hardtop hasn't arrived yet. Wolfdds, you'll be way ahead of us on your install. We'll look forward to seeing yours! Sherry

Good question. My RV insurance is through Good Sam's. Never thought to ask them. Good Sam's insurance does allow you a discount when your RV is in storage. You just have to call. Saves a few bucks in the off season.

So, I tried a different course this time, after all, and I can't really recommend it. Quite dull compared to the aarp course. The American Safety Council course is $15 instead of $20, but the aarp class is still a better value, to me. More thought-provoking, more interactive, and much more interesting way to spend 6 hours of online time, IMO. Sherry

Congratulations, and happy motoring! No better family memories for us than camping, sailing and travelling together. Cute kids. Maybe someday they'll reveal the story behind the cute trailer name. ? Sherry

Back in the early days, there were several couples who fulltimed in the Elite, the smaller trailer. That required some serious downsizing, but they managed. The smaller trailer could easily work for one person, and one small dog. The truck bed becomes important for storage, but the lesser weight of the smaller trailer could make up for it. Back in the day, some people tried to make the Elite into twins, which you can do, but the beds are only 26 inches wide, or so.Too small for most couples. You can, however, create a twin bed thwartship with a twin xl foam mattress, and have some extra space for added cubbies. The normal thwartship (east/ west) bed is the large dinette area.. queen long, more like full size bed width... We never set up the big dinette anymore. We leave the big bed up fulltime, and store three crates under it. The little dog sleeps on one her own bed, atop one of the small dinette seats. The Elite has the same equipment as the Elite II, but not a ducted furnace. (Unless that has changed... our 2008 is not.) With one person, less to tow, less to clean, easier to fit in tiny spaces... Have you seen either model in person? That's really important in such a big decision. Best of luck, Sherry

Norcold Refrigerator Digital Readout Shifted Up

I only ask about the battery level because fridges are known to do odd things, or quit working entirely, when the battery level drops below a certain level. Sherry -
Norcold Refrigerator Digital Readout Shifted Up
SeaDawg replied to CedarForks's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Did the display panel show everything correctly when you picked it up? Is the new fridge a 410 or 412? I'm guessing you have the trailer at home. I've never heard of this particular problem, but, lucky you. If your trailer is at home, I'd take a photo of the model and serial number plate, and the control panel, and call norcold. Other questions, and Norcold will probablyask a nymber of them: Did you use the fridge at OTT, and on the way home? Has the trailer been plugged in since you brought it home? Is the trailer plugged in now? What's the voltage showing on your battery ( on the seelevel guage)? Are you running the fridge on ac, dc, or gas? Are the fridge functions working, other than the control panel display? Sherry -
Norcold Refrigerator Digital Readout Shifted Up
SeaDawg replied to CedarForks's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Our original (2008) fridge was a norcold, and I reallyliked it.. We never had that issue, but got really good help from Norcold tech service when we did have a problem. Try calling tech service at norcold first. The number is in your manual. They may tell you to take it to an authorized dealer near you. You're under warranty. Any authorized dealer can help you. We like the smaller camping world near us. Sherry -
The rm2454 had been around aehile. At least two, possibly more versions. Dometic isn't good about manuals. You have tp look up the specific serial number for sort of specific info. I know, because we had a rm2454. Finding the right replacement board was a pain. I DON'T know about your fan, because we never had one, but I do have a fuzzy memory about fans scrolling through posts about our issues. Were it me, I'd disconnect it. If you think you need a fan, get a little muffin fan. When you get a good dometic, it's golden. A few have issues. I was one of those. Hence, the 12v compressor fridge now on board. To be fair, I have seen 20 year old Domestic fridges chugging along just fine. Camping world told us they had some issues about 4 years ago. Since they supply maybe 90 per cent of the rv market, I'm sure they have worked on it.

I am now the proud owner of a Legacy Elite!
SeaDawg replied to cmdmom286's topic in Introduce Yourself
In our Elite, when water gushes out the bottom, it means the tank is full. What does your monitor say? Looks like you had a great time! Keep on enjoying! Sherry -
Travelling with a fridge on gas, and turning it off before fueling up, probably has almost as many posts and debates on rv forums as " which tow vehicle" and "what replacement tires". Since we replaced our 3-way absorption fridge with a 12v compressor fridge last year, I don't have to worry about that question anymore. Sherry

Still means you need a paper or computer log...which is what we've always done. Boats, cars, trailers. Not so big deal. We keep a book in the side pocket of the truck. In there, we track mileage, maintenance, upgrades, and a log of all our camping adventures. It's fun to look back...

We are so happy for you. Wishing you many miles of smiles. We are on our 12th season, now. Wouldn't trade the memories for anything. Sherry

Many camogrounds frown on, or prohibit, washing your trailer in your campsite. Wastes water, can leave a mess, and neighbors complain... Best to take it to a do it yourself carwash. Make sure you have the height clearance in the stall--your Ollie is a lot taller than most vehicles. Good question. Ask away.

We also have a TST system, the 510, now about 9 or 10 years old. I just discovered a failed replacement sensor. I called TST, verified that it was still under the 3 year warranty. Jim in technical support faxed me an RMA form to inclde in my package. I will pay only one way shipping ($3.75), and receive a rebuilt sensor in a few days. I have been so pleased with TST customer service over the years. I wouldn't look at another brand. Sherry

John, I tried my experiment, private messaging between my two accounts ( user, and moderator). Both times the web notification worked (red dot on the bell), but in neither case did I get email notification. I did, curiously, get an automatic notication through email from Oliver that I had changed my account settings. I will edit the original post, split this off the topic, and ask for some clarification from admin. The only email notifications I'm getting are account changes, and if I follow a topic. Thanks for the help. Sherry
-
John, It looks like only the web notifications (bell) are working for you. I normally keep email notifications off, so I will test this with a pm from another user account I have, to myself. I turned the email notifications off years ago, because I am in the forum so often, anyway.. Is anyone else getting email notices on private messages? Or anything else? Obviously, I need to edit the above post if this is not working. And, try to get help to make email notifications work.

David S. brought this to our attention sime time ago. We ask people to use private messages, or pms, when sharing contact info (email addresses, phone numbers,et), to avoid that information being swept up by spammers, bots, and bad guys. Private messages are just that-- private. Only you, and the intended recipient can see them. But, some members are new to forums, and our private message system can be a multistep process. The simplest way to send a private message (pm) is to log in, click on the three horizontal bars top right ( dropdown menu button.) Click on the envelope. Click on compose new. Start typing the first few letters of the user's screen name, and when you see the correct name, start writing your email. Proofread, and hit send. Done. ( note: this is a much simpler process than our old system!) Alternatively, if the person you would like to pm has a recent post, click on his username anywhere it appears in bold... in a post, at the recent users at the bottom of the page, or even in the "thanked by" section at the bottom of a post. Clicking on the username will take you to the user profile, and you'll see an envelope. Clicking here will take you to the message box, where you can type your message, proofread, and hit send. I added a few screenshots in the next post below as visual aids. Sherry
