Mattress Alternative - Request for Measurements
Steve Morris replied to Steve Morris's topic in General Discussion
Maybe this helps clarify what I'm asking for. My overly complicated explanation above may have caused confusion (45 years in engineering makes it impossible for me to not be overcomplicated. š) Grab a large piece of cardboard, and make marks 9, 10, 11, and 12 inches back from a corner. Connect these marks with parallel lines. Cut off the corner formed by the 9" markings and fit it into the corner of the Oliver's twin bed area. The points where you cut probably interfere with the sides of the the cardboard laying along the sides of the Oliver. Cut back to the next pair of marks and try again. How's that fit? Probably by the time you get to the 12" pair of marks, it will fit fine, but leave a large gap in the corner. Somewhere between the 9" cut and the 12" cut was likely the best fit. That's what I'm after. I'd also like the dimensions of the twin bed tray, from the wall to the inside of the lip, and from the end (back wall of the trailer) to the face of the cabinet. Conventional wisdom has these as 30" and 75". Oliver's drawing shows 29" and 74.5" Thanks for any assistance offered. -
We just returned from The Original Mattress Factory store nearby, and have decided to have them make a pair of custom mattresses for us. We were going to order from KTT, but hesitant, as we've never slept on anything other than a coil spring mattress (except the thin foam one in our Hiker squaredrop trailer.) TOMF has foam RV mattresses that they offer. Instead, we are having the same exact mattress made that we currently sleep on at home. It is a modified version of their twin orthopedic extra firm mattress, with support cylinders along the edge for couch duty. They are 10" thick, so a bit more than the 8" KTT and 7" Southern mattresses. The only problem, is that they cannot create a curve on one corner to match the Oliver mattress. They can, however, create a 45° "chamfer" on one corner. All they need are dimensions for that angled portion. Now, I can simply do some math and calculate the straight line that connects the two ends of the mattresses 15" radius from the Oliver supplied dimensions. But I *think* I can cheat that a bit, and have a slightly smaller chamfer to fill in that gap. And here's where I'm asking for help. Could someone with a twin bed layout mock up a chamfered corner from cardboard for me? The Oliver drawing shows the mattress as 29" wide, 74.5" long, with a 15" radius on one corner. What I'm envisioning, is somewhere between line A and line B on the attached sketch. Option A leaves a big gap in the corner, and I think option B would interfere with the wall too much. I'm after wherever best fits between, shown indeterminately as line C. I'm thinking it can be closer to line B than shown, but can only determine that with a physical mock up. Also, are the mattresses really only 29" wide? The dimension I've seen most frequently are 30" X 75". I'd like to fill the fiberglass tray with as wide and long of a mattress that will fit, since I'm having a pair custom made. If the mattress is really 29" wide, then the dimension of the top question mark in the drawing is 14", and the lower is about 20 1/4" I'm guessing best fit will be somewhere closer to 18-19" For reference, the KTT mattresses are currently at $750 each, plus shipping. Shipping to me in October was $304 for two, but someone recently had a shipping quote to the midwest closer to $500. so, around $1900 for the pair. The Original Mattress Factory cost, including customization, will be $1018 for the pair. If anyone would be willing to mock this up and see how it fits, I'd be eternally grateful. And bring you your choice of beverage to the rally (within reason. No Pappy Van Winkle request.) š

That's the one. I just misremembered the color. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm probably mis-remembering, as I tried reading just about every post on this forum back in June when I joined. Wasn't the black trailer converted (poorly) to a truck camper for a while, and then sold and put back on its frame? I tried looking for photos, but was unsuccessful.

Isotherm Refrigerator not working off of shore power
Steve Morris replied to RustyMD's topic in General Discussion
I wish more RVs offered chest style compression fridge/freezers. Our 90 Liter National Luna, tested independently in extreme conditions (12 hours at 70°F, 7 hours at 90°F, and five hours at 110°F) uses 27Ah in fridge/fridge mode (both compartments set to 39°F) and 41Ah in fridge/freezer mode (39°F and 14°F). I can run it 48+ hours on the Bluetti EB70S (716 Whr) in the back of my black Land Cruiser in bright sun with no problem. I think the new compressor fridge in the 2023 Oliver is 130 liter? I'd rather have a chest type either built into a countertop or under a dinette seat. That way, not all the cold air falls out every time the door is open. The same reason we have a chest freezer at home. -
I asked when we paid our 50% the first of November. Thatās when she estimated it would be 1361. She said they are assigned before building starts. š¤·āāļø Iām one for four on getting replies to emails since August, so Iāll just call if I need something.

Just filled up at Sheetz here west of Cleveland at $2.74/gallon

Great news! When did you order, and when is your delivery date? We ordered August 12, and our delivery will be March 29. We donāt have a VIN or hull number yet, but Anita estimated in October weād be 1361. Looks like itāll be higher based on your information. Edit: Nevermind. I see in your sig when you ordered. About ten weeks after us. Weird you already have your VIN and hull number.

Ha! No, I don't need to add to the pile of unused stuff I already have. š There's a place on the other side of Cleveland that scans videos, slides, movies, and photos, and pust them on DVD or thumb drives. At some point, I want to do that, but it's not inexpensive. Drug stores, Wal-Mart, Costco, etc. do the same for less, but with horrible results from what what I've read.

I was hesitant, as everyone has lots of grandkid photos. Somewhere we have slides from when our two daughters were little. And under a bed I have a tub with all the polaroids and 8mm movies from when I was little, plus some color slides from when Dad was a toddler in the early '30s. The two grandkids are our oldest daughter's, and we're on a shared Apple Photos gallery with them. Apple limits shared galleries to 5000 images, and they're on their third one in just four years! 𤪠I hope there is some way to see them 90 years from now like I can still see my Dad's. (or my photos and tintypes of my great-great grandparents from the 1800s for that matter) As it is now, we can't even watch Deb's an my wedding video from 1981, because it was on Betamax...

Even though we don't have our Oliver yet, I'll play. First photo of the year in my photo library. Our grandkids One of three gatherings with the Ohio chapter of Tearjerkers Our current setup Having a winery near the campground was nice! Deb is an Ambassador, so she got an opportunity to buy bottles from "her" barrel, as well as dip them in wax. It was a fun trip A couple days later, we were in Tennessee! Late summer camping with my brothers, their spouses, and our daughter and her fiance Mid-October we lost my mother at age 91. What a full and wonderful life. And yes, that's me. A few days later, we gained a son-in-law. And, just a couple days ago, a fitting bookmark to the first photo. I promise, next year's compilation will have some Oliver photos!

Youāre practically in my backyard. Weāre 20 miles west of Cleveland, just south of I-90. Regular is $2.91 down the road at Sheetz. $2.81 at Pilot using their free rewards card. ($0.10 off per gallon)

I talked to Mike Sharp today. Apparently thereās a removable wall in the attic area. Behind there, you only need to drill though the outer hull to get wires through from the antenna. Iāll have to add a waterproof bulkhead fitting to bring the wire bundle through, and figure where to mount the antenna. One important note that I found out on the price in the link I listed before. That 25% off $1080 price is the 5% off sale plus 10% off for Black Friday. PLUS 10% off for belonging to their highest tier members. The non-member sale price is $1224.66 Iām likely going to do their lower membership option at $99 which drops the price $72 from the non-member price, and has what looks like good information and discounts behind their pay wall. Plus access to the Mobile Internet Resource Centerās member only library. I wonāt get a data plan until March when I get our trailer. I hope that helps!

What a great idea! If we had a truck with a cap, that sounds like a good plan. But I donāt think Iāll be doing that on the Land Cruiser. Iād need the magnetic mount which sticks up pretty high, and some way to get all those cables inside. I plan to add an Ethernet switch and hard wire the router to an Apple TV, Echo Dot, and laptop.

Black Friday/Holiday Sale Thread - Where'd it go?
Steve Morris replied to Steve Morris's topic in General Discussion
I was just perusing that sale from my email. Our new Oliver will come with a 30A shore power cord (25' or 50'?) And I probably should pick up an additional extension. Do I need just a regular 30A plug, or a locking 30A plug? Thanks! -
Black Friday/Holiday Sale Thread - Where'd it go?
Steve Morris replied to Steve Morris's topic in General Discussion
Not specifically listed as Black Friday sale, but Amazon has a 20% off coupon on the Grohe thermostatic shower valve that some folks have installed. That's $58 off of the $291 Amazon price. I haven't compared this to elsewhere, because I'm not at a point where I know for sure I'll be adding an alternate shower valve. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ROB2O0C/?coliid=I3IYPGNV73LDXJ&colid=R9JV77V82AV9&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it -

Not listed as a Black Friday deal, but Amazon has an $85 off coupon for the TST 507 Tire Monitor System w/6 caps. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078P5GG76/?coliid=I2PNNC7BYUVKX4&colid=R9JV77V82AV9&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it -
No, what you wrote was very clear. My disappointment is that they'd identified a problem installing windows, implemented a new protocol on how to install the windows, and yet the windows in your trailer were not installed per those new protocols. Management and QC can solve any problem, but that doesn't always help if the guy putting the parts together doesn't follow explicit instructions.

Other than the terrestrial TV antenna, we did not order any wifi, satellite, or cellular boosters. All of this technology is changing so rapidly, that we figured anything we order now will be obsolete in a couple of years. And, the Oliver options seem pretty expensive. So, we plan to do our own. Figuring out the antenna, cellular router, data plan, etc. is discussed ad nauseam across YouTube, so I don't need any help there. What I do need to find, is where Oliver routes the cables that penetrate the hull. Is there a "tube" bonded between the inner and outer hull with a waterproof connector? Or a single hole with a typical RV waterproof connector epoxied to the hull in an area where the inner hull is cut away? I know that there are AC and DC available in the cabinet above the TV. Is there anything in the front closet for either AC or DC power? Thanks for any input, Steve
