  1. Thanks Max Burner - Not having any acquaintance with rust I think we're going to be conservative and look elsewhere. Too bad - very nice seller - would have loved to take it off her hands.
  2. Thanks! I don't mind getting up close and personal with a trailer and scraping that rust off - but I think I would feel better with something else. I actually think she's done a good job with maintenance otherwise but probably just missed this.

  4. Thanks, John for your insights. Your old trailer looks a heck of a lot different. Interesting you should mention the long beaches, the tides and the winds. For the past year and a half or so the trailer has been stored outside about 1/2 mile from a very, very big beach in Washington. Maybe that's when the rust really got going.
  5. That's what I see on the overland trailers. I was actually shocked to see the little shocks on the Oliver. I wonder if it could be done on the Olvier, how much it would be, if there would be any negatives.
  6. As I remember the aluminum frame looks fine. It does have the EZ flex suspension. I will check on the zerk lubrication. The owner did have it to Oliver for maintenance a couple of times. It's been a couple of years but she said no one said anything about the rust. Then again, it's been at the beach since then. I will try to find out if the zerks have been lubed and how often. I think they should be lubed fairly frequently. It has about 20K on it. Did not try to scrape the rust off - I guess that's next. Thanks!
  7. I'm looking at a 2017 Oliver to possibly buy. It's lived its life in the Pacific Northwest and in the last year and a half in a beach town - and it shows! I don't know how damaging it is - I've never been around rust before - I don't know if its cosmetic or there's a real problem. (I assume the shocks need replacing). Lots of rust on the leaf springs, shocks, axle, inside the tire, and I guess the shackles. If I do get this trailer it will probably mostly live in the southwest. live in the
  8. Is this it? https://store.lci1.com/center-point-air-ride-suspension-system-center-point
  9. Checking to see if anyone has successfully done this retrofit. Love to be able to get this done. ๐Ÿ™‚
  10. I would love to know if different shocks would make the Olvier a bit more offroad worthy.
  11. Ray's been driving Airstream's all over the west - and is now out there in an Oliver. He feels its a fine boon-docking trailer. I don't see any reason - given a good tow vehicle with 4wd - why you can't get an Oliver into many backcountry places. Clearance is fine and the suspension - while not up to trailers engineered for off roading - seems to be strong. I should find out pretty soon actually ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. I've been on the road by myself for ten years. Yes to heavy duty. Diesels are fine but are much more expensive, less reliable overall (with emissions in the US), and mechanics are harder to find. A big gasser will do fine. (These are not heavy trailers). Yes, to lots of storage in your tow vehicle!
  13. I'm on the West Coast - glad to see service centers out here.
  14. Another 100Ker! Very good to hear - thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
  15. 100 K miles and still satisfied - can't get a better recommendation than that. Thanks!
  16. Thanks so much for relaying your experience. What I was hoping to hear was that the guts of it hold up well and the stuff not made by Oliver may break from time to time. I think if we get the older one waxing and maintaining the outside is the first thing we will do - if it needs it. I know the owner has taken it in to Oliver's facility every now and then to get it serviced.
  17. We're looking at 2 trailers - one is well taken care but is a couple of years older (2017) and has been well used - lived in for quite a while. The other is newer (2019) but has hardly been used at all and is much more expensive. My question is how much does age and wear and tear matter? There's the body of the trailer - the suspension - the plumbing - the wiring - the solar - and then there's the appliances which I assume might break down earlier - and cause less to fix as well. I could certainly see having to repair appliances - problems with the body and suspension would, I think (but don't know), be another matter. I would be full timing in the Oliver for a couple of years as well probably. Basically, how well do Olivers do over time?
  18. The Chevy Express/GMC Savana is fine but I suggest getting the 6.6L instead of the 4.3 I think it is V-6. I have the older 4.8L which has similar specs and while it does fine fully loaded by itself, going up hills with a 6000 lb trailer behind it would be a stretch. I checked out the other vans some time ago and the only one I would be comfortable with is the Chevy/GMC...dated but reliable, a good driver, and lots of payload and towing.
