I was somewhat saddened it wasn't 1492, but I can now take comfort in the English victory. Oh, wait, I do like France. We did take the factory tour. I'd say it was the final nudge to go with Oliver. Honestly, and I looked hard and really studied RVs, I can't say anyone comes close to Oliver in many respects.

Hey folks. Ya'll sound like seasoned RVers. What places in Texas have you liked best? I regret never going to Big Bend, and hope to remedy that.

We have our hull number. It is 1423. We pick up our Ollie next Wednesday, August 9. It is about to get real!

I will report in when I know enough about them. I have to think that rocks flying back is also a factor of travel speed. I can't see myself going very fast (I wonder what is considered very fast, 35, 45 mph?) pulling my Ollie. Thinking about that. They do something here I hate. On some tertiary roads they put pea gravel on top of road tar to resurface the road. It is a real boom for windshield repair businesses.

I just ordered these. Made in North Dakota https://shop.agricover.com/product/rockstarcommercialtowflap

Thanks - That tip on BayTec was exactly what I was looking to learn.

Do you add anything to your fresh water tank when you fill the tank to keep the water good for drinking? Thanks

I am interested to see how this comes out. I have to assume any type of trailer construction is going to suffer in a hail storm with a certain size hail stone.

GM 1500 Truck w/3.0L Diesel - follow-up @32k miles
HDRider replied to tallmandan's topic in Towing an Oliver
I thought some might like reading this https://chevytrucks.org/common-3-0l-duramax-problems/ My readings tell me it is a good engine/transmission combo in a good truck. The stringent emission regulations stress the heck out of a diesel. -
Smokies are great. Avoid Dolly World, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Nashville is very nice. Tour the Jack Daniel place in Lynchburg. Do the Pea Body in Memphis. It has some wonderful restaurants. It has ducks.

Not looking to start an AS v. Oliver fight, if I was at all impressed with an AS I would have bought one. We had come down to AS, Type X and Oliver. The quality difference of the Oliver was a large margin. I suspect Oliver would do a rock guard right, matching their overall build quality. It actually does have to be a separate piece. I am no vehicle engineer, but the rough surface on the under panel of my truck is pretty tough, and you hardly notice it. It is a textured surface shot with the body color and clear coat.

Notice the rock guard on the front of this silly aluminum trailer. I'd like to see something like that on the beautiful Oliver. It needs to be replaceable, repaintable, or so durable that it never shows wear. It also has to be aesthetically pleasing so it does not detract from the simple beauty of the Oliver. I am guessing something like this needs to be put on before the two sets of clam shells are put in place.

Do you have a website?

Beautiful pictures. I used to fish the NC/TN line and drove some beautiful roads, and especially beautiful during the Rhododendron bloom

I love following you on this trip @Galway Girl

@DunnYetTell us about the truck you ordered. A four door straight six Maverick was my college car too. It was as basic as a car could be, and I could work on it. It lasted on into my first year of work. It had no A/C and the hour long summer commute was too much for me in the Houston heat. It was a good car.

Good job.

I sort of went through the same exercise as you, but only in my mind. I have been studying RVing for almost three years now. Oliver started our EII last Tuesday. Delivery is scheduled for August 9. You made a smart choice! ๐๐๐ Happy RVing and stay connected to us here.

The OE II has tires rated for 2040 (8,160 for four tires) each at 65 PSI. The trailer is 5,000 dry. Loaded maybe you get up over 6,000 pounds. Max is 7,000, right? At 7,000 (85% tire load capacity) pounds would be 55 PSI (85% of 65 PSI). 6,000 would be 50 PSI. We are saying the same thing. I take my old Jeep in for service and the guy airs my tires up to 80 PSI when my Jeep only weighs 3,000 pounds. Rough ride!
