Chicken Posted November 12 Posted November 12 What is this weird sound? Mostly during the night, I hear a sound that is exactly like - or pretty similar to - the sound of the awning retracting. The awning is already retracted and the main switch near the door is off. 🫣 It is not the fresh water pump which is a loud disquieting rumble. It also has been heard when we are connected to City Water and the Fresh water pump is off. It is not the fan or the air conditioner. It is not the heater. It is not the refrigerator. We set the hot water to Comfort when we are going to use it and back to Eco the rest of the time. And it is definitely not that fan inverter sound that has to do with the batteries. Out of nowhere a sound like the awning retracting. We did have a faulty switch replacement issue that was causing the stabilizer on the porch side to malfunction. But that is fixed. We are now stabilized. We can extend and retract quite nicely. We are New England people - so late in the Fall the heat is on. What is that weirdo noise? Can a retracted shut off awning make a noise? Hope your Holidays are Peaceful, Catherine Hull #1433

Chicken Posted November 12 Author Posted November 12 Hi Bill, We are taking the Ollie to an authorized RV dealer for its first yearly inspection in a few weeks. I’ll mention it. My husband contacted Oliver and RV dealer about the switch for the malfunctioning stabilizer. Oliver sent us a switch replacement and he installed it. He was not concerned about the weird sound - but could not identify it. We are not getting any error codes. No smells. No alarms. I suspect it might be the AquaGo water heater? It really does sound like the awning retracting. It’s a pretty sophisticated little unit and for the most part it does what we expect it to. Catherine
Frank C Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) You have the Truma AquaGo hot water system and in the normal COMFORT operating mode it has an internal circulating pump and will turn on fairly frequently, along with the burner, to maintain some ready hot water, and when it does turn on, it makes a noticeable sound, especially if you are on the bed right above it. Used to drive me crazy at night. The solution is to put the Truma on ECO mode. The initial water temp will be lower in ECO mode (see below) but it wont turn on the recirculating pump and burner as often. It also will save propane. Just have to wait a little longer for hot water when you need it. And we don’t have our Oliver trailer anymore, but we do miss it, and I still check in here now and then to see what’s new. Chicken Posted November 12 Author Posted November 12 Ohhhh I think you got it Frank. It is from that side over the pump. That makes sense that it’s circulating water. I am switching it from Eco to Comfort mode depending on usage. I bet I left it on Comfort. It’s pretty jarring when you don’t know what it is. Thanks a bunch. The forum has been pretty helpful with stuff. Catherine 2
Steve Morris Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Hi Catherine, Not related to your sound, but you can save propane by turning the Truma water heater off until you need it. We only have ours on first thing in the morning for bathroom use, and in the evening if we need a shower. And then whenever we wash dishes, which might only be once a day. 1 8 ----- Steve - Northern Ohio, USA Wandering around on occasion, always lost. 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser - 2023 Oliver Elite II Twin Hull #1360 “Curiosity” Facebook - Instagram Camped in Curiosity = Green —— Visited with Curiosity = Gray
Ronbrink Posted November 13 Posted November 13 Had the same experience, but soon realized the Truma AquaGo to be the culprit, as @Frank C explained. I have since been turning off the AquaGo, as @Steve Morris suggests and reasons given. However, because I only turn the unit on when needed and not concerned with maintaining constant hot water, I find ECO mode better suited to my needs. That said, my shower handle has a trickle feature, which keeps the burner engaged when taking a Navy shower. 1 1 2020 OLEll, Twin, 579: No installed solar, Renogy 40A DC-DC charger, 460Ah LFP battery bank/Victron SmartShunt, auxiliary Cerbo-S GX/Victron 30A Blue Smart IP22 Charger combo, Hughes Autoformer, dual Lagun tables, extended dinette table and pantry landing, tongue-mounted hoist, Beech Lane refrigerator Ventilation/Evaporate Coil fans, Dreiha Atmos 4.4 A/C upgrade. 2019 GMC Savana 2500 Cargo Work Van: Explorer Limited SE, Low-Top 7 Passenger van conversion, 6.0L V8 Vortec, 6-Speed Automatic, RWD; Air-Lift LoadLifter air suspension/WirelessAir compressor; Buyers Products cargo containment boxes/DC Cargo securement system; pending transfer of DC-DC cable run and Mechman 320A high output alternator from former TV.
Patriot Posted November 13 Posted November 13 (edited) @Catherine The only time we left our Truma on all night was on our 48 day recent western trip. The temps while camped for a week inside Yellowstone NP dropped below freezing at for 3 nights. As a result it will run periodically and yes you will hear a slight 10 second Truma hum. It sure is nice having on demand hot water within about 8-10 seconds. Typically we just turn it off after use to conserve a little propano! On a side note, you will really like how easy it is to clean/decalcify and winterize your Truma. Welcome to the forum! Chicken Posted November 13 Author Posted November 13 Hi Patriot and all the other helpful people, We get some pretty cold nights (and days) in the East! We like to spend time near the beaches in November. And up in the Mountains. So the ECO will be on at night. I don’t like to run the FRESH water waiting for it to heat for dishes and stuff so I switch it to COMFORT. It’s good to know in the milder weather we can turn it off. We are one year in to the Oliver and the Camping adventure and sad to see the season end. We have not gone off grid yet but are practicing up at the State reservations that only supply electricity. Thanks for the help, advice and good ideas. Catherine 3
