Norcold refrigerator (model 412) not working

Recommended Posts

Traveled down a very rough road today in Alaska.   Arrived at camp to discover the Norcold 412 refrigerator was dead.  Circuit breaker and fuse fine.   Removed inside panel under drawers and determined 120V power plugged securely in.   Checked to ensure that there was power going to 120V box, and it was.  Only other thing I can think to do is get a multimeter and check power at back of fridge and remove the plastic cover in this same location to scout for any in-line fuses.   Any suggestions on what to do?

@Avalo, are you running fridge on gas, DC, or 110? No lights anywhere on fridge? Or, do you have an error code?

Do you know for sure that you gave propane, if running fridge on propane? (As in, does the cooktop light?)

Are you camped with hookups, or running on battery? What batteries?

Do other dc systems (lights, etc. ,) work? Other 110 systems,  if on hookups?

What is your battery level? Running fridge on propane, if your battery level is too low, the fridge will shut down.

I know I'm asking a bunch of questions at once, but it may help others more familiar with your fridge model.

Checking for power in at back of the fridge is a good place to start. If you don't have 12v in, your fridge won't work, obviously.

Good luck. It's really tough to have problems in the hinterlands.  Where are you in Alaska?

I believe the Norcold requires 12v DC for the control board, even to run on 120v AC. As @SeaDawg was alluding, this could be a 12v power issue, especially if you have no lights on the display. If your batteries are charged look for a loose wire or 12v fuse.

@Hull 812,,I would open a service ticket, and ask for advice.

What troubleshooting have you done to lead you to the eyebrow board?

What actually happens when you try to start your Norcold? Does it run on 110, but not gas? Neither? Battery level? Are you plugged into 110, or boondocking, running on gas?

"Not working" doesn't really help us offer advice, though I know it's frustrating.  We need a little more info, to offer even a little bit of advice.

Have you checked the pigtail, if running on 110, to make sure it has not worked loose,?

What shows on your display if anything? Any error code?

Photos would definitely help.

The display board is totally black. The fuses in the rear are good. The 20 amp dc fuse is good. There is 12v dc going to the control panel.
Earlier this summer the control board was acting up. The mode would change when we changed temp. Had it checked at local RV service, found nothing out of the ordinary. The electrical connections were sprayed with contact cleaner. The controls worked for one trip. Now it doesn’t turn on.

Open a service ticket. Oliver Service is very helpful with these kinds of issues.
