John, people don't buy Jeeps to pull trailers of any size larger them say the smaller utility size trailers, or like a Casita, Popup, or something in that size group.   No, I'm not going to buy a Jeep to pull the Elite II, but Yes I'm going to buy another Jeep Wrangler for my TOY.

Yet, in a previous post you stated, “I think this setup would have very little problem handling an Elite II.”

  2. I'm curious about your cargo carrying capacity. Your 2019 Q7 has a maximum cargo carrying capacity of 1367 pounds. Out of that must come the weight of everything that was not installed at the factory.

Tongue Weight 600-700 pounds and I wouldn't be surprised at that weight.

Two averaged size adults (statistically) 340 pounds.

That only leaves you around 350 pounds for all your other stuff. Pets, camping gear, chairs, tables, chocks, blocks, tools, outside grill, clam, ground rug, box of tissues, phone chargers and on and on... My toolbox alone would eat almost all that weight.

Were it me, I'd get a more capable tow vehicle. The towing capacity is about the least useful statistic you can know about your vehicle. You are living on the edge.

    See last section…

    Spray chrome

PChrome is a spray on chrome for plastic that provides the same terrific look and strength of traditional chrome plating. It can be applied in your garage or in your shop, and it has the same high-gleam polish and feel that people expect from chrome. Highly versatile, it can be used for a part of any size, and it bonds well to almost anything imaginable. It comes in several different popular shades, including blue, red, gold and silver. Of the various options for transforming plastic into chrome, spray chrome is probably the best one. Because of its ability to be applied on site, it allows you to save time. It also is affordable, costing only around 25 percent of the cost of traditional chrome plating.

While you won’t really be changing plastic into chrome, you can change the cheap look of plastic parts and give them a high-end chrome finish. In order to choose the best spray chrome kit for your particular project, you’ll want to purchase one that is appropriate for your needs. If you are a do-it-yourself enthusiast, the 25 and the 50 spray chrome kits from PChrome are meant for you. If you are a shop owner, you’ll likely want to purchase a larger kit that can be used to restore multiple cars. Go ahead and order the kit that is right for you and your needs today on our website.

I am trying to decide whether to keep our Oliver that we haven’t had time to use. If we keep it we must get the Truma AC. The 640ah lithium will only last 4.5 hours in the hot climates which means a generator is a must.

Why spend the big bucks for Lithium when the Lithium mining in the USA is just around the corner.

    What am I missing?

I’m just as confused as you seem to be?

  5. You think it's hard with the regular beds, try it with the raised beds. Back in 2015 while sitting out in the AZ desert on my first long boondocking trip, I didn't think of a deck plate, still too much trouble, but of installing motorized valves. All the valves move in concert, flip a switch one way--Boondocking Aux Fill, Flip it back--Normal operation. Don't leave home without it.

These are the best deal I found and it took me a couple of years to find them. They are solid stainless steel. No outer sheath.  Seat is perfect and they look great. $3.67 each.

ScubaRx, are these lug nuts correct for a 2022 LE II? Or does it not matter which model and/or year? Thanks.

They should be an exact fit.

  7. Here is a link to my project to add storage behind the propane tanks. I had to move my tanks forward somewhat to get as much room as possible. This has been made harder now with their mounting of a junction box in front of the tanks. I did this sometime in mid 2016. After seeing this post apparently there were requests made to Oliver and they asked my permission to copy what I had done. I believe this was done to a few trailers, possibly John Davies' trailer

We never use our propane, we are always on shore power or solar so we are thinking about removing the tanks and modifying a box to add inside where the tanks go to use as storage.
We would still keep it so that the tanks could go back in, but it’s really just wasted space for us.
Has anybody removed their tanks and camp without them?
Is there anything we should be aware of if we remove the tanks?

I would not worry about it. Just remove the tanks and the all-thread rod and if your floor is not already covered, you will have to build a floor and depending on what you plan to carry in that area, you will have to decide if you want the floor to be solid and sealed. If that is not necessary to your needs, I would suggest using expanded wire. if your circumstances become dire enough and you find yourself in a situation where you need propane, you can just go buy a 20 pound tank at one of the exchange stations. That way you don’t have to carry it around if you don’t need it. It does sound like you haven’t needed propane in several years so the chances of a future need should the relatively slim. You can also remove the regulator for the tanks and just cap the line. This would make it easy to return to OEM status for a future owner.

#7 posted a photo on one of the Facebook groups in reply to JellyBean's photo. It is owned by Tony Hodgson

So this trailer would qualify as currently the one with the lowest Hull Number still on the road. It's delivery date was 01-07-2008 and it was sold for just under $30K. Tony Hodgson is not the first owner.

Hi John, I am so sorry for the miscommunication.  I have great respect for your expertise, and that of the other wonderful folks on this forum who have been so helpful to us.

The batteries we recently bought are AGMs….. Trojan T105 AGMs.  We used these batteries for 7 years with good luck, before our problems started.  They were the original equipment when we bought our Ollie.

Trojan T105’s are not AGM’s. They are flooded lead acid that must be meticulously maintained (checking specific gravity, adding water, if needed) for you to get the maximum life out of them. AGM’s, on the other hand, are still flooded lead acid, but you are unable to add water to them, as they are sealed, and the acid is absorbed in a glass mat. AGM’s. require much less maintenance and we got seven years out of our first set before changing to three Battle Born Lithium‘s. AGM’s can still vent hydrogen gas if they are overcharged. The biggest downside to this is you can’t replace the liquid that is boiled off.

I have a few questions re wheel bearings on our Elite 2:

If the bearings are appropriately maintained, how long can they be expected to last?

if the bearings are in for service anyway, is it worthwhile to replace the original bearings with Timken?

The bearings on our trailer now are original to the trailer and are whatever brand Oliver uses. They have held up fine so far, and mechanics who have looked at them have indicated that they are decent quality.

    Thanks in advance.
    David

With appropriate maintenance, I would expect the bearings to last decades. Your original bearings are of what came in the axles supplied by Dexter to Oliver. To the best of my knowledge, Oliver doesn’t actually have a dog in that race.
