  1. Hi Sacsun! In southern Ca and on central coast of California in October, my Alltel was working better than Chucks AT&T, both phone and aircard for laptop. Geri
  2. How about showing us some interior shots! ???? I don't wanna see wires and plumbing, that's guy stuff! Show me the finished cabinets and the bed and some nice upholstrey please! Bigger bathroom? Bigger closets? I WANNA SEE !!!!
  3. Ciara, I have used Alltel for 6 years now! In that 6 years I have always had good reception no matter where I traveled. I have found 3 dead zones in all 6 years and they were located in heavily wooded mountain type terrain, and one was down in a hollow (deep, narrow valley) in Kentucky. I also use the Alltel air card on my laptop, In the 3 years I have had it and the numerous states I have traveled in the past 2 years, I have always been able to get online and have more than acceptable service! My sweetie Chuck has AT&T. Totally different story! He thought dead zones were common and all over the place until we started traveling together, I always had at least 2 bars when he had none. He ended up using my cell phone and air card more than his own! He has seen the light first hand and his AT&T contract is up in Feb so he will be switching over to Alltel at that time. Unfortunately, he still has another year contract to go on his air card so I guess we will be sharing mine a bit longer. I'm serious when I say that I have seen others walking outside for reception and not getting it while I had 3 or 4 bars and could easily call from the inside. I wholeheartedly endorse Alltel as being the best phone cell service around! Also, when you call customer service, you get someone who speaks English clearly ! They are always polite and very helpful! I hope this helped without sounding too much like an Alltel commercial!! Geri
  4. We made it to Anastasia Island State Park on Monday! The Whaley's (Meanderthal) made it in about an hour later! This is a beautiful campground and St. Augustine is amazing! We have had 3 night's in the 20's here (Is this really Florida?) and the Oliver has been snug and warm. Here is a hint, we use a small space heater when we have FHU. But we worried about the dogs knocking it over if we left it on floor level. Placing it on the table kept it from getting knocked over, but the bottom half of the Oliver got a bit frosty, ya know? So Chuck came up with the idea of plugging it in under the closet, placing the heater in the bathroom on the floor and using a bungee cord from the door to the cabinets to hold the bathroom door open. PERFECT Now the Oliver is warm from top to bottom, the dogs can't knock it over and the bathroom is nice and warm all night. The Whaleys left this morning, headed back to VA. Chuck and I leave tomorrow morning headed back to Apalachicola. We have been on the road since a week before Christmas and we have had a great time. I will post photo's later of all the parks and all the Olivers! I have to get home and downsize them all for this website. Keep warm ya'll!
  5. Chuck and I are really excited about this opportunity to travel and work as we go. We need to mention http://www.workampers.com in case anyone else out there is interested in this wonderful program. Although we won't be receiving any pay for our work, we will be getting our campsite with fhu, laundry and lots of hot springs soaks in exchange for 6 hours per day, 3 days on, 3 days off of work! Then we will have 3 days per week to explore the area around Truth or Consequences NM and watch the progress of the new Spaceport being built there. You are all welcome to come visit us, we will be there from May 1st to end of July, we have a 3 month commitment there. There is no campground at Riverbend, except for the workampers. However I am sure they have campgrounds in the area but the rooms at Riverbend are certainly affordable if you decide on that option. If you decide on camping elsewhere and just want to come in for a soak, all prices are listed on the link here >>>> http://www.riverbendhotsprings.com/ Riverbend is not that far from Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands National Park and a good days drive to the Three River area where all the rock petroglyphs are found. Even a side trip to Roswell NM with all the UFO interests there! There is a lot to see and enjoy while in NM! Hopefully we will get to see some of you on our journey!
  6. http://phunnyfarm.blogspot.com/ Chuck and I have a favorite new campground!
  7. Glad ya'll were parked when it snowed, Chuck n I hit snow/slush through Albecurque, NM, no fun for him that was driving! Looking forward to your pix...the only way to see snow!
  8. Still in Calif 'til 29th!!! Too far away!! Keep us posted please! the Phunny Pharm at Lake Casitas, CA
  9. Hi Herm, Welcome to the Oliver family! Your Oliver looks great! I just hope you enjoy your Oliver as much as Chuck and I enjoy ours. Right now we are in CA at Oceano Dunes RV Park enjoying miles and miles of beautiful sand dunes, the biggest I have ever seen! Chuck and I live in Apalachicola, FL ( Florida panhandle area) a beautiful fishing village. We are often called "The Forgotten Coast" because even though we have some of Florida's most beautiful beaches we are very rural. No large condo's, only one traffic light in the whole county, wonderful mom and pop local businesses and the best restaurants compared anywhere else in FL..... especially seafood restaurants! So if you end up in this part of Florida, please contact us! And no! I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce! I just truly love where I live! Just a mention, if you are a Walmart fan, or a McDonalds lover.......... you will have to drive 60 miles to the nearest Walmart, we don't have either one of those either! We often meet with Sherry and Paul in central FL, so let us know when you are headed south! http://phunnyfarm.blogspot.com/
  10. WOW! Leave it to the hillbilly from Arkansas to come up with such a great idea! I love it! Now if, as you said, the designer can come up with the great egg shape of the Oliver........ looks like you got a winner Mountainborn! Thanks for thinking of it! Oh and hey... we got our metal dectector yesterday! Geri
  11. I have to reccommend Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murphreesboro Arkansas! for $42 for 3 nights. we got water, electric with dumpstation when we leave. It's a beautiful campground, nicely spaced, shaded, picnic table with lantern hook, fire ring with grill and very clean restrooms and showers equipped for handicapped. http://www.CraterOfDiamondsStatePark is 8th largest diamond mine world and lt is the only one where for $6.50 you get a full day of digging and get to keep any of the diamonds you find. There were 3 found yesterday. Chuck and I weren't the lucky ones, but maybe today. There have been some real whoppers found here too. I promise to send photos later, you'll just have to take our word for it, this place is fun and worth a visit! Also, after a hard day of digging, Chuck and I went searching for good food in Murpreesboro and found it at Rico Habaneros, a Mexican Restaurant that was one of the best I have eaten at in a long time. They just opened up last Saturday, so it's new here. You will find it on 27 north of the courthouse about a mile on a sharp curve. 100 East 13th street! About 5 miles from the campsite. Downtown Murphreesboro looks interesting too with several rock and gem shops, antiques shops and just a variety all around the old courthouse down town. We may go explore that later on today! Life is a road worth traveling! Geri and Chuck
  12. Sherry and Paul are also known as Seadawg. They also want to be included in Thursday nights dinner. Thanks Herschel! We are here now and just met the Charlie Smith's from Grand Prairie TX. Geri
  13. I hope we are registered for Thursday night. Chuck Hajek and Geri Moore ???? Mr. Oliver's first name is Jim. He is a very nice man as is everyone we have met at the Oliver factory. We will see you on Wed. afternoon. Geri
  14. Howdy! There will be 4 Oliver's at the rally! Seadawg (Sherry and Paul) decided today to join us! Mountainborn and Butcherknife, ScubaRX and Tali, and Chuck and I ! You can tour all 4 because all 4 are going to be different. Oliver gives you so many choices and options, no 2 are going to be alike! Looking forward to meeting ya'll, this is my first rally! Geri
  15. GOOD CAMPGROUND REPORT! About 13 miles off I-40 exit 242 just west of Memphis TN and West Memphis Arkansas is Village Creek State Park! In fact, as soon as you find an Arkansas Welcome Station, pull in and get the free Arkansas State Parks Guide! A good investment at half the price! Or you can visit http://www.ArkansasStateParks.com ! Every state park I have visited in Arkansas has been above and beyond what I expected! Our site is right on the lake, there are woods all around us, but none directly overhead. The campsites are very large with picnic tables, grills, lantern hooks and the feel of a backyard patio! The rates are $27 per night with full hook-ups, restrooms and showers close by. I'll give a report on those later when I add a few photos of this place! Chuck and I will be here a few days before moving on to Woolly Hollow State Park which is near Conroy Arkansas, 1/2 way between here and our destination of the Fiberglass Travel Trailer Rally near Fort Smith, Arkansas! VILLAGE CREEK STATE PARK is a 5 star with us! Geri PS: The restrooms and showers are clean and fully set up for a person in a wheelchair. Photos will have to be after we get home as I have no way to edit photos to a smaller size on this new laptop!
  16. BAD CAMPGROUND ALERT ! Jackson RV Park, Jackson, TN ! You pay $22 per night for a parking lot! Advertised as 12 "pull thrus" and full hook ups. OK, they are full hook-ups and having the a/c was nice. But the sites were very narrow, right off the interstate so it was very noisy. There was a "laundromat" there, 3 washers and 2 dryers all very old and laundry room was filthy. We chose it from Woodall's directory when we left the Oliver factory, and we were just too tired at that stage to move on to another campground. So beware this campground, I would have preferred the peace and quiet of a Walmart parking lot to the constant roar of 18-wheelers at this one! Geri
  17. Hi all! Just a note to let ya'll know Chuck and I arrived safe and sound in Hoenwald on Monday! Just wanted to share the awesome experience of seeing several conveys of army/national guardsmen and several truckloads of huge generators headed south to help those folks in the path of Hurricane Gustav! Tractor trailers owned by electric companies also with huge generators and all kinds of huge equipment headed south. I know they will be welcomed! We are here at the Goodenough Inn and who shows up but Pete and Oscar! what a fun surprise! They will be here tonight too! We all went to The Junkyard to meet Robert for lunch and we find out that Paul and Sherry will be pulling in tomorrow! WOW! Gonna be like Old Home Week around here! Looking forward to seeing them again. Geri
  18. Chuck and I are headed to the Oliver Factory and then on to Arkansas for the fiberglass rally! We took my Casita up to Tallahassee today, to hopefully find safe harbor if any storms strike our Gulf shores while we are gone. We live 1/2 block from the Gulf of Mexico... far too close during a storm, the rest of the time, the livin' is easy! Geri
  19. Hey Pete! Welcome to "Sunny" Florida........ what were you thinking coming during hurricane season ? LOL! Yeah Sherry, we are fine......... we got about 3"of rain and several strong wind gusts, that's about it. Tallahassee got the worst of it. If you ever get this way again Pete, we are about an hour south of I-10 ...... Look on the map for Apalachicola, and you will see how close you were to us! Chuck and I camped at that same campground, Econfina River Resort...or whatever. Very nice campground right on the Ecofina River right near where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. Great kyak and canoe trails. Sorry we didn't get to meet. Maybe next time! Have a good journey and I hope you take along good memories of Florida! Geri
  20. Hope I get to meet you and Butcherknife at the Fiberglass Rally in Fort Smith Arkansas in about 3 weeks! Geri
  21. Buffalo Bob, I understand that you are overloaded with work, and that we can be problem children at time with all our questions, why this? and why that? and how come? can get time consuming at your end to locate all the right answers and then word them in a manner that won't be misconstrued. But you are such a vital part of our forum! We have all come to value our ties to you and you are sort of like the cord that keeps us connected to the factory ! I do agree that someone should come on board to help you answer these technical questions..... most of the posts are valid inquiries, some are pointless inquiries and it takes time to respond to the valid posts while not offending the pointless posts. You have done a great job. I do hope you re-think this decision and stay with us on the forums. Geri
  22. Chuck and I are also interested in your new tyvek cover for your Oliver. If you have had a chance to use it, we'd love to hear your report. I'm tired of cleaning off pine needles and pine tar from the Casita! Sounds like this might be just what we need. I need to order soon whether I get your report or not.... yuckky pine tar! We are going in Sept to the rally in Fort Smith Arkansas. Are you going ??? I hear Mountainborn and Butcherknife will be there along with Lane and the Poodle Girls! Geri
  23. Carol Anne, I drive a 6 cylinder, 4 wheel drive Chevy Trailblazer, 2004. I bought it used 2 years ago and even Chuck likes it better than his Chevy Silverado truck! It gets a bit better gas mileage than his truck too, even with my 4 wd! Geri
  24. Sherry and Paul (seadawg) Why don't you post the interior shots of your Oliver that were taken when Chris and Cherie (technomadia) took the tour of your Oliver, and post them on the Flickr websire mentioned above? Your interior inspired me! Just might help some curious new folks on just how good an Oliver can look! It DOES NOT have the surround tub look at all when properly appointed! You took suction cups to a whole new lwvel and I, for one, loved the look! Geri
  25. Hi Lenny! Welcome to the world of Oliver lovers! The Oliver is mostly custom made and #33 just rolled out of the factory! Therefore, there are not a lot of Olivers on the road yet and it may be quite awhile before one of us will be ready to give ours up! Why not give yourself a vacation and travel to beautiful Hoenwald TN and visit the Oliver factory! There you will see all kinds of owner options merging into the basic Oliver and you will see that each Oliver is uniquely different with it's own personality determined by the new owner. This beautiful traveling home isn't the usual cookie cutter type travel trailer you see in the RV sales lots all over the country! We love our Oliver and we can't say enough about how wonderful everyone is at the Oliver Factory. Our experience with the Oliver family, the Oliver factory and now our Oliver home on wheels has been totally awesome. We are happy campers! Geri and Chuck
