🆘SOS satellite feature on new iPhone 14 🆘
taylor.coyote replied to Patriot's topic in General Discussion
We spend a good deal of time off the grid and have been investigating various SOS soultions. Please find link to information about SOS if you are an Android users. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/01/qualcomm-says-it-built-a-better-satellite-messaging-system-than-apple/ -
please confirm I'm understanding the above stream. the trailer will manage shore power of 15-20amp connection to service the batteries and run a couple of small appliances ( small dehumidifier and 750 watt oil heater set at low level in my case). the trailer has a trickle charge type circuit that will shut off when the batteries are fully charged and the batters will not become over charged. Is this correct?

Last update... raced to get home and !#!!, not power. Just got PG&E update. It will BE 10 DAYS BEFORE WE GET POWER at our home... the good new is we heat 100% with a wood stove. the bad new is not running or hot water without running a generator. It's what we both love and dislike about living remote.

all really great stuff. thanks to everyone. we got a break in the weather mid-morning and decided to pack up and head for home. the wind was our biggest concern. Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge was reasonable. This made us feel a lot better about our decision to travel. Lots of small slides, standing water and raging rivers but we have just arrived at home.... and lots of down trees and the power is out here. One more night in the trailer will more comfortable than our home... glad to be home after 7 weeks. thanks all

All really good advice, especially Patriot funny comment of being in a brushless carwash. Got through the night with all ok. Mike and Carol's event with 60/70 mph gusts must have been a wild ride. I was reading flat sided trailers can be blown over with 55mph wind and more aerodynamic trailers have been know to blow over with 70mph winds broadside. Winds have yet to get too crazy but I'm liking nose to the wind hooked up for the rest of this storm.

yes, we have shore power.. i still have the propane open so we can cook and so on. are you recommending to turn off the propane value during the storm? Yea, I like a good storm as well. Going to have cabin fever by the time this one passes. It's forecast to be a major event until tomorrow afternoon. then we will see how long before they can clear 101 for travel.. hope to get lucky, we have been on the road for 7 weeks and would like to get home.

can't get home due to flooding, land sides and downed trees. Camping in Pacifica, Ca and catching the brunt of the storm off the ocean.. Winds 20, gusting to 35 mph and raining big time.. trailer doing some rock and rolling, high and dry so far but they say the worst is yet to come. Could be here a few days before we can navigate home on highway 101 to Arcata, Ca.

bhncb and dewdev.. have been without a computer as well as heat. just got my pc back on line. thank you for your thoughts. we are still on the road and have been relegated to camping when we can have power. we have a small oil filled heater that does a good job keep the chill away. I'm tapped and have this repair exceeds my skills. we are headed for the barn and will be home next week. the trailer is already repair slot booked. I will let everyone know what was wrong when i get it back from the shop best to all

thank you for the thoughts. gas flow is getting back to the hot water heater, I assuming also to the the furnace. Charged the batteries in the morning before hitting the road because we would be in late and did not want to run the generator late in the new camp. When we turn on the furnace, we get no sound at all. no clicking of the furnace trying to light. no sound at all..
-
wow, im sorry if i posted incorrect information. I assumed the two red handles were the only way my rear window opened. I had a seal issue with off road dirt coming. Swung it open add more foam to seal the dust leak. Never have thought to side it open... I'm very likely wrong about the window not having a sliding function.
-
our rear window swings out and open unlike the other sliding windows in the trailer. we have removed the window screen from the rear window to simplify getting out the rear window exit if the need arises

Some back ground: We have been doing a combination of shore power and doondocking in weather down to 25 degrees at night while traveling the last 4 weeks. The furnace has been working well. During the trip we replaced our sealed AMG batteries in case new batteries could impact the furnace function (old and died a slow death on this trip). new batteries before setting down/hot show 13.5..... settle down to 12.7 when charged and at rest first time we doondocked on our new batteries, we charged them using our generator. While running the the generator we used the heat strip to heat the trailer for an hour or so for the first time this trip. All was good and we packed up and moved to our next boondocking camp. Got set up at the new camp and turned our thermostat to furnace.... And nothing. no sound of any kind no sign of life. check and replaced the fuse.... and nothing.. no sound, no nothing... can anyone offer thoughts to get our furnace working? thanks

That's funny. My father paid $16,000 for our first family home when i was a kid in the mid-60's. Clearly the Ferrari proved to be the better investment in 1964. For towing it comes down to payload for your gear and trailer. the new fore f150's have a nice payload range from 1,800 - 3500 lbs but largely depends on the engine choice https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/content/dam/brand_ford/en_us/brand/resources/general/pdf/guides/21Towing_Ford_F150_Dec3.pdf if you get the cool turbo diesel with lots of torque at low rpm's the engine weight kills you payload.. (1,850 lbs). It's kind of crazy to have all that power and such a small payload. My last 1/2 ton would pull the the LE II fine but we were fighting the payload on every trip... What a pain. We went to an F250 6.7 diesel and don't need to worry about payload. Lot's of 1/2 will do a good job pulling the LE II but few will give you much payload. this said, the f250 is not a good daily driver.

Furnace slow to heat cabin
taylor.coyote replied to taylor.coyote's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Thanks for all the input. As always, your help is appreciated. Ended up as user error. I did not understand the function of the fan in auto mode. The fan set in auto mode changed the entire equation, Lots more heat fast. all ducting is secure. -

Furnace slow to heat cabin
taylor.coyote replied to taylor.coyote's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
all vents open.. the warm air flow is modest coming out of the vents. On the thermostat is set on the furnace mode. the heater kicks on (hot at the outside exhaust) and the ceiling unit comes as long as the furnace is on. Don't know what the heat strip is and have never use this mode. -
Is it normal for it to take an hour to change the inside temperature by 12-15 degrees? its not the cold yet. the cabin temperature starts at around 50 degrees and takes 45 minutes +/- to reach 60-64 degrees. I'm assuming the heat only runs on propane and does not have an ac mode... we will be headed out to some higher elevation of the grid camping next month with the temps at night dropping into the twenties. Please share your experience as to what is normal. is there anything we can to to improve the furnace's performance?

you might try Tractor supply for a 2200i Honda. I saw some in one of the Oregon stores a week ago.
