  1. While camping at Disney's Fort Wilderness this past week we awoke Friday morning at 1:00 when the AC and my CPAP went off. Thinking it was a simple breaker overload I reset the main breaker and sparks shot from the panel like fireworks. I immediately unplugged from the 30 AMP post and we spent the rest of the morning trying to sleep with only the roof fan on. Now my quandry is this. Drive 450 miles to Oliver to have it repaired, or take it to a local camping world. The panel is a burnt mess.
  2. Everyone here should know that I detest the Anderson hitch. Getting the thing hooked up just about ended my camping life. I have the one I bought in a box in my garage. After ditching the Anderson I had Firestone air bags installed with the on board compressor. Best money I have spent in a long time. My Avalanche is really a Suburban, which has coil rather than leaf springs so it would not be nearly as stiff in the rear as a real truck. The air bags work great allowing me to run level. The Ollie simply does not sway so that element does not need to be addressed. Of course if you choose to run at dangerously high speed you will get some sideways lift from the Movement of air over the smooth surface. Solution...drive slower.
  3. Our fan is making a high pitch hum noise that resonates through the trailer. Anyone else experience this and is there a suggestion for a correction?
  4. Thanks for the good information and excellent photos.
  5. Thanks all. Sherry I did see Davidson River and we plan to take a look while near Brevard. The gorge is our main reason for camping near Boone so that is all good information. Topgun, I look forward to visiting while in Hiawassee for the rally.
  6. I did the same thing except I paid for the Atwood Air Commander. It is very quiet inside and out and will run on my Honda 2000i generator. The only downside is that the fan runs all the time. I plan to fix that with a thermostat controlled relay.
  7. Has anyone camped at this CG near Brevard, NC? We are going to be in the Asheville area again this Summer and are looking at several locations. Already set for Lake Powhatton and Mount Pisgah. Any suggestions for the Boone, NC area?
  8. Jona, What is your mileage with the diesel? I have been looking at thre Ram diesel. Did you research that truck. Also I am still intrigued with the Mercedes Sprinter for tow vehicle.
  9. We were camped at a commercial CG on the French Broad last year and there was an Airstream Argossy fiberglas camper. Really old but a guy was living in it. I could not tell if it was molded but there were hundreds of rivets everywhere. Maybe Airstream took some plastic sheets and popped them together to call it a fiberglas camper?
  10. C'mon you Ollie owners. Let's break the Cherokee record which was five Ollies. We just need two more.
  11. Jona, We are registered for just three nights. We will stay in the area for about a week, prolly at Blackrock Mountain which is a favorite for us. Yes we will camp at Pisgah again during our Summer break. We will move around a bit more this time. Some at Lake Powhatton, some at a private campground, and maybe a little stealth camping along the way. We may keep going Northward into Shenandoah Valley regions, or even on up into Maine. Just depends on how we feel. Excited to get the Ollie gang together again.
  12. We are going to make a reservation there today. Are you guys stayning any extra days?
  13. I heard they are offering a composting toilet. This would interest me as an add on.
  14. Sherry, Thanks for the affirmation. There is a couple on the Casita forum who have done this with a Sprinter. They call it the Red Dragon. As previously mentioned my concept is a separate living/entertaining space. We frequently camp with another couple and it is humbling when we have to use their 18 foot R Pod for dining bcause it has a dinette that seats four comfortably. So a simple arrangement of four chairs, table, and composting toilet will suffice. I am thinking of a rear bulkhead with access from the back doors on which I will mount storage shelves...for all the essentials I carry. The other side of this bulkhead wall could hold a flat screen TV and some good speakers. I will check out the 3500 model for extra towing capacity. I would look for a low mileage used one. We are planning our Summer trip to Ashevile. Maybe we will be able to visit you this season. August/Sepr. David
  15. I am thinking about replacing my truck with a Mercedes Sprinter diesel van. My idea is to buy a cargo van and set it up as a living room. A place to kick back and watch some TV or a movie and also have a place for four people to visit or have a meal. The idea would be to sleep , cook, and eat in the Ollie and relax in the van. I will do the work myself...insulation, carpet, seats, etc. Have a roof air installed and maybe a composting head. Do the experts have a read on towing with a van? The specs state 5000 pounds so the Ollie wil be a tad over.

  17. Anyone ever used the Sewer Solutions macerator adapter? I own one but never felt the need to use it.
  18. Nice. We had all custom cushions made. My wife is a seamstress and sewed beutiful upholstery for all cushions, including our Memory foam 8" mattresses. The high density foam dinette cushions make a bid difference. see photos at www.emeraldcoastcamper.com It was crowded on the trip to take delivery but worth it. You will be glad you have these custom cushions.
  19. All I know is that New Orleans is hot and sticky in the Summer.
  20. My guess would be less than 50 were made with Mach. We are hull 64 and it came with a Mach 8 which I switched out for an Atwood Air Command.
  21. Ken, Did you drill a pilot hole for the self tapping lag bolts. If so what size bit did you use.
  22. Jason called yesterday and assured me that a gap of up to one inch is acceptable on the cross member in question. As long as the coach is sitting on the main structure all is well.
  23. Ken...and others, I crawled under my trailer to start planning the jack installation and discovered something troubling. The coach is not touching the frame cross member that I would put the jacks on. There is a gap ranging from .25 inch on each end of the frame to .5 inch in the middle. We have had issues with the front door and the bathroom door since we took delivery and I wonder if this may be the problem. Could it be the reason the trailer moves even when jacks are extended. Did you notice such an issue Ken? I have contacted Jason Essery at Oliver and await their response. Would like to here from anyone else after you take a look.
