  1. Don Thompson, My brother has used this for several years and enjoys discounts he gets with it. Here you can join for $27.00 found this on the Oliver site.http://www.goodsamclub.com/defaultc.aspx
  2. My 1995 Ford F-250 4-wheel drive tail gate clears the hitch by a couple of inches. Bottom of my gate when open is 30.25 inches off the blacktop. Hope this helps. Good luck.
  3. One more thing as Columbo, used to say. When you purchase your Ollie TT the hardware you get for the 20 lb. tanks will not work with the 30 lb. tanks. but the 30 lb. hardware to hold the tanks will work with the 20 lb. tanks. This is per Jason, the service manager. So if you want to use 20 pounders in place of the larger tanks it will work fine. Lukins alluded to this in their posting.
  4. OK, We finally picked up our ollie on February 9th and I'm not adding much writing just the milage we got with the 22 year old (1995) F-250 Ford Turbo Diesel Power Stroke 4-wheel drive. This is a regular cab with an 8' bed. On the way down with about 400 pounds in the bed we got 17.18 mpg. It was cold and slick for the first few miles then the roads were fine all the way to Hohenwald, TN. After staying all night in Fall Hollow Campground and getting our TV antenna installed the next day we left Hohenwald about 3:40PM. Pulling some curvy and hilly roads of Tennessee and then getting out on the interstate we averaged 15.25 mpg on the whole 385 mile trip. I was actually fine with that mileage as I though I might get less. I think the Ollie being pretty light and aerodynamic had something to do with it too. The Oliver pulled like a dream with nothing but the regular hitch and we had no problems whatsoever. Take into consideration this was an old Navistar engine. The new diesels have quite a lot more horsepower and torque and technical refinements such as 4 valves per cylindar. On some hills the truck did shift down to a lower gear. But that is just one trip but I tried to make the mpg as accurate as possible. Ford is coming out with an F-150 diesel in 2018 so I might be buying one of those, but I like the heavier F- 250s too.
  5. Yep, disconnecting the water hose if you know it's going to freeze is a good idea and having a backup hose in case you get caught is a good idea too. Or you might have to bring your frozen hose in and unthaw in the bathroom.
  6. Answer please. I live in central Illinois and there is tons of salt and chemicals on the road, I don't know what they spray on the bridges, but keeps ice off. How hard is this on my Ollies frame? Here is my question. Should I use plastic that comes in rolls/sheets and wrap around the frame and then use duct tape around it to protect my frame? Sounds kind of stupid, but an Ollie is quite an investment and keeping it pristine looking keeps the value up. Next question is the frame open enough to do this? Next question is there a substance one can wipe or spray on the aluminum to keep it looking good? Maybe a special wax, grease plasti-coat. Are there any metallurgists in are Oliver Forums? Any coatings specialists? BTW if in Illinois you see beautiful pick-ups driving around and then look down at there bodies near the road and fenders and they are rusted out. Proof of the damage salt can do.
  7. Canoe12 you can call the company and they will give you your Hull#. I called for mine which was #))) in middle of September. They will tell you what your number is. I just secreted my number as this is not a private site. lol. Have you joined our Facebook site yet? Here it is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OllieOwners/ It's faster, more private, and easier to post from other sites. Thank you very much!
  8. I am privately messaging the people on here I've communicated with. So they will request entry. J-Rhett aka Walter Jenkins on FB
  9. Wow, I wanted to JOIN your group Karen, but I found out I was chasing the wind. Then I wrote on here for 5 minutes and poooofff! something happened and it was gone. I think we need your Oliver group too Karen!~ J-Rhett
  10. We will be calling in our reservation today. Sounds like a fun and informative time. Our first rally! Rhett & Dory
  11. OK, I found a better place I think suitable for our address book. It's called Rolosync and costs much less than keepandshare, but it is very limited in what we can do. One person can keep all the information, which is just addresses, phone numbers and emails, probably enough and this person can share with anyone. The person receiving the info can edit or not-edit according to the person sending. This is just $30 a year for the person keeping the book. Check it out here:https://www.rolosync.com/login.php Or we can do something else, just not have any addresses until you meet another Ollie person on the trail and get the info from them. That's cool too, but is very limiting to caravans and rallies and so on.
  12. Please read------Need more input please. Want to do this? Good and interesting input and suggestions Bill. Yes, I'm sure some people would be interested in being our keeper of books. With all the technology we have today it shouldn't be too hard. I'm willing to send my info to an Oliver Secretary, just want it kept safe. We could actually do it on Facebook with a Group Members Only and YOU have to own an Oliver Travel Trailer or if not, you have to have an Oliver Owner vouch for your entrance to the group. Could fix and address book so it would arrange by Hull# or Last name of owner. I agree we don't need to try to put this on the Oliver Company as it would be somewhat time consuming. Yes, Moderators are the place to start, as I think they are long time campers and know lots of us. But I'm not sure any of them would want to spend the extra time it takes to develop what we are talking about. I'm going to hunt for a web site where we can enter our info for free. Yep, I found one I think would be great. It's called Keep & Share. Here is the site: https://www.keepandshare.com so please check it out and see if it will suffice. But since some people are not so computer literate I think the site should be run by a single group of people who have the time, inclination, and most of all the WANT to keep the address book. Would the four Moderators we have now want to take this on? I know Sherry (Seadawg) is very adept at using the computer! We can all send the person who accepts the JOB our info. The info we send could be, well, it's almost to long of list to put on here. Name, address, Hull#, Phone #'s, Emails, years camping, free space to camp, there is a large place for notes too. I think this site is pretty flexible. Also it has a premium site and I am going to check and see what that offers. Need more input please.
  13. As Columbo used to say, 'Just one more thing', ok, here goes. Canoe12 suggested he had a place for Oliver owners who venture to Maine a free place to stay. That's cool, LOL, I don't know how long one could stay there before he ran us off!!?? Anyway, I bet there are a lot more of us that have a free place to camp too. I have an empty lot one block from me in Decatur, IL that will hold several Olivers I think it's 100 X 300 and has several shade trees on it too. Free parking for Olivers and also have space by my house with another empty lot. So we should list parking spaces with the other personal info we want to list. Someone skilled at this type of secretarial work should make us something like most churches have an address book with names, address, phones, emails, free parking and to belong to our Oliver club you have to pay a certain fee, maybe $10 annually to get a new copy of the address/member book. That would probably cover the cost of the book and pay the secretary a slight fee of $100.00 to do the work. I don't know the fees or amount of time involved, just suggesting a way to make it convenient for us Oliver Owners. Some people would love to do this. Who are you secretary?
  14. I found some info on mpg for the Nissan XD Diesel. Sorry, but it's not good if talking milage. That Nissan diesel I looked at is still sitting there on the lot in my home town and the dealer has it reduced by about $11K so you know they are not jumping off the lot even though they look good. Edmunds tested this diesel for 5700 miles and it averaged a 14.7 mpg all around and they haven't even towed anything with it. I noticed that the rear gears are 3.96 if I'm not mistaken and that is pretty low. So, of course gearing has a lot to do with mileage. I don't know if this is standard and unchangeable or not. The article I read also gave mileage for the top 3 trucks too, but the Ford was a F-450 so that is not comparable to a Chevy or Dodge 3/4 ton. Why did they do that? An F-450 is 1.50 ton truck or therebouts and is built heavier and lower gearing than the other 2. I would think this new Nissan XD with Cummins 5.0 would pull right up there with the top 3 brand name trucks. I still like grayghosts 17.5 mpg on his Dodge 1500. BTW, IMHO means by the way in my humble opinion I think mileage on here should be accurate and to get that should be measured by pencil and paper and fillups. I don't trust anyone's electronic measuring devices unless you have calibrated your electronic and made sure it's right on with you pencil and paper! Here is the article: https://www.edmunds.com/nissan/titan-xd/2016/long-term-road-test/2016-nissan-titan-xd-the-diesel-v8s-fuel-economy-so-far.html
  15. Just a thought! We, Ollie Owners should find a spot online where we can post our email addresses and phone numbers can include Hull# and build date too,so we can readily communicate with each other. I admit that can be somewhat dangerous because someone could 'cause us heartaches and headaches if a person distributed our info to the wrong place. Ollie owners might want to elect a secretary too, so that person could keep the info safe. There is advantages and disadvantages to establish a club/brotherhood like this. But if I'm out in my drive and got poop running every where I want to call an Ollie owner for info. Probably a moderator or buzzy or someone who has an engineering degree! LOL Well, the factory people Anita and Heather, have all our emails and phone numbers I guess, of course, they can't release them. And we can communicate on here, but it's kind of limited, because some people rarely use this site, others are busy, some are computer-handicapped, and I've found this site down a couple of times for several hours. And sometimes it's easier to reach people by phone and persuade them to join a caravan to the next Oliver Rally! lol I forgot who it was, but they took a caravan to Mexico a couple of years ago and it was the best trip of their life! One can see we are not a trusting group as most of us use a FAKE name or handle. LOL. I don't blame anyone for that. I even use a fake name on Facebook. Anyway, just a thought! Who wants to be secretary, President? lol just saying!
  16. Hi Sherry, you Seadawg you! Nope, not tried it yet, but I'm going to order one, maybe that exact one when I pick up my trailer and get it home. We have a similar one on our home and have used it for several years, actually the second one as we wore the first one out. Very convenient and I know it would be much more convenient. Well, the one I was looking at had a remote electronic keyfob too which I want. Open your trailer from a few steps away or from your car/truck. Hope someone tries it soon and gives us a review. Jason said a electronic lock from the factory was $395 he thought. This one is $250 on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/RVLock-Keyless-Handle-Integrated-Keypad/dp/B00N58KQMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481723897&sr=8-1&keywords=RV+camper+trailer+remote+entry+lock
  17. Don, I've never camped YET, but I know almost everyone leaves the propane on to keep their refrigerator running so I would say "Yes" leave it on. You have to leave it on, if not, and you're carrying water it will freeze and burst the lines. If not, winterize it and fell it back up in the south.
  18. Canoe12, Thanks so much for checking on my #186 Ollie. You got it right, it was the big white one! Yep, it's supposed to be ready for pickup on the 15th. We are heading overseas so Heather said they could store it for a while. BTW, you made me LOL when you said the big white one! Thanks for your humor as the world needs more of it! Glad you ordered one and hope to see you out on the trail or a rally sometime. How will I know you or will you introduce yourself as Canoe12? Anyway, glad for you and enjoy your new Oliver! Rhett PS You have a beautiful granddaughter and cute dog. I know how I will know you now, we are the same age! LOL
