North Rim Closed for 2025

Sad news that the North Rim Grand Canyon Lodge and the Visitor Center have  been destroyed by fire.

Praying for those that have suffered loss in this tragic fire.

• The North Rim is closed for the remainder of the 2025 season because of losses resulting from the Dragon Bravo Wildfire.

Thank you for this notification! We were thinking of going to the North Rim this Sept-Oct. Looks like our alternative of SW Colorado will be it. Wonder what will the National Parks Service do about rebuilding the lodge? (We would boondock in the area anyway.)

I've been changing our bookings as well.  We're going to getting new springs in Grand Junction CO in early October,  but will also avoid the Black Canyon of the Gunnison which is on fire at this time.   My wife is also distraught about the Brighty of the Grand Canyon Statue being lost in the fire.

Perhaps we can bump into you along the way! We're thinking 9/22 start to about 10/15. We loved the areas south of Grand Junction (after my Alcan visit), from Ridgway CO down, Sunshine Campground near Telluride, then south along the Delores River ending in Delores CO. Endless boondocking opportunities along the way. During our recent trip we only had a few days in the area, so we want to go back and camp along that route for 3+ weeks! 😂

We were just at Black Canyon of the Gunnison South Rim at the end of May and have done Grand Canyon's South Rim but haven't made it to the North Rim yet. Sad that so much was lost including the lodge. The historic buildings are such an added bonus when visiting Grand Canyon and wish we'd had the opportunity to see it before this happened. Grateful we saw Black Canyon when we did. The last report I saw said that fire was still 0% contained.
