ScottyGS Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Recently replaced our A/C with a new unit. The Air distribution box has a smaller footprint than the old Penguin. So, I filled in with white caulk. Of course, the white caulk is not as white as Donna would like it to be. What suggestions do you have for touching up with a whiter white. Touch up Auto paint? These are small... about 1/8th inch in diameter but there are eight of them. Plus they are on the ceiling so they tend to be noticed around bedtime. Help me get a good nights sleep... Please! Steve Morris Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Here ya go. Cheaper than touch-up paint or new caulk, and an outdoor camping experience to boot! https://a.co/d/074EF7vg I had these in my bedroom as a kid, and it was the first thing that came to mind. Not actually helpful, but they might be a distraction. 😉 Edited October 7 by Steve Morris 1 ----- Steve - Northern Ohio, USA Wandering around on occasion, always lost. 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser - 2023 Oliver Elite II Twin Hull #1360 “Curiosity” Facebook - Instagram Camped in Curiosity = Green —— Visited with Curiosity = Gray

BigTexas Posted October 10 Posted October 10 I used white plastic hole plugs similar to below when I changed out my A/C. I actually had to enlarge the holes to get the smallest one's to fit. You don't really notice them but if you do, they just like part of the installation. I was concerned that if I tried to fill the holes, I wouldn't be able to reproduce the glossy finish of the gel coat and that would be more noticeable. https://www.amazon.com/Tnisesm-Plastic-Knockout-Locking-Furniture/dp/B0C3H1J6M8 4 Big Texas – 2018 Elite II, Twin Bed, Hull #306 2024 RAM 2500 6.7L Cummins, Weigh Safe hitch

I think if anyone is getting kicked out it will be me. I just re-sealed the Maxx Fan and used 3M Marine Adhesive Sealant - Fast Cure 4000 UV. Found it very easy to work with... used painters tape about 3/16" from the edge and ran the bead very easy. While I was doing that... I started thinking... Damn this stuff is WHITE! I mean like BRIGHT WHITE.... Then the light bulb went off and just a little dab over the caulk in the old drill holes and it is now an acceptable level of whiteness for Donna. So, no one has to sleep outside. Looking forward to seeing you at the Rally. Maybe you will give us a quick tour of the new battery system. #145 goes in to Easton in November. thompsonkd Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Hey Scotty. Would you mind posting a few pictures of the air handler unit in the cabin after your new Chill Cube was installed, especially with holes you filled? As you mentioned above, there is a bit of difference between the Penguin and the Chill Cube inside. The Chill Cube is intriguing and seems potentially like a good choice, especially for energy management. And have you had much of a chance yet to try it out? I’d be interested in further reports. Thanks. Kim and David Thompson Nomads' Nest 2018 LE2 #366 2018 Toyota Tundra, 4x4, 5.7L

Scotty is camping and he might not have a pic before he filled the holes. I filled mine too but have this picture from before. You can see two holes in front and look closer to see two more on either side. The Dometic P2 was twice as big inside and out. There are two more in back 6" beyond the much smaller Chill Cube. Notice the headroom too! Another reason it's quiet is the air handler/fan are not hanging down into the cabin interior like ALL the others! 7 hours ago, thompsonkd said: The Chill Cube is intriguing and seems potentially like a good choice, especially for energy management. He got the newer Heat Pump version and we hope to hear about that function soon. The link below goes directly to page 2 of my Chill Cube post which shows the installation. Pages 3-4 have some of my reporting on its efficiency. We ran ours all summer (all of 2026) and we just LOVE it! thompsonkd Posted Wednesday at 05:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:38 PM Thanks JD. We are weighing all of our options for replacing the Dometic. The Chill Cube is certainly getting a lot of play with people. And Inverter Service Center, the place where Steve got his electrical upgrade done, recommends the Chill Cube and may actually start installing it at some point. Thanks again! 1 Kim and David Thompson Nomads' Nest 2018 LE2 #366 2018 Toyota Tundra, 4x4, 5.7L
ScottyGS Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Very happy with the chill cube. Here is my post on Johns thread for the Furrion: Heat Pump update At the Oliver Rally in Lake Guntersville we had great weather. Daytime in the mid 70's so no opportunity to test the a/c. But at night the temps went down to mid / high 40's. Ran the heat pump every night set at 68 degrees. It would cycle on and off through the night... When it first started it was louder (about 47db) then it settled down to a very quiet purr (about 38db). I ran it up to 73-74 and it came on strong and warm still about 47db. Easy to live with. Can carry on a conversation even at its loudest. Very happy with the unit. My wife, Donna, is very sensitive to propane smell and reported a slight headache when we woke after using the propane heat. During the rally, she said there was no headache at all and she loves the heat pump. I am certain that after the 900ah upgrade we will be using the chill cube pretty exclusively for heat and a/c. It does remain to be seen how the condensate issue does in the East during a hot summer. You'll have to wait on that report.
