DavidS Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 We drove through some hot weather at the beginning of our recent trip. Our traveling companions, pulling their Casita, drove with the Fan open on the roof and also with a trailer window open. (The Fan was off.) They did this to create some ventilation through the trailer, so that the trailer interior was cooler when they arrived at their destination. The Oliver Owners Manual explicitly states that the trailer windows should be closed when the trailer is moving, and the MaxxFan instruction manual has a similar prohibition. Has anyone tried this with their Oliver? 1 David Stillman, Salt Lake City, Utah 2016 Oliver Elite II Hull 164 | 2017 Audi Q7 tow vehicle. Travel and Photography Blog: http://davidstravels.net
Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted September 25, 2017 Moderator+ Posted September 25, 2017 Unless it looks like rain or the weather is cold, we always travel with the windows open about 4 inches and the MaxxFan cover raised to create a cross ventilation. Never had any trouble unless we ran thru some rain and I either forgot and left them open or had to get out in the pouring rain to close them! I don't own a manual so I can't comment on why they would state "that the trailer windows should be closed when the trailer is moving." Ignorance is apparently bliss. 2 Steve, Tali and our dog Rocky plus our beloved dogs Storm, Lucy, Maggie and Reacher (all waiting at the Rainbow Bridge) 2008 Legacy Elite I - Outlaw Oliver, Hull #026 | 2014 Legacy Elite II - Outlaw Oliver, Hull #050 | 2022 Silverado High Country 3500HD SRW Diesel 4x4
Mainiac Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 I have traveled with my vent open, fan not on. Didn't know I wasn't supposed too. I haven't noticed any adverse effects that I am aware of. Also have left the bath room vent open at the same time. Guess we were living on the edge... 2
JuniorBirdMan Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I've been doing it constantly for almost 9 years now. I never got a manual for my Ollie (#32) so never knew better. The only time I had a problem was when I left the push-up bath vent open and the fan powered. I doubt the poor little motor lasted more than a few minutes at the speeds I like to travel. 4 Aubrey and the two wingmen, Woodstock & Rascal Oliver #032, "El Huevito" Ford F-150 4x4
Moderators bugeyedriver Posted September 28, 2017 Moderators Posted September 28, 2017 Aubrey, You Eagle drivers just can't stay out of afterburner, can you? Hog drivers don't have that problem. You're retired . . . relax! I have a cover over my fan and always have it pumping out air while traveling. I crack the side rear windows a smidgen to aid in the air exchange. Pete 2 Pete & "Bosker". Moderators SeaDawg Posted September 28, 2017 Moderators Posted September 28, 2017 We don't have the Maxx fan, but have the Maxx vent cover. I never think about closing it, so it's open when at camp, or driving, at least a little. Always close the bathroom vent. And windows. I have no idea if this is right or wrong. It's just what we habitually do. 2008 Ram 1500 4 × 4 2008 Oliver Elite, Hull #12 Florida and Western North Carolina, or wherever the truck goes.... 400 watts solar. DC compressor fridge.
