Water line toilet valve repurposed

Good morning,

Question for y'all. We have the compost toilet and I was wondering if anyone has repurposed the water valve behind the toilet for something like a portable washing machine? I just got one from the laundry alternative and planned to connect it to the bathroom faucet but the Manuel says you can't hook to a pull out faucet. So then I remembered the water valve behind the toilet and wonder if I could use that instead? Thoughts?

How big is the washer? It could be a very cool mod, the water line simply tees into the cold line under the sink. It could drain into the shower pan. If you want to place it on top of the toilet you should definitely install a 1 way check valve so that there is no possibility of contaminating your water supply.

Please don’t let it discharge into the campground grass like this guy!

I put a Caframo fan in the back, with a rear window open and the MaxxFan running on exhaust, I can point the small one at the clothesline and it greatly speeds up the drying time. Especially with synthetic fabrics.

The washer is 16" by 16" by 28" so not big. I would need to figure out what type fitting would work. And yes, drain to gray tank.

I'm very curious to see how this works for you.  We currently do small loads in a laundry bag/scrubber, but are limited to a couple of pairs of bike shorts/jerseys at a time.

It's working great! Went to home Depot and got a knowledgeable plumbing person. Took her 3 minutes to locate 2 adapters and a short hose 😁 This has to be my best mod yet! Got to figure out a storage place though.

That's awesome. First, that you found a helpful and knowledgeable person at the big box store, and second, that they actually had everything you needed. 

How much does the cute little washer weigh? Will you have to keep it in the truckbed?

It does weigh 50 lbs. It's from The Laundry Alternative.com and the model is the purifi. They do have other models. They have a smaller one but I thought it was too small. Here are the adapters plus I bought a short plumbing hose.

Thanks for the details.  This is on our list, but at 50 pounds it might have to wait until we have a TV with more payload.  🙂

I think we are going to store it (only on long trips) in the front basket of the oliver wrapped in thick insulation. TLA does have a cute smaller one that only weighs 13 lbs. We can't haul it in our TV because it's taller than the bed cover.

Update to the weight of the purifi washer. It's 42 lbs not 50 lbs. Sorry about that!

Instead of moving a 42 pound machine in and out of the trailer, why not just use it sitting in the outside front generator basket. It would be very simple to run a water line out through the front of the trailer to the washer or if you're in a campground simply run a hose to it from the campground tap.

That is a GREAT idea. I just looked for a 5 ft hose on Amazon and its only "11 bucks! Thanks so much! And then it is not in the way in the bathroom!

@chiwald this looks like a great little washing machine. Have you used it much and are you happy with it?
