We are considering a purchase and I am curious about storage and care when not in use. Best we can do (I think) is open storage in a secure lot....full sun.

I’ve read where some use a cover.....wouldn’t that defeat the solar battery charging? Or do you remove the batteries while storing?

Just curious how most of you store and care for the exterior of your Oliver. How do you recommend maintaining the exterior and would continuous exposure to the sun be detrimental?

    All input appreciated!

    Darrell

    Hi Darrell,

We used a Calmark cover the first winter of storage and it worked well. As others may have mentioned your solar panels will not be working if you choose to cover your Ollie.
Last July we had a steel building aka “Ollie Hangar” built at our home to help keep our Ollie looking new. We have 30 amp service so keeping our Ollie charged is not an issue. We could not be happier with our Ollie parked right here at home vs storage fees and security concerns. We also really like not having to cover our Ollie with our Calmark cover as it makes it so much easier load up and take off south for warmer weather this winter. We choose not to have our stabilizers down when it’s parked in the hangar.
    Happy Camping!

The hangar structure dimensions are 13’Wx25’Lx11’H  allowing for plenty of room for washing and waxing.

    The actual slab is 12’x55’.

Also no need for lighting in the hangar as the Oliver lights are more than adequate for any work I need to do.😎

I had the 12x55 slab poured with just enough fall that even in the hardest rain water does

    not run under the Ollie.

  2. We just returned home from an amazing 8 days at Huntington Beach SP only 247 miles away from our home.
Located right on the Atlantic Ocean with 3 miles of beach front and no high rises hotels or homes ever yay! Our weather the entire time was stellar! We took our bicycles and rode every path on the park. There are plenty of alligators 🐊  and we spotted a few while out riding in the lake and swampy areas. We are mountain campers, but we need a beach fix this will be our go to SP. The staff at this park really worked hard to get it back up and running after Ian blew through at high tide. It’s amazing what the park staff and volunteers got accomplished cleaning up in a very short turnaround .
Our site was less than a 5 min walk to the beach. I even cheffed up some fresh blackened shrimp. 🍤 A very memorable stay! 😊

We just got power back after a 48 hours outage due to Ian.  We’ve been gone a month and I have some catching up to do.  Details to follow.

    Mossey

    Mossey,
Well welcome back and yes you were missed! Hopefully you did not have any extensive damage from Ian. So far here in Western NC we are just having lots of rain and wind.
We hope you had a great trip and look forward to hearing about your adventures!

  4. Wanting to delete carrying any gasoline in our truck bed, we recently purchased an eu3000is and I installed this LP conversion kit by Hutch Mountain -https://www.hutchmountain.com/collections/propane-natural-gas-conversions/products/honda-eu3000is-propane-natural-gas-gasoline-tri-fuel-conversion-kit

As soon as you install this retro fit LP conversion just know that it cancels the Honda factory warranty since it’s not a Honda endorsed product. Hutch Mountain customer service is excellent and assured me that they have never had issues with running LP, LNG or gas in this configuration. The reviews are pretty strong at 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟.
Per HM - Extended Runtimes on 30lb propane tank: Full load-10hrs, half load-20hrs, quarter load-30hrs

My wife (copilot) and I can both manage to lift this into the gen tray or our TV bed. We plan to carry this in in the bed and not in the gen tray as it weighs in at 130# dry. We could carry it in the gen tray as per a phone call to Oliver Service this morning the gen tray is rated for 150#.
We conducted our first gen test the other day and the now LP eu3000is performed flawlessly.

Not a bad lift onto our tail gate.💪🏻

It runs super quiet, fits in the gen tray with actually a little room to spare. Naturally if you are splitting hairs on cargo capacity with additional weight this size gen configuration may not be for you.

  5. We have dear friends with a home on Marco Island located on a large canal and with a fairly large boat docked at their home. Marco Island is now under curfew and we have not heard from them since 3:30 pm today. They opted to ride the storm out ugh. Reported storm surge of 8-10’. Needless to say are very concerned about their safety.

Yes, the 2023 Sequoias sure do like nice and have a great towing ability. Not sure I want to swap my 2019 to a newer model that is improving with a new engine design, etc.

Still - they sure do look nice.

Personally I would not consider any SUV or 1/2 ton pick up a “great towing vehicle” after towing with a one ton diesel F 350. We started out towing our Oliver LE2 with an 2014 Tundra with an WDH hitch. It towed ok, but really worked hard in the mountain passes. We soon sold and moved to a much safer and capable TV.
We took a hard pass on the 2022 Toyota Tundra for our needs as we felt it was a marginal TV with regard to 1400# cargo capacity, braking, and power after crunching the numbers. 1400 lbs or 1500 lbs of pay load is splitting hairs with regard to being well with in safe legal cargo limits with what we carry. I don’t want to think about how much cargo capacity I am crunching numbers on..ever.

Even if you weekend camp with an empty Oliver you may still be really pushing the limits of your cargo capacity when it comes to insurance consequences IF something goes wrong. We presently tow with a one ton diesel and enjoy the mpgs, power, diesel engine brake and especially the total comfort level.

We are on Vancouver Island now, Miracle Beach to be exact. I've spent hours playing in tide pools at low tide. Heading to Pacific Rim NP (Tofino area) tomorrow for a few days then to Victoria.

The Cassiar was beautiful. Aspens in their glory the top half. Boya was wonderful & quiet. There is an artesian well near the dump station & you're asked to limit your fill to 20 gallons. And, as always, the Gray Jay's (who thought the button on my cap was edible) were entertaining.

  8. Mt. Pisgah and the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway is a gorgeous area with some of the highest elevations. The Smoky Mtn Expressway is also a really pretty drive. My wife and I rode our dual sport motorcycles from the Smoky Mtn Expressway all the way to Front Royal, Va several years ago. It was a memorable week long fun adventure trip.
We live in the foothills of Western NC and have spent time at Mt Pisgah. So glad you enjoyed the beautiful vistas of the BRP…it’s a national treasure for sure. Check out Mtn Mitchell and Grandfather Mtn as well for some incredible views.

We love living in the western NC. 🇺🇸

  10. I use what Oliver recommends this ASI 335 - and have been happy with it. Do an online search for the best price.
I also wax but never use a buffer on decals only a clean Terry cloth.

No, the bad bypass valve still felt normal when opening and closing it.  The faulty seal inside the bypass valve wasn’t noticeable until I removed the valve.   The new CAMCO bypass valve is installed and works well so far.  One nice little detail of this CAMCO valve is that the positions are labeled (open or bypass).  And I changed all water lines into and out of the Truma to braided flexible supply lines and brass fittings to eliminate the issue of breakage of the rigid plastic connections that some owners have had.

  12. We keep it fairly simple when storing our water hoses, water filters, LP quick connect hose, (2) 30 amp cords and other miscellaneous items in the basement of our Ollie. We ordered a three pack of these milk crates. Two fit nicely into the basement and a third holds 6 gallons of fresh drinking water in our TV bed. We like the crates as they quickly air dry should any residual water drip out of the fresh water hoses after storing them.
Our twin bed Ollie allows for quick easy access to the open top crate contents from the interior night stand (optional) basement access door if you want to store footwear or other items.

    Happy Camping!

  13. As topgun2 said there are many mounting options. My bride aka “navigator” likes being able to remove the 890 on the fly and type in directions while holding the 890 in her lap. The magnet works great quickly allowing her to place it back on the dash mount. We used the 890 all last summer visiting 16 states and 22 CGs. The location of our 890 does not obstruct my view will driving our factory lifted F350 has a tall stance, so no issues. Thank you Bill for recommending this gps! The RV890 is a game changer! 😊

This large magnet mount works great. It allows us to store the unit in our console vault when ever we exit the vehicle for an extended period of time.

Chiming in a little late on this, but I do think it bears emphasizing that 27' is considerably larger than 23', especially in state park campgrounds.  We are 4 months into a trip from our home base in the FL Keys and have been up as far as Cape Breton, PEI, and throughout New England. Many of the campgrounds we have stayed in had very few campsites that could accommodate 27'. One other consideration is that if you really intend on using both air conditioners, you will likely need 50 amp service which will further limit your options. As others have pointed out, it will be important to predefine what style of camping best suits you.

    KeysConchs,

We agree with you on length being a concern. We also traveled the entire east coast last summer from Gulf Shores to Maine and never had an issue with getting a site.  I personally don’t see Oliver building any thing larger than the LE2 for a lot of reasons. There is still awaiting list to order and purchase LE2’s. Anything larger would be super expensive and possibly not sell as well as the existing model. Oliver has really got a great design in the LE2 and we are thrilled with ours. It’s everything we need and nothing we don’t. 👍🏻😊

On Friday, I took our LEII to the Zarcor Solutions facility in Addison, TX (a burb north of Dallas) for installation of a tinted window for our entry door and Zarcor's Closures Shutter Blind and the video recording of the installation.

John Harder, President of Zarcor, had previously sent me a sales receipt showing the cost of the parts as $149.00 and installation labor of $120.00, for a total of $269.00.  The sales receipts also showed a discount of $269.00 for allowing Zarcor to use our trailer to make an installation and sales video.  Thus the cost to me was $0.00.

John's team demonstrated their experience by carefully removing the inner trim from our entry door to remove the standard textured glass.  I had previously seen photos posted on the OTT Forum where the fastener tabs which retain the inner trim had been broken during removal.  Javier, the primary installer, carefully inserted the plastic release tabs into the slots around the inner trim.  Several fastener locations could not immediately be released.  Javier's experience became evident as he continued to work the release tabs until all of the fasteners released, undamaged.  The RVLock 4.0 which I had installed post delivery had to be removed to permit access to the slots to free the fasteners on the lower right corner.

Once the inner trim was removed, the textured glass was easily removed and the new clear,  tinted glass inserted, with new sealing caulk around inside of the frame.  The outer window trim was not removed, retaining its factory seal.

Once the tinted glass was in place the Clozure Shutter blind, consisting of two sheets of acrylic, was fastened to the inside of the glass with small Velcro disks.  Each acrylic sheet is coated with vertical white stripes approximately 3/4" wide, alternating with clear stripes.  The acrylic sheet against the glass is fixed, while the other sheet slides approximately 3/4" left/right to open/close the shutter. Moving the acrylic sheet causes its white stripes to cover the clear areas of the fixed acrylic sheet, preventing light from entering.  A plastic handle attaches to the movable acrylic sheet and rides on two screw mounted glides to move left and right.  The two acrylic sheets which form the shutter are easily removed for cleaning.

A minor interference problem was encountered, with the open/close handle not able to move fully due to the position of the RVLock.  Zarcor will modify the handle slightly to eliminate the interference issue and provide a replacement handle.  The entire installation, with video recording, took approximately one and a half hours.

We are pleased with the new window and the operable shutter.  We now have visibility through the window in the entry door and a means of controlling entry of light to the cabin.  The tinted window closely matches the other windows in the trailer.  During the day there is little or no visibility into the cabin through the new tinted glass.  At night, with lights on in the cabin, there is some visibility from the outside.  With the shutter closed there is no visibility into the trailer and nearly all light is blocked.

Although we have owned the trailer a short time, we quickly learned the textured window admitted a lot of light from the early morning sun.  It also admitted light at night from nearby campground lighting.  These problems are solved by the Clozures Shutter Blind.

The Zarcor team indicated the processing of the installation video would take a couple of weeks before it is posted to the Zarcor website.  I will post an update when the installation video is available.  Below are photos from the completed installation.
