A.Sojourner Posted September 23, 2017 Posted September 23, 2017 Today when pulling the grey water tank handle, about 12 inches of cable came out too. Has anyone had this happen? The tank is still full and hopefully Monday we can find service.
Moderators Mike and Carol Posted September 23, 2017 Moderators Posted September 23, 2017 Sounds like the cable disconnected from the gate. You can check under the dinette seat closest to the bathroom. You might be able to push the handle back in and reconnect it under the seat. Mainiac Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Did the handle pull in and out easy? If not, this might be a good time to lubricate the cable. Spray some silicone lube or graphite on the cable, before putting it back and tightening up on the attachment. (That whole valve is replaceable as a last resort, but it is more fun if the tank is empty). If the tank is full, this means it was the main dump valve. This valve is located under the left (street side) bunk or cushion, at the back of the camper. Make sure the cable is not kinked. We have seen this happen to SOB (some other brands) and usually, again usually, they are easily fixable...
KarenLukens Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 The pic shows the black valve but the grey valve is the same. You can pull up on the pin pictured to dump the tank with a pair of pliers or grab the plastic cable cover with your hand out at the dump valve compartment and pull the handle while letting the wire slide thru the cable to open the valve. Then just hold the cable cover again to close it :) 1 Happy Camping, Reed & Karen Lukens with Riffles our Miniature Poodle 2017 Oliver Legacy Elite II Standard, Hull #200 / 2017 Silverado High Country 1500 Short Bed 4x4 Past TV - 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML350 4Matic BlueTEC Diesel Click on our avatar pic above to find the videos on our Oliver Legacy Elite II
John E Davies Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 The tee handles are held onto the threaded part of the inner cable by a single 1/6" steel roll pin. The lock nut does not really have any function. My black tank pin sheared off, which is really wierd because I do not ever use it. Maybe it was damaged at the factory? No, that could never happen, LOL..... I plan to (carefully) drive out the pins on both handles and replace them with stainless steel cotter pins. Something to check while you are messing around with yours.... I would have thought the handles would thread onto the inner cables, it would be a more secure setup. John Davies Spokane WS ! mustang Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 The roll pin on the handle in the bathroom broke, I found replacement handle at campground store . Handle screwed on to treaded end of cable, no pin to brake... I plan to replace other two handles... Note ; The nut tightens to lock screew-on handle.

Moderator+ ScubaRx Posted September 24, 2017 Moderator+ Posted September 24, 2017 You can open the valve manually to dump the tank, but probably, the cable only slipped out of the valve, it is secured with a set screw. Be careful trying to remove the roll pins, I broke a handle years ago on the OOI trying to do just that. The cable will slide completely out of the housing if you want to lubricate it. A.Sojourner Posted October 3, 2017 Author Posted October 3, 2017 A (belated) THANK YOU to all who gave input! It was a thrill when we manually emptied the grey tank - which we've been doing ever since! The set screw will hold the cable in again one day, but for now, the routine is perfect. Again, thank you. :) 2
Mainiac Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Guess we will have to check and make sure we have the right set screw wrench in our tool kit. Thanks for the heads up. The plan is if we have one, we will never need one...
