Shades of Gray and Brown

Grays and browns...blah!  JMHO, but still would love to see dark blues or green.  The white could use some color.  Why is it that most RV manufacturers go with black, gray, and brown for the cushions?  Some might even choose a happy red for interior.  Again, JMHO.

Your title probably would draw more interest if it had the number 50 in it 😉.

I'm guessing that the answer to your question is multi-faceted.  Many times these things are in the eye of the beholder.  And, or course it can be argued that black, grey, and brown do not show the dirt as fast as many other colors.  However, with the Olivers it is so easy to decorate with just about any colors you want.  Even the cushions are easily changed if that is your desire.

Back in the day, when Oliver was building only 5 or 10 trailers a month, we could send any fabric we wanted to their upholsterer. I,  too, miss that custom touch of personality that the early trailers had.

My trailer sports  a midmod print in green and gold. The downside is, I  can't "change up the look" as easily as I could if I had selected a solid neutral cushion. It's been hard to find coordinating items in 60s colors.

I've been thinking about making slipcovers for the small dinette. We keep the big one made up as a bed, so it's only 4 cushions. I'm looking at some blues, these days.

I will say, Oliver has chosen some beautiful fabrics for their standard selections, much more attractive than the brown swirly prints that I see in the sticky  units we deliver to Alaska.

Maybe if enough people asked, Oliver would add some brighter hues to the fabric selections. Can't hurt to ask.

That's a really nice look, Mike. How did you attach the cornices? Are the constructed from light plywood?

Yes, they are made out of quarter inch plywood.  With the fabric and padding they are a snug fit.  I slide them down from the top.  On one of them I added a couple of command strips but the others stay put by themselves. I didn’t make them, we had them done by a local lady who works out of her garage.  She did a fine job.  Mike

Mike,  Didn’t you once mention that you made your dinette back cushions larger to accommodate converting your twin beds into a king when you traveled with your grandchildren?

Yes.  The back cushions are 6” thick and fit nicely between the mattresses on plywood pieces I made which results in a larger bed.  I did a thread on it, I think a search for “platform” or twin bed conversion will work.  We haven’t had any grandkids with us yet, but it is a nice change when we’re tired of twin beds.  Mike
