Trying to decide which to get...

I like the idea of more storage with the locked box, but having to remove the generator for every road trip is probably a pain too.   What do you prefer?

In order for us to vote you need to add a poll with two or more questions. You also need to tell us what TV you have, and it’s payload.

I'd add one more option, no basket. That's us. Everything we carry is in the truck bed or the trailer itself. Our tongue weight is pretty consistent that way.

The tow vehicle information is important.  (Another consideration  is, many people don't like to carry fuel or a genset in an suv. )

We've carried the same Yamaha 3000 watt generator over 150K miles on the front of two different Oliver's. Wouldn't have it any other way. Fuel goes into the generator tank. Fill it up when you get fuel for the truck.DSC_1095.thumb.JPG.002c9ca71788b5215ac103d273b80a10.JPG 1544955134_Steve-101-Img_1573-1.thumb.jpg.540470ce2fdc4d43df202f87907277dc.jpg

I have an aluminum box on the tongue to hold chocks, blocks, gloves, etc.  It has been very handy since it’s the first thing I open when we arrive on site.  The generator (when we take it) is in the bed of the truck.  We only use the generator to charge batteries when the solar can’t keep up so being in the bed is no big deal.  It’s also only 37 lbs so it is easy to lift.

Did you have that aluminum cover custom made?

I got the aluminum box off of Amazon.  About $100.  It carries my heavy rubber chocks, wood blocks, 20 legos, gloves, flashlight and a couple of other items.  I never lock it.  It’s held up well the past few years.  For what I use it for it’s perfect.  Mike

I shopped around and found an in the bed locking tool box that is deep enough for the Honda 2200 generator we chose.  In addition to the generator, it carries: a small tank of gasoline, small, portable LP tank (for an outside two burner stove and gas grill), the aforementioned gas grill, tools, bike tool box, folding camp table - items you like to keep secure and out of the weather.  It is deep enough to accommodate the generator and has tons of room for more "stuff".

We did not get the tongue accessory box because it would interfere with our bike rack that attaches to the pickup with a dual receiver hitch; the box would prohibit most turning situations.

My installation may not win any awards, but it has worked well for the last couple of years.  I had some of those interlocking foam mats that I cut to provide a surface under the box.  One thickness on the fiberglass area, and two thicknesses on the aluminum tongue. I got some stainless steel bolts and nuts and some rubber washers from Home Depot.  I drilled three holes through the box and the fiberglass in front of the propane tanks.  I used the Home Depot hardware to secure the box with the foam mats underneath.  It has been rock solid ever since.  I cut a piece of the foam to fit on the bottom of the box to fit over the hardware.

Here are a some pics of the holes I drilled.

Wondering which bike rack are you using and how you like it?

We have the 1UP and love it!  Extremely well built (in USA); quick and easy to load/unload.  It folds up, when not in use and drops down, with our without bikes loaded, so you can access the tailgate or back of an SUV.  The trays easily accommodate off-road tires up to 3.1" wide and my 29" Specialized Rock Hopper wheels; there are accessories to modify it for wider tires.  You can add up to two additional trays, though this would not work while towing the Ollie.  They also sell roof rack trays and trays for mounting in pickup bed or cargo area of vans/SUVs.

This is one of few racks we found that is approved for use behind an RV - we originally purchased it for our Leisure Travel Van.  Unfortunately, with the Pandemic surge in outdoor recreation equipment, there is a waiting list for these racks.
