Hi all,

We now have our deposit down!! - and are starting to look at minor customizations. So our first area to focus on is a rear table for the twin. Clearly Overland's approach to a flexible table is elegant, functional, and good looking, so I'm looking at using that as a foundation. I'm also interested in adding one more piece of functionality to literally support our two small (12lb) dogs. I'd like to use something similar for the support that Foy is using for his twin to king conversion. Something that brings enough vertical strength that would de-risk collapsing the Lagun arm or fracturing fiberglas from a wayward human. 

And once there is enough support we could use the same mattress material as those used in the beds, so that it would nearly be a functional king. 

If Foy sees this I would love to have that dialog. I know I can reach him directly, but it seemed better to launch it in the forum. - Thanks - Doug

I just realized the obvious - the table by itself isn't long enough, so there would need to be "more".

FYI:  We made a table for the Lagun mount from some available red oak we had in the woodshop.  The mount is centered on the nightstand.  The underside of the table is "grooved" and can be fitted on the bed rails so our 55lb husky, Magnus, can curl up between us at night.  It is serving us well so far - Magnus seems to like it too.

The table and mount is stored/bungie-corded on the left side closet bulkhead.

Art, very nice!  😊

Our previous owner did something similar with two pieces of ply to fill the gap.  Their wirehaired griffon slept under it, and they had a king size bed.   We haven’t used that feature yet, but another benefit is with the cushions  stacked next to the galley counter, and one of the ply segments on top, it makes a great extension to the counter top.

Our Lagun table attaches mid way down the street side bunk (we have basement access), and stores out of the way in the closet.

Thanks for the offer! I think I've got some more thinking to do though. I guess my first question is "do you use it"?  So you use the Lagun table from midway. Does that bring any advantage that you were looking for? Doesn't it get in the way of your (or someone else's)  legs?

We mostly use the Lagun for additional counter space or games, and it doesn’t get used a lot.  I may buy a second mount, and use it in my All Terrain (ATC) pop up truck camper shell model.

I find the Lagun most useful as a bed table, especially in the morning to accommodate an iPad and coffee while sitting up against the rear wall, as well as the evening in similar manner. I can also use it at the other end when watching TV. Of course the table serves other purposes, as you mention, and thus its’ versatility and usefulness justifies leaving it up full time. Currently in the process of mounting a second for the wife’s bed.

That's really interesting. Are you shifting the mounting locations? I notice that you had it at the nightstand middle at one time?

Kinda, removed the original Lagun plate that Oliver installed on the nightstand, and used it with a dynamic system I designed and built. I field tested an initial prototype with much success a few months ago. However, further iterations needed to address some inherent design flaws have taken the months since. I am now ready to perform a stress test on the system, followed by more field tests for functionally and safe usage. The only other information willing to share at this time is that the nightstand drawer is no longer obstructed.

I may have some hole plugs that will fit the screw/bolt mounting holes from the original Lagun base plate if you haven’t already done that.  Let me know the size you need and I’ll see what I have left.

Sounds like a serious plan with a lot of mobile site testing needed.

Well, I tend to over-think and over-engineer everything, drives my wife nuts! Not that “serious”, but if I told someone my motto was “I strive for perfection to achieve satisfaction”, maybe they would understand! As for testing, I can only do so much in the driveway; need to travel and camp to see how all performs, or is that just an excuse to pack up and get away? This would be a ‘one trip wonder’ to see if I’m ‘there yet’. More to come, hopefully sooner than later.

I took notice of your steel reinforcement of the  fiberglass bed edge.  My experience with loading them with between bed platforms and existing cushions was that they are really strong.  Just wondering what lead you to that mod?

Actually, aluminum bar was used; lighter weight and can be worked much like wood. Although the fiberglass bed edge worked, as evidenced by the first set of pics (above) with the original ‘black’ tabletop, it proved to be too weak (think flex and stress) when the table was fully extended over the bed. However, with said weaknesses and inconsistencies found when trying to fit the street side bed, yet another of many iterations in this project was implemented.
