The short answer to your first question is no, your inverter will not supplement shore power with battery power. As to your second question, the answer is that there’s no distinction between power coming from your solar panels and power coming from your batteries. It’s all part of the same pool of electrons. Think of the 12 volt system like water, with the batteries being a big bucket, and solar and charger power being faucets that you can turn on to fill it. If you want a glass of water you could dip it into the bucket or you could hold it under one of the faucets or do both - it’s all water.

Greetings all! While not an Ollie owner yet, they have my deposit, and I expect to have a Legacy Elite next June. All I have to do now is nail down the options I think I want; get the Truma or go with the standard 6 gal heater? And what decor package? Decisions, decisions. I'd also like a custom logo on the front ... all I have to do is design one! HA HA. I have a Casita at the moment, which I bought so I wouldn't have to sleep in a mountaineering tent any more, but it will be going to another good home soon. My experience with these trailers is nil next to some of yours, but I lurk a lot and will hopefully learn something ... you know what they say about old dogs and new tricks. My early goal was primarily boondocking, and I still intend to do mostly that, but an occasional campground with full hook-ups and a shower wouldn't be entirely awful. I read about the potential western rally next year and I'm in! I would really enjoy meeting you all and soaking in some of the knowledge and ideas you've used in your Oliver travels. No, the Zamp controller does not have an independent Load output feature, which yes does reduce the battery charging output. However, controllers with this feature typically switch and/or regulate the Load output to prioritize battery charging so the independent load cannot overwhelm the controller's ability to first maintain the batteries.

Susan, the longer answer to your first question is that some hybrid inverter chargers will let you do exactly what you’re asking. The Victron MultiPlus is the most well known example of that. It can do it on the fly as needed or you can tell it to only draw so many amps from shore power and to get the rest from your batteries, which is really useful if you only have a 20 amp connection at home. I had thought that the Xantrex unit that Oliver is installing as part of their LFP kit does the same; but looking at the specs, I don’t think it does. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t see it.

Honestly, I have never seen a pick up in a weigh station. The normal requirements are a commercial vehicle with a gross weight over 10,000# or a combined truck and trailer weight over 25,000#.

Mike - The Wet Mtn Valley is south central Colorado. If you've ever been to the Great Sand Dunes NP, the valley is just over the Sangre de Cristo mountains that form the eastern boundary of the dunes. The major town in the valley, if you call ~800 permanent residents "major", is Westcliffe, and I live a few miles outside of town. This is the view from my deck. The sand dunes are on the other side of those mountains, kinda to the left. If you ever make it up this way, please let me know. Hope we'll cross paths in the coming year. Mike

I'm looking forward to seeing this. America's number one truck, electric! The front end photo is a little Rivianish, unsurprisingly. But, it will be an undisputed Ford design. For people like me, primarily local driving/work truck, I'm sure it will be excellent, based on the new hybrid capabilities. We'll wait and see about the towing. The mandated Electrify America project should help, but without Tesla's extensive network, it's still a question. Sherry

Technomadia's latest youtube popped up on my phone yesterday, discussing the flaws in their Travato. The ac (a Coleman Mach 10, old style) and its noise level and flimsy vents were some of their dislikes. Cheri mentioned both the new Coleman Mach 10 NDQ (NON DUCTED QUIET) and the Houghton unit from Advanced RV as possible replacements, noting the extremely high price of the Quiet AC from Advanced. I remembered this youtube from James at Fit RV, measuring the db from his Dometic Penguin, then the Coleman NDQ. Northern Tool stores in my area have the Honda in stock. Free shipping lower 48, I think. You might try them. I don't think they have any stores in your area. Costco.com still has the powered by Yamaha ai , 52db ar 1/4 load, with many of the Yamaha features. With Costco's great return policy, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try, personally.
