We looked at a number of models, for our failed 2008 convection. Weighing replacing the failed microwave , which we only used a few times, we decided on a useful cabinet. Everything we looked at, in convection, required more depth than we had available. But, our trailer is now 11 years old.. ... Since we used the microwave maybe twice, or three times, in ten years, mostly for tests, I'm not the best resource. Really happy with a big cabinet in place of the useless microwave.... as we almost never camp with electrical hookups... Sherry .

Split: BATTERY DILEMMA…. SPAM REPORTING
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Apparently, Mike and I were working at the same time... I removed the entire post. Thanks for posting the warning, John. A reminder to everyone. If you see a post that looks like spam, hit that little gray "report" word at the bottom of the post. A message goes out immediately to all the mods and administrators . If you add a warning post as John did, that can help others before we get to the post. I don't know what triggered Johns suspicion, but it was a classic spam post. Brand new member posting a link.... not truly related to the topic... For those of you have never noticed it, this is the report button. Sherry -
Your furnace is under warranty. Dont bypass the sail switch...it's there for a reason. Though the new models seem to be pretty sensitive. I'd suggest you get a cube heater that you can run off that gen... What a Christmas to remember. Sorry for all your troubles, though im sure they'll make for good stories in the years to come....

If your furnace is shutting off because if low battery, you are running the risk of shortening the battery life. If you're running the furnace a lot, and not getting a lot of sun, try running your generator an hour or two in the morning, and an hour or two in the afternoon if you're not topping out with your solar. Looking at the weather for Bend the last few days, I doubt you're getting a lot of solar power... Our furnace fan slows a little as the battery capacity drops, but it doesn't cut out til 10.6 or so, well below 50 per cent. The fridge won't work, either. They're built in safety features, but, that's still really low, and a number of days on end , depleting your power, will eventually shorten your battery life.. Cold weather boondocking is certainly challenging. Stay warm. We usually turn the furnace way down at night, and pile on a good warm comforter. I also like flannel sheets for winter camping. We try to keep the trailer somewhere in the 50s at night. Easy enough to reach over and crank up the furnace in the morning, before getting completely out of the nice warm bed.

Well, this will certainly be a Christmas to remember. Looks like you've made new friends at jerrys rv.

Merry Christmas. It's been a beautiful day in Florida.

We havs run a honda 1000 as backup to solar for ten years without incident. We don't have your progressive dynamic system . Btw, All the plug you're looking for does is trick your progressive dynamic system into thinking you have a ground. I suspect your code, if you look it up, is open ground, which is normal for a generator power source... I wouldn't bypass the system for a code from a campground pieer supply, but im sure Steve has given sound advice.

If you're reading 11.9, you need to set up your generator and recharge. I try to keep our batteries no lower than 12.4. It will probably only take an hour to get you to 12.4, maybe two to get you to 12.6. If you only have the seelevel panel to guage by, understand that you're showing a little lower than you really are while the battery is under load, and will show 13.2 or 13.4 while you are plugged in, because it's reading the charging voltage coming in, not your actual state of charge. You won't see your actual state of charge for 30 to 50 minutes after you shut down the generator.... Charging to a full 12.7 or 12.9 will probably take 6 or 7 hours, and it's not necessary . As you approach a full charge, your charger ramps down the amount of charge going to your battery, for safety. At first, you get the high charge ( bulk charging) state, and goes very fast. As you approach a full state, the absorption charge is much slower and smaller. From 12.7 to 12.9 can take hours. Then, float kicks in, just to maintain full... Btw, which batteries do you have? Agm, or flooded? 6 v or 12v? There's a slight difference in what to expect for readings. The seelevel isn't all that accurate, anyway, as its sensitive to load/ no load, resting/ not resting, but it does help you to keep your battery in a healthy state... no letting it drop too low and kill the battery. .

Buying a new vehicle, will a 4Runner V6 work for an Elite
SeaDawg replied to jrpruitt's topic in Towing an Oliver
Our dog sleeps on her bed, on one of the small dinette cushions. If your dogs are too big for the dinette, you could drop the table at night, and make the small dinette into a sleep sofa for two medium dogs. -
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

For anyone still shopping, Spot locator had a 50% off Chrismas sale on two models. (Rebate required) https://www.findmespot.com/Holiday50/lander.php?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Paid_Social&utm_campaign=BB_SPOT_Holiday2018&utm_term=low_funnel&utm_content=14_day -
Good suggestion. We always have some type of padding available in the truck bed.. Btw, did you know that trumpetguy sold his trailer at least a year or two ago? Just an fyi...I know it's not easy to see on the forum. Sherry

Davy Crockett is beautiful! And so is your new Ollie! Congrats, #412, and have a wonderful time. Hope you have as much fun as we have had in #12... Sherry

<p style="text-align: left;">We're staying home. Had early Christmas visits from part of our family, and that was wonderful. Went to the Home Free acapella concert in Tampa last week... lighted boat parade in Clearwater last weekend... I love the Christmas season.</p>

Got a text from our neighbor at our camping property outside Asheville. 14 inches so far, 8 more to come. With ice. Please be careful out there, and stay home if you can... Sherry

If you look on the boating forums, there are a lot of alternatives... dridek, hypervent, foli system, ikea slats, aire-flow. (Much like hypervent)..... Each of the products work by channeling moisture to the deck. But, just as in our boat, that moisture has to be given a path to evaporate. For us, it's pulling cushions away from the hull a bit. For mattresses, its a bit more work... We still use cushions, not a mattress, and the fabric cover is water repellent, so I've never actually experienced a wet cushion... when we store the ollie, i always raise some cushions on their sides, balance others, and leave air flow. All i use for a base is a very good, bumpy, shelf liner...when we are camping. It's different for everyone, based on how much humidity you and the climate generate. We spend, usually, , nine hours a day inside. I make coffee, and sometimes breakfast, inside, but rarely generate a lot of moisture. It's mostly us, the 9 lb dog, and a tea kettle. Even if you get dridek, hypervent, or the ilk, you'll need to give the the moisture a path to evaporate. IE, pick up the cushion or mattress, and give some breathing room, once in awhile... if you are generating a lot of moisture, or camping in severe weather. Daily, weekly, depends on what you find...in local conditions. Sherry

Wishing you many miles of smiles with your new ollie. Our daughter is in Charlotte tonight for a company meeting. She loves Charlotte. We've never spent time there... guess we should... If you could attend the spring rally, or visit with another ollie owner in a more relaxed situation, it may help with the learning curve. It's a bit more elaborate than the tent, as you know... We've loved our ollie for almost 11 years. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours... Sherry

I saw bee's red trailer, and the black one , back in 2008. Very cool. If you decide to paint yours, post photos. We'd love to see your results... Sherry

I do think it's time for an all electric truck. I personally think it will come from Tesla in the next three years. They are the only company so far with the infrastructure to make the investment sensible. At least, I hope so. I'd really like to drive one .. Sherry
-
John davies, i think that makes sense. With a well loved 2005, I'm in no rush... only 130 k miles on my Silverado. I may have to replace the driver side seat foam, but... i love my little stepside truck.. I can wait .... at least another few years. Sherry
-
While I wait for the Tesla pickup truck, I'm loving the new jeep gladiator. My neighbor (jeep wrangler) and I ( stepside Silverado) both love it, but bemoan the idea of trading out our well loved legacy vehicles... we studied the web sites and reviews today. So darn cool... still some time away, so i can spend another year loving the Silverado.... at least. Sherry

I agree that the blue sky monitor is less than perfect, but pretty darn good. It does require input, as do all better battery monitors. We saw a new, and quite nice, battery monitor at the boat show today.. balmar gs200. Includes blue tooth. But... not really set up for solar, yet, so we would have to wait a bit, for that. It won best of show at ibex , but, we're finally adding solar to the boat soon. We will likely go with the blue sky we already know ... their customer service is just amazing, and product is really durable. Ten years plus... for us Sherry

Cherie and Chris were among the first to see our early Oliver. Paul and Chris and Cherie actually took our trailer on a 30 or 40 mile test tow on their jeep... then, we just hung out under the trees, and talked about camping, life, trailers, and breweries. And various other topics... They are super smart and super fun people. One of these days, I hope our paths will cross again. Sherry

and, all around the town, we're barraged with gift ideas... With my daughter's help, Paul got me a Dyson v6 car and boat vacuum, to replace the black and decker. Black friday great price, about half. Great little machine... no, its not a surprise, but thats ok. I'm really happy to have a machine that will remove our little dog's hair, that runs on battery. I swear she sheds and grows a new coat monthly...</p> I dont really have much on my list, but thought this might be a place to share ideas? Harvest Hosts is raising its price next year from $49 a year to $79. If you like the idea of camping at vineyards , farms, and museums, for free, consider that gift. If you go in under technomadias fb post, you can save another 4 or 5 $... roughly 600 sites around the country for self contained campers, one night only. One item i use a lot is my tea kettle. Its rusting, but i think my daughter is replacing it. I know i posted it before, but good sam roadside has a great deal for new members. If everything here seems too practical, sorry. Its kind of what we do, at our house... Wants and/or needs? Last year was big for me. I got my new all electric dc truckfridge... plus the microwave cabinet, plus a drawer. All oc which, i love, though the install finished in February... lol. Sherry

I am really excited to see that Technomadia (Chris and Cherie) will be hosting part of a new rv series on PBS, The RVers, Loving snd Living. Their segments will focus on RV tech.</p> Though no longer Oliver owners, they're still eorking technical nomads... fulltiming this year on their boat, but also found traveling in their vintage bus. They've provided a lot of people with great info, and their original solar setup for an Elite is still used by a number if people... including us. You'll also be able to watch their segments on Amazon, itunes, and a few other venues. Always generous with their time and knowledge, this is yet another unpaid labor of love for the RV comminity from Technomadia... Technomadia.com Our best wishes to them! Sherry and Paul
