One of my several mother's day presents was this ultimately portable, tiny burner for the Coleman type isobutane canister from etekcity. I've used it roughly 40 times now to make coffee, soup, or dinner, and it's pretty awesome for the size and price. Extremely light and compact, but flame is very adjustable. I had some doubts about the piezo, since it sits in the flame and gets very hot, but it's still working, too. Paired with gsi dualist 1.8 liter pan, works great for me. A basically two for one on Amazon now, $15 for two. May not be a forever item, but mostly stainless.

We just got back from four weeks in almost paradise. Fifteen years ago, there was zero trash in our path. This time, I was picking up a lot. Iceland is overrun with tourists, and people who rent campervans who have never actually camped before . The same crap I find in campsites in the US, sadly, I found in previously pristine Iceland . Bits of plastic, breadties, an occasional shoe. Plastic shopping bags. Cigarette butts. How do we control this? This applies to us, too. First of all, control your own. Don't throw just a bit in a dumpster. Put everything in a ( preferably) paper bag, and make some weight, so the dump truck doesn't spew your well intentioned trash into the wind. Recycle everything you can, even if it means carrying those bottles and cans another 200 miles... Pick up your own bits, and those of others. Be a good scout. And, don't put bits in your warming pocket. They'll fly out in a tiny bit of wind when you reach into that pocket. Ditto on using the side pocket of the vehicle door. In a good wind, will trash fly? Here, I know I'm preaching to the choir. This is a group of careful people. I'm just so saddened every time I camp, and find trash in my campsite and campground. Sherry

Larry and Betty, thanks for yet another invite we can't do. Your lake ouchita fish fries ( and fishing methods) are legend. Hope you have an awesome time. We're thinking of you both. Sherry and Paul

Extra cushions to form rear couch in a 17 1/2 footer?
SeaDawg replied to Bshaffer's topic in General Discussion
Bill, that's a very good suggestion. And he does quality work. Brandi, the only early Oliver I've seen with a sofa was the Whaley Oliver. They accomplished it by having an extra set of cushions made for the small front dinette. I'll see if I can find a photo for you. Sherry -
Legacy Elite II Dometic RM2454 refer
SeaDawg replied to raptor's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
That's a beautiful install. Glad you're getting good results. We've rented campervans with the swingarm compressors, and were very impressed with their performance and efficiency, even without solar. When the dometic quits, we'll be doing the same. Sherry -
Bacon. Idaho Who could ask for anything more! We love what little we've seen of Idaho. Wild, rugged, beautiful.. Another trip... Sherry

New owners: how is the Quality Control of your rig? Grade it!
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in General Discussion
Awesome. 2 elite 1, 2 elite 2 that I know of. I'd, personally, advise the inexperienced to survey the Ouray road carefully, or drive it first with tug alone. Paul's great, and has done amazing drives in what I'd call goat paths, here and abroad. I'm with Tali... White knuckles, and in prayer. Our daughter regaled us with a story of one of our vacation drives at dinner tonight, describing how she shifted her weight to inboard on a steep mountain road in Norway, when Paul had to back down a mile and a half or so through changing radius curves, no guard rail????. Single lane to a pullout, to let the larger vehicle we (surprise!), met on that goat path. Gotta love it.... Proud of all you guys, and your skills. Sherry -
So, it's not news that Gander Mountain and it's marine store, overtons filed for bankruptcy protection last year. The interesting news is that Camping world bought the name and assets this week. (No, your gander mountain gift cards still won't work. They didn't purchase the liabilities.) I'm unsure why they bought these primarily small mall locations, and now say they'll sell off the inventory, right size, and keep some of the stores. Maybe buying their internet presence at a bargain price? Camping world just keeps on growing. As does Dometic. Makes me appreciate the little guys even more. Sherry

John, glad you love your Oliver. I suspected you would. With your background, and camping experience, you'll likely help take Oliver to yet another level. I have a friend who is an aircraft mechanic. You have to be anal. It's critical..for the lives of those onboard. So, you took your Oliver on the Ouray? On the way home, maiden voyage. Pretty safe bet, no one else has done that. Nor would I recommend it to many. You have the experience. Most don't. I only know two others that have done that road while towing, and that was with the smaller trailer like ours. I'm sure you'll get the details ironed out. Oliver support has been awesome for us, and these days, I don't even really know most of the people there, personally. But, when I call, it's like we've known them for years. Congrats on a successful and very challenging route test drive home. We do hope to cross paths one of these days. Sherry -
Thanks. We appreciate the explanation, and regaining the sidebar menu. I normally use the padlock icon to log in/ log out. Traveling through the entire left-hand side menu for everything, was a huge pain. I also understood from Matt's pm that this was a step toward a more phone/ tablet friendly interface. That will be welcomed by many of us. Again, thanks. Sherry

Your sliders are mirrored? I didn't remember that. Most of our 2008 editions have smoked Plexi doors. The mirrors should really brighten up the interior. Sherry

Just tried it on my phone. Terrible access, imo. If I were a newbie, looking for a new trailer/RV, I'd probably give up before I got here I already have my well loved Oliver. I'll figure it out. Better user interface needed Just my opinion. For those of you on desktop/ laptops/ notebooks, had anything changed for you? Sherry

Just slide them extreme right and left so the grommets meet. Has worked for us for almost 100000 miles. The rubber fingerhold grommets create a friction area. You will have an inch or so of cabinetry on the outside edges. Never an issue for us. Sherry I mean, slide the doors till the grommets overlap..

We came home from a week trip, and i couldn't find the login. Okay, finally found it, at the very bottom of the factory dropdown.... Then, the dropdown takes me thru the entire website, where, near the botttom, i can log in, or choose forums, recent activity, etc... Recent activity takes me to the dreaded activity wall... Instead of recent posts. There appears to be no recent post choice, anymore, just recent topics. Frankly, it would be really nice if these changes were announced. Ahead of time. Or, did i miss something???? Right now, i dont know how a new member could join the forum. Much less, those who travel with phone and tablet can stay within our usual perameters. I'm just saying, if a nine year member amd moderator is frustrated after logging out, and trying to log back in, and living like most of us, on phone and tablet..... What does this mean for the rest of the world? Hmmmmm? If you have to hunt too long, you will give up. Just saying. Sherry Posting on android tmobile tablet. Phone too slow.(verizon turbo 2 motorola... Both on fios home wifi)

Refrigerator Boondocking Vent Mod

That's an interesting scenario.. Does the fan give you an advantage elsewhere? We have no fan in the 2008. Sherry -
Looking for parts- electrical door, bathroom vents, etc
SeaDawg replied to Bshaffer's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Brandi, I'm pretty sure Oliver used the Ventline round 12v vent on our trailers. Chances are, they still use the same one. I'd call Tuesday to verify, but I believe it's this one https://www.etrailer.com/RV-Vents-and-Fans/Ventline/VP-543SP.html?feed=npn&gclid=CjwKEAjwja_JBRD8idHpxaz0t3wSJAB4rXW5ii-OICIDxEW7I3BiMrkXCj_gsENfUfUU3xSTEuJ9phoCrVrw_wcB They also carry a replacement cap, only, for around $5. The pull down handle on ours broke a few years ago. Oliver replaced the whole unit on one of our factory visits.... Etrailer also carries a locking plastic shore power door that looks similar to ours. You'll want to check the measurements to be sure. Again, I'd check with Oliver tomorrow. They might have both pieces in stock, even though they've changed up the shore power connection to move the furnace location. Sherry -
Refrigerator vent cover fasteners
SeaDawg replied to charliep's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I don't know how old your trailer is. In our case, at over nine years, , no one covers anything... With the exception of camco. For anyone who might still be under manufacturer component warranty, check first. It may save you some money. We found a few systems had a two year warranty beyond factory. Best, Sherry -

Our 40 year old fiberglass sailboat, and our nine year old Oliver, are exposed to the Florida sun ( or sun somewhere...) 24/7/365. Both still look great. Quality gel coat. We do clean and wax both the trailer and the boats, twice a year, with quality marine grade products. I think you could skip the retractable awning. Fwiw, I bought a cover the first year ( relatively inexpensive van cover) and it's still in the bag, unused. If you can park the trailer next to the garage, you'll get some shade part of the day, when it's in storage. Then, it's up to the wax and your maintenance schedule to protect the finish. Sherry

You bought a unique piece of fiberglass and Oliver history. Your camper was one of the earliest show models. The black one had Vegas style upholstery. Cute, but probably not great fabric. Back in the day, customers could ship any fabric they wanted, and Oliver's upholsterer would work with it. Not very economical, really. However, I suspect the first owner of your trailer wanted something to his/ her taste, even if it didn't match the trailer color. Or, had a local recover the first set, as, again, not to his/her taste. We were the first (hull #12) to ask for an upgraded more supportive foam. The first few trailers had a foam that was lower density, kind of bottomed out if you weighed more than 150 pounds. Oliver made our foam choice standard after seeing ours made up. Since you were planning to make new covers, anyway, (and you do beautiful work!), can you work with the foam, or do you need to replace it, as well? Maybe, the ugly covers got you better foam? Or not... Just curious. Btw, we leave the back dinette set up as a bed, all the time. Fwiw, I'd get a 2/3, 1/3 mattress if and when we ever replace the large dinette cushions. But, that's just us. We only use the small dinette for seating. Congrats again. I swooned over your trailer nine and a half years ago. Still do. It's so unique, and cute. Sherry
