Cottonwood Lake USFS campground on Cottonwood Pass, near Buena Vista, Co

3.5 miles of miserable washboard dirt road , nice campground, no water available as the well has been broken over 5 years with no plan to repair 🤔

 

 

campground is all FCFS and fills up Friday mornings 

too much dust with folks driving 25 mph in a 5 mph campground

I'd bet that you are no longer in the Leadville area - but - there is a coffee shop directly across the street from City Hall that has very good pastries and coffee.  Plus, they have free WiFi.

we are no longer in Leadville, but we did have a great Pizza at “High Mountain Pies”

we hiked some Crested Butte and Gothic Colorado trails today and the mountain flowers are just starting to bloom,

July is the big blooming season they say

Crested Butte is the Saint Moritiz of Colorado

This is in the beautiful US Choctaw Lake NF campground, located in central Mississippi. It is full of songbirds, lush and lovely.

Reset 2.0 (Hull 1364) just spent its first night (with us) in Utah. The Flaming Gorge area is absolutely beautiful.

This trips pass list so far includes:
Raton Pass (NM) 7,834 ft
Monarch Pass (CO) 11,312 ft
Douglas Pass (CO) 8,205 ft

Last year I visited Horse Creek Campground in Wyoming. 

If you are really adventurous you can continue north all the way to Double Cabin Campground. It's beautiful there, but I didn't tow my Oliver that far; it's a long rough road.

there are fish in Horse Creek - most are 10 to 12 inches but a very good friend of mine can attest to a 17 inch brown that was a bank feeder is there to be enjoyed.

On the "interesting" side - be careful to watch for bears.  This same friend came back from there one year and said to his wife, "I'm going to need a bigger gun!".

In my opinion - sites 2 and 3 are the best sites.

No electricity or dump here but there is water available via a hand pump.

That is kept very clean by camp hosts from Missouri.  It is also the only pit toilet I've ever been in that has a separate chair and small rug that can be used for changing cloths, holding a bag (so you don't have to put it on the floor, holding a jacket and/or other stuff.  Hopefully those camp hosts are still there.

Been camping this week at Mt. Pisgah Campground NC @ 5,000' on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Some mornings were in the 50s and highs 60s to 70s. Their campsites do not have water or electricity, with the Federal Senior card $15 per night.  They have hot showers. When it's hot and humid in the lower elevations, we head to Mt. Pisgah campground to cool off without using AC system. There are plenty of places to hike and a drive on the BRP is always nice, too.

Also across northern Texas, Oklahoma and environs this morning. I'm hitched, but stalling my departure until it passes.

On my first night in my Oliver, I was planning to camp in a very nice park in Tennessee -- but on advice of Rodney Lomax, I stayed the night at the Oliver factory campground where there were a lot fewer trees to come down, and hitched the Oliver to my truck to help stabilize it. It was a real blow and a good lesson.
