MAX Burner Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I got this idea from a social media posting, but here's a quick mod that makes the "secret compartment" below the Pantry easier to access: 1. Pulled off VELCRO from cabinet. 2. Installed a couple 8" drawer slides from Amazon: 3. Replaced the VELCRO onto the drawer slides: 4. One and done, can't even tell the difference; except for the convenience factor - time for a cold one. Cheers! A & D 12 Art, Diane, Magnus & Oscar (double-Aaarrf!) The glides are soft-close style with a detent in the retracted position, just like the Oliver kitchen drawers... Wow, very good idea and start-to-finish in 24 hours is impressive! Just put these slides on my Amazon Wishlist (for after we get a handle on the big jobs, on our very new-to-us Oliver). MAX Burner Posted August 2, 2023 Author Posted August 2, 2023 ...follow-up info: @Gliddenwoods: We installed that mod 3 days before leaving on the road trip we're currently on now. After the first leg, about 275 miles, checking the pantry compartment sliding top a few times - no issues. The "soft-close" slides hold fast. Art, Diane, Magnus & Oscar (double-Aaarrf!) NandNPNW Posted September 30, 2023 Posted September 30, 2023 We did this mod without knowing it was already posted! Our exception was utilizing 12lb double sided tape and black 10" locking drawer slides. The tape (from local ACE Hardware) was the thinnest we could find in the weight capacity I was looking for. It's installed on both the slide base and the bottom of the countertop. I was concerned about it floating too high above the base but it closes up nicely and is not noticeable. Not concerned about pulling them off as all the force is lateral and not expecting any weight bearing for the tabletop once slid out. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GJMLDPL?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 1 4 #266
jd1923 Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Bravo @NandNPNW for installing this without drilling mounting holes! This is great. The Ace Hardware product is likely good, I loved Ace in the day, back in Chicagoland, where Ace started! Next time, or if your install loosens up, go with 3M 4950 VHB tape. Instead of 12 LB you get 80 LB / SQ IN, so you could lean on the counter fully extended to get off the floor, been there Ha-Ha. This product is amazing! I'm an engineer and over-engineer about everything! I used to bolt down everything, but not anymore. I used this product to mount 2 large heavy solar panels on a fiberglass roof with only 20 SQ IN of tape each. This is an amazing product! John and Jodi Posted yesterday at 12:22 AM Posted yesterday at 12:22 AM I'm glad a lot of people have had success with this mod, but we haven't. One variable that seems to be different is that we have Foy's extended pantry countertop. I don't know if it's heavier or what, but every time I take the trailer somewhere, the countertop slides open; it doesn't stay closed. Now I have to use a hook-and-eye fastener to secure the countertop since un-doing the mod is not an option. 1 John and Jodi San Antonio, TX 2022 Elite II - Hull #1126 being pulled by a 2022 F-150 Powerboost. Galileo Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago We actually like the Velcro. I don’t know if others had this small storage area shown to them as a “secret compartment” - but I think the Velcro is more apt to keep it that way. Anyway - we go in that compartment so seldom that there’s not a huge convenience or time saving benefit for us. I’m also fond of leaning on that surface or putting quite a bit of body weight on it while extricating myself from the (king layout) bed. So making it readily movable will make it easy to bend those slides at least, and likely to send me crashing to the floor in the middle of the night at worst. 1 1 2022 Oliver Legacy Elite II Hull #1029 King Bed Floorplan electronics package Truma Aqua-Go LOUD Dometic Penguin A/C LevelMate Pro+ Valterra Electric Black Tank Dump Valve TV - 2025 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, 3.0l Duramax Diesel, Crew Cab 4WD (17.9mpg towing, 35mpg clean) RealTruck hard tonneau cover Rove R2-4K DashCams Canada: New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island
Ronbrink Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) 21 hours ago, Galileo said: We actually like the Velcro. Same here! My pantry shelf mod involved extending it out to make it even with the adjacent twin bed with heavy duty Velcro for securement. The additional length provides more counter space/staging area. I also extended the dinette table an additional 7” for an equivalent bump out; making its utility for dining much better. I previously installed sliding Lagun tables for each of the twin beds and used the original Lagun tabletop for the pantry extension, likewise the original pantry shelf for the dinette table extension. We’ve been very pleased with these mods. Here’s a pic of the two Lagun tables, a much more challenging mod I must say! For those that have the Lagun option, you know the nightstand drawer is restricted when this table is in use. In my year model the nightstand tabletop can be lifted off, allowing access to the drawer content from atop; which was acceptable, since I preferred the leave the Lagun mounted for daily use and stowing it was a PITA. By design, I can now open the drawer even with both Laguns permanently mounted; and the wifey is now happy to have her own bed table, being I tended to ‘hog’ the original one for self use! There have been a few mods featured in this forum on relocating the Lagun mount to the side of the nightstand to enable front drawer access and my mod, as well.
