Slide-out Pantry Shelf - No More Fighting the VELCRO!

MAX Burner

Recommended Posts

I got this idea from a social media posting, but here's a quick mod that makes the "secret compartment" below the Pantry easier to access:

1.  Pulled off VELCRO from cabinet.

2.  Installed a couple 8" drawer slides from Amazon:

3.  Replaced the VELCRO onto the drawer slides:

4.  One and done, can't even tell the difference; except for the convenience factor - time for a cold one.

Cheers!

The glides are soft-close style with a detent in the retracted position, just like the Oliver kitchen drawers...

We ordered the slides yesterday, they arrived here this morning, it's an easy/quick DIY mod for less than $12:

Wow, very good idea and start-to-finish in 24 hours is impressive! Just put these slides on my Amazon Wishlist (for after we get a handle on the big jobs, on our very new-to-us Oliver). Thanks, Art & Diane!

...follow-up info:  @Gliddenwoods:  We installed that mod 3 days before leaving on the road trip we're currently on now.  After the first leg, about 275 miles, checking the pantry compartment sliding top a few times - no issues.  The "soft-close" slides hold fast.

We did this mod without knowing it was already posted! Our exception was utilizing 12lb double sided tape and black 10" locking drawer slides. The tape (from local ACE Hardware) was the thinnest we could find in the weight capacity I was looking for. It's installed on both the slide base and the bottom of the countertop. I was concerned about it floating too high above the base but it closes up nicely and is not noticeable. Not concerned about pulling them off as all the force is lateral and not expecting any weight bearing for the tabletop once slid out.

Bravo @NandNPNW for installing this without drilling mounting holes! This is great.

The Ace Hardware product is likely good, I loved Ace in the day, back in Chicagoland, where Ace started! Next time, or if your install loosens up, go with 3M 4950 VHB tape. Instead of 12 LB you get 80 LB / SQ IN, so you could lean on the counter fully extended to get off the floor, been there Ha-Ha.

This product is amazing! I'm an engineer and over-engineer about everything! I used to bolt down everything, but not anymore. I used this product to mount 2 large heavy solar panels on a fiberglass roof with only 20 SQ IN of tape each. This is an amazing product! Amazon.com: 3M Double Sided Mounting Tape 1” x 120” 4950 Foam Tape Heavy Duty Adhesive Waterproof for Car Home Office Deco Color White : Office Products
