Looking closer at my rollout battery tray I began to see a couple of things I don't like. BTW, I have the (4) T-105 battery option. First is the catch mechanism. It has about 3/4" of play that allows the batteries to roll out and in just enough to hammer the catch while driving. Second is that the batteries pinch the wires against the back of the battery cabinet. With the wires crossed back there, there will be a short eventually. I fixed this with a 5/8' thick piece of wood dropped in front of the catch to take up the play. It's about 3" X 15 3/4" and fits nicely. Then I slid some split loom over the wires and routed them over the top of the batteries as I pushed the tray back in. This should make the battery box much safer and less likely to break the catch. Check yours out to make sure it's OK.2 points

Well I couldn't stand it any longer and painted my window shades bright white. My understanding is that the window shades are not available from the manufacture in white so Although not a quick fix mine are now bright white. The plastic and my Krylon Supermax paint for plastic didn't get along real well with some of the shades even after cleaning them with a degreaser. I then tried some of an old stand by Krylon Fusion, I had a limited supply of it in a flat white so used it as a primer then second coated it with the Supermax I'm not sure why this worked but it did and the results are fantastic. There is a lot longer story on this modification for anyone wanting to do it so I won't bore the masses but would have the full story for those interested. Marc1 point

Here's the link to Pete's installation, with pics: http://olivertraveltrailers.com/topic/alternative-sewer-hose-system/ I've never had the system get plugged other than the grey water bypass described above.1 point

When traveling with my Ollie, I like to attend special events. On August 21, 2017 another event will be occurring that should last approximately 2.5 minutes. A solar eclipse will occur and according to NASA, the “Sweet Spot” or optimal eclipse effect will occur near Hopkinsville, Kentucky. The land Between the Lakes National Recreational Area is only a few miles away and should offer an excellent location for viewing the eclipse and camping. Solar eclipses are a sight to beheld but caution should be used to utilize appropriate eye protection. Here is a website with location information. http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEgoogle/SEgoogle2001/SE2017Aug21Tgoogle.html As another example of my interest to attend special events, I planned a trip in 2016 to watch the “Blood Moon”. I wanted to go somewhere the scenery would be great to frame the Blood Moon as it came over the horizon. I wanted to travel Route 66 and I thought that Monument Valley would be a great side trip that would provide excellent lighting and scenery. There are a number of holes in rock formations that afford picturesque shots of the sky. These are a part of the Navajo Indian tours offered to the public. However, I learned that these sites are considered sacred and that night special ceremonies were planned and not open to the public. I situated myself near the Park Welcome Center a few feet from the Monument Valley RV Campground. Below are some pictures of the moon as it rose between two monuments. As the moon came over the horizon, it was at its height in red color. After a few minutes, it faded to a natural white. click on the images below and they will enlarge1 point

I haven't had the need to refurbish mine and it's been operating nicely since 2009. But then, A-10 drivers are a little 'slow' on the uptake (the A-10 was so slow that the engineers took out the clock and replaced it with a calendar) and Pete missed the part about not putting hard objects down the potty. I believe at this point that if I had troubles with the macerator I'd just replace it. Refurbishing it would probably require wearing a full biohazard suit. I do pack along a stinky slinky, still in the box, "just in case". The only trouble I've had was with the grey water bypass getting clogged with "stuff" when running the pump. I fixed that by installing a small ball valve in the bypass line and I leave it closed (especially when pumping) unless I specifically want to use the bypass. As much as it pains me to admit it, Pete did a good job of engineering the installation and I merely copied it. Obviously, I have NO pride.1 point

Marc you are probably taking the pictures with a Mac, iPad or similar device. You may be left handed and turn the device upside down from a right handed person. try using the right hand approach to push the shutter button. It should then appear right side up coy1 point

John, I managed to get rid of my two other duplicate posts. (Whew) One of the reasons I own an Oliver is because it makes my camping experience nice and convenient. I believed a macerator would put me even further down the road towards convenience, and for a while it did just that. I was as happy as a pig rolling in . . . rolling in. . . . well you know. When it came time to consider refurbishing my magical poo machine I thought that was simply a bridge too far to cross. So I cannot really tell you how stinky a job it was since I chose not to go down that path. Perhaps JuniorBirdman can chime in and tell you about that. He probably refurbishes his, but then Eagle pilots are just plane nuts. Call me a sissy. I believe in gravity. It is always there, (until we fly off into space) and I can always refill the black tank and hurl copious amounts of fresh water down it after I have taken care of business. Pete1 point
