Suspension Rebuild of a Classic HD Tow Vehicle
Patriot replied to jd1923's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
@jd1923 Really nice job bringing an extended service life back to your Ram. It looks really great for a 22 year old truck. It should hopefully provide you with many happy towing miles especially knowing you did the work. Last October we were gifted a 2004 Ford Ranger Edge extra cab V6 4x4 by my FIL. He purchased the truck new in 2004. He is 92 now and just does not need or use his Ranger anymore. He wanted to keep it in the family, we are honoring that. When we picked it up, it only had 53k on the odo. Needless to say he did not put many miles on it over the years. We brought it home and detailed the entire truck inside and out. I swapped out the old battery for new, changed the oil and air filters and ran some fuel treatment through it. I even had a new spare installed as it had the original factory still from 04. I found the Leer camper shell you see in the pic for $350 off CL. I took it to a really reputable body shop and had the topper which was originally black painted to match Sonic Blue for $600. I purchased new seals from Leer for all the windows. As I had the shop pull all the windows to sand the topper down. A new similar Leer topper would have cost $2700 plus. I added new black aluminum running boards to reduce chances of the careless door swingers in parking lots. And they really work well. I recently took it to a local shop and had all four original shocks replaced with Bilsteins which I provided and the shop installed for $125 labor. What a difference! I was glad to pay the shop $125 it was a very hot and humid summer day. We just rolled over 60k on this truck which is primarily used as a Lowes/grocery getter. We will have the transmission serviced soon. It’s really been a great little truck, fun to drive and we are grateful to have it. It also keeps the miles off our F350 TV and our car. It’s also reasonable to register at $59.00 a year. I say all this as I can really appreciate ALL that you have done with your Ram. Again, really nice work on the resto! Now enjoy that truck, it will make a fine TV! 😊 Patriot🇺🇸 Our Ranger will be 20 yrs old soon. -
I found this solar powered flag post Led light at HF and am going to give it a try on our next trip. I opted to mount it using heavy duty zip ties vs SS hose clamps for a just little cleaner install. (See unsnipped zip tie) It’s got pretty good reviews, so I thought I would give it a try. I will post up how well it lights up our flag after our first use. The solar panel and light are adjustable. The light can be removed during travel and the mount left in place on the pole. The light will likely need a little tweaking to get it dialed in on the flag. Patriot🇺🇸

Hey Max, I just saw your post. We have had the best success calling the LG front desk after 2pm during the week. The staff is super nice and very helpful. Hope to see you there! 😊 -

@Ollie-Haus What a great idea and very solid mounting solution for Old Glory! 🇺🇸🇺🇸 The saddle clamps work excellent, a very well thought out mod. The flag pole and base base are rock solid. Despite the oppressive heat this afternoon, the install went seamless. Thanks for posting up! Patriot🇺🇸

I agree on the much quieter lower decibel rating of the Truma retro fit. It was a complete 💯 game changer for us. I also agree on the leverage having the Truma regrading resale value. It really nice being able to listen to music, talk on the phone and sleep without ear plugs. What’s wrong with a little peace and quiet in a $70-80k TT? 😄

From what we learned from the Truma tech at the rally, dehumidify is its own feature only on the remote. When we want to rapidly reduce humidity we use the rain drop button on the remote. This has worked really well for us. The owners manual/instructions for the Truma being translated from German to English are not great.

We chose frosted doors. The black doors highlighted lots of finger prints everywhere when we looked at the model trailers prior to purchasing. Jason Essary told me that the mirrored finish cabinet doors scratched easily. They also had trouble with QC with their mirrored door supplier. As a result the mirrored doors were discontinued.

Using a generator solely for charging the Ollie batteries
Patriot replied to HDRider's topic in Ollie Boondocking
@abcsfam That Westinghouse 4500 will likely serve you well. I considered a number of different generators when looking a few months ago. I agree with you. The Westinghouse 4500 dry weight at 104 lbs caused me to pause and take a step backward. I have had several Hondas over the years which have always started and served me well. I can honestly say a future upgrade to a 40# lighter “suitcase” Honda 3200i will be so appreciated by your back as the years go by. As an fyi, there is a company called https://genconnexdirect.net/eu3200i. that sells the 3200i with an LP conversion. Pricey at $3200 plus shipping. With a Veterans discount, I paid $2500 at Northern Tool for our gas only 3200i OTD. There are always trade offs. Patriot🇺🇸 -
Suspension Rust on 2017 Oliver - a problem or not?
Patriot replied to Cort's topic in General Discussion
@Cort It’s without question the used Oliver in your OP has been really neglected. This is what you actually can see. The larger concern which should concern any buyer is what you don’t see? With the number of Olivers for sale lately surely the right one will come along. I think you are very wise to move on regardless of how nice the seller is. All the best and happy hunting! Patriot🇺🇸 -

We got a little rain and no wind here in Western NC, our friends at who live on Marco Island said it was a gorgeous day there today. Appears all is calm, more hype than ever from the news weather heads. Onward! Patriot🇺🇸

Just your opinion and I believe you sold your trailer and no longer having a dog in the fight. These are exciting times to be an Oliver owner and to watch Oliver grow and spread its wings. 👍🏻👍🏻 Maybe try and not be this guy.😉 -

After a recent 18-day trip, we were under numerous thunderstorm and hail warnings while camped. I decided to try and come up with a reasonable, low cost way to at least try and mitigate hail damage to our TV while parked during a bad hail storm. After giving it some thought, I went over to our local HF and purchased a few HF 72x80” large moving blankets and a few rolls of the HF fatigue mats. The fatigue mats will completely cover the hood and roof/moonroof of our TV. These mats can be secured with gaffers tape if we need it. The mats are super lightweight and can easily be trimmed to pattern your WS, hood or roof top. They roll up and store easily. Naturally, I hope we never have to use these mats or blankets. It certainly beats nothing at all. Generally speaking, we feel like the Oliver will fair well in a hail storm with exception of the solar panels. We do carry extra moving blankets for the solar panels should we need them. This is not perfect solution, but it’s quick, lightweight and workable. It beats having to leave our TV at a dent removal shop for several weeks. I would be interested in anyones else’s contingency plan to mitigate hail damage to their TV. These HF materials came to $80. This is still a work in progress. Here is a $500 option 😳 - https://hailprotector.com/products/suv3-hail-protector-portable-suv-truck-and-van-protection-system-between-234-and-270-in-length Patriot🇺🇸 A few photos- I will pattern an entire foam cover for the WS. The rear fiberglass topper will hopefully withstand small hail.

Very happy with the Barker Jack cover fit and finish. I don’t hang my safety cables on the cover or use the 7 pin plug holder. They already have a secure storage location. I really like the visibility of the leveling bubble at the top and the zippered access to the Jack and light switches. I don’t know of any other cover that provides this feature. The cover fits nice and snug behind my 3200i generator cover. It’s a 💯keeper for me. Patriot🇺🇸

I think this is a wise move by Oliver. Thinking forward and into the future about potential new customers and more exposure of the Oliver brand and having approved dealerships that can work on existing Oliver owners trailers. If you are in Southern California or Washington State or Maine and you need service on your Oliver it’s a long trek to Hohenwald. I think if Oliver can partner up with a strong dealership sales network and get techs trained up on servicing Olivers it has the potential for a very successful venture. It appears from Anita’s email nothing will prevent owners from still having service done at the Hohenwald Service Center. Onward! Patriot🇺🇸 -
Looks amazing, nice work!
