  1. This is the first (and so far only) mod we've done in our Oliver. The bar is a nice assist in closing the door. Looks like the sliding panel and round latch are still there, just difficult to see.
  2. The Oliver is well-sealed. We travel dusty forest roads fairly often and haven't had intrusion into the Oliver. We're taking ours to Alaska this summer, so it should really be put to the test. Marsha
  3. Camping in the mountains on a regular basis, and also two very long trips in Canada, we've done quite a few gravel roads. I'm sure you also drive slow on the gravel, but still, chips can happen. We picked up a thick coat of red clay, and a few small chips in the gelcoat, on one long stretch in Canada, even with the RockTamers. I don't really care for the idea of bedliner on my trailer, though. I think if we were planning on heavy gravel road travel (like the Denali highway?), I'd look at a removable heavy film used on vehicles and boats for protection while being transported, or possibly applying the new 3M product, 3M9000 Paint Defender. Paint Defender is a spray-on, removable clear plastic shield for the automotive world. I don't know if it's recommended for fiberglass gelcoat, so a call or email to the manufacturer would be in order. It's applied over a coat of special wax to aid in removal. http://3mauto.com/paint-defender-spray-film.html Anyone ever tried it? Sherry I revisited this topic a few months after this post by sending an email to 3M. The first contact, when I was told it could not be used on fiberglass, was by phone. Here was the email response I received:
  4. Hi Linda. We just fold and stack our clothes in the overhead bins. I had thought bins might be helpful, but because of the curve I found the best way to utilize all space available was to just place clothing in the compartments. The only thing we store under the seat in the dining area is extra blankets/bed linens. We have a king bed so we have tons of storage in the aisle under the bed and we use storage bins to make access easier. I think as you travel more in your Oliver, you'll find what works best for you. ~Marsha
  5. RE: Oliver Owner's Map - see http://olivertraveltrailers.com/see-an-ollie/
  6. I'm sensitive to smells and also have allergies/asthma. We picked up our Oliver in early June and one thing I haven't noticed is the fiberglass (or any other) smell that was prevalent when we bought our Casita. I was thinking with the Casita that maybe the strong smell was the glue used to adhere the carpet to every surface available. So, no issues for me. On the subject of Airstreams - we were on a seven week trip out west and while at Glacier we were next to an Airstream owner who toured the Oliver and absolutely loved it! In fact, she toured it twice and was talking about how much she could get for her Airstream to put toward an Oliver. There was also an Airstream group at Madison campground in Yellowstone; a few members toured the Oliver and stating Oliver is definitely a competitor for Airstream.
  7. This is something we need to deal with shortly. We covered our Casita with a CalMark cover made of Sunbrella and are hoping we can have one made for our Oliver. We stored it for five Michigan winters with excellent results.
  8. Today is our two month anniversary with our Oliver Legacy Elite II and care and cleaning has basically been a breeze. We camp in national forest campgrounds down dirt roads for the most part, so the exterior gets dirty fast. We just use marine wash and wax to keep it shining, not worrying so much about keeping it clean while we're on the road. The interior is easy to wipe with a cotton cloth and water. Fingerprints are probably the biggest "cleaning" I have to do. I did purchase a corded hand vacuum to make cleanup of the floor easier, although we do have an entry mat outside and a small rug right inside the door. The most important thing is to get out there and have a great time on the road. Oh - and be ready to give tours at any time.
  9. Welcome to the Oliver Forum. We're also headed to Glacier in a couple weeks and were planning to take US2 - I would certainly be interested in hearing about alternate, more scenic routes. We usually try to stay at Two Medicine CG, so if you're in the area, look us up.
  10. We tow with a 2009 F150 FX4 5.4 litre V8 and get 18 highway, 16 in town, 11 or 12 towing the Oliver. We used to get between 13-14 towing our Casita, but we knew we there would be a drop.
  11. Ours is noisy, too, to the point of being annoying to us while inside. It's certainly difficult to sleep with it cycling on and off. I don't know what it sounds like from the outside, but I know Casita uses the same AC and one Casita owner had someone in a campground ask them to turn it off, it was so loud. The only saving grace for us is we live in the north and don't have to use it that often.
  12. Welcome Grayson and Ann. We picked up our Oliver less than a month ago and couldn't be happier. Once we visited the factory there was no turning back. As mentioned previously, there is so much that's standard there aren't too many option decisions to be made. We're headed out west in August, too. If you happen to see us, be sure to stop by - we love to talk Oliver.
  13. We used the same type of hatch on the fresh water tank in our Casita to get the last of the water/antifreeze out.
  14. Thanks for the picture. I was able to turn my laptop to view Maybe Oliver will consider a standard mod to accommodate something like this. Who knows?
  15. We don't travel with the gas on, either (personal preference). Could you post a picture of the hatch mod? We pick up next week.
  16. Welcome John and Gwen and congratulations on your new Oliver. We'll join you in ownership of an Oliver Legacy Elite II in exactly one week from today and we couldn't be more excited. Perhaps we'll see you on the road one day.
  17. Sherry - after you posted the information about the 3M product we decided to look into it for our trip to Alaska. We contacted 3M and were told it wasn't recommended for use on fiberglass, but rather auto paint finishes. We're currently looking for alternatives. Marsha
  18. Well, Stan, we would certainly be interested since they haven't started ours yet.
  19. Welcome to an "Elite" group. We toured the factory on February 18 (Wednesday) and by the end of that same week decided to go ahead and get in line for a Legacy Elite II. Our delivery date is in June and we can hardly wait. We also have a Casita that we'll be selling. It's served us well, but we're ready for our Oliver. Be sure to report back on how your visit to the factory went. Marsha
  20. Thanks for the info, Gary and David. We also use command hooks in our Casita. In fact, we had the Casita factory leave off all baskets, hooks and towel bar when we ordered it 5+ years ago, mostly because it was kind of tacky looking. We're having the king bed in our Oliver, so we won't have a nightstand for an extra outlet, but we are having one put near the street side in the bed area. Not sure yet where yet (also for a CPAP). Gary - are you going to Alaska soon? We're picking up our Oliver in June and then a week or two later we're headed to Alaska via Glacier NP. Marsha
  21. Where are you having the additional clothes hooks installed? We're still waiting to hear from Oliver as to when production starts, so insight from new owners is greatly appreciated. Thanks,
  22. I would highly encourage a visit to the factory. Definitely worth the time; in fact we spent almost an entire day there talking and touring the factory. Needless to say, after touring the factory there was only one outcome - we pick up our Oliver in early June.
  23. When we were at Glacier this past summer we took a day trip up to Waterton Lakes from Two Medicine Campground and there was no wait at that border. This was mid-August. That's the way we plan to head when we take our Alaska trip this coming summer.
  24. Congratulations. Looking forward to your pictures.
