Trailer Length vs "pretty" campsite
Steph and Dud B replied to Dennis and Melissa's topic in General Discussion
It depends where you are. Out west a lot of the forested national park campgrounds were built when trailers were small and 25 feet is probably a pretty good top number. Above that your choices will be limited. Different for dry camping in the desert and commercial campgrounds. -
We're starting a garage project now. Current plan is for a 14' tall and 12' wide Ollie door, flanked by two 12' wide x 10' high doors for the truck and car. The bays will be 30' deep. We went with an oversized trailer door so it would fit other travel trailers, Class Bs, or large trucks, too. And backing a dually into a 10' wide door isn't fun.

Looking for solution for charging multiple devices
Steph and Dud B replied to Kathy Tewart's topic in General Discussion
Same one, set up the same way in our trailer. (BTW, newer model years don't have any USB or power ports on the nightstand.) -
"A Participant’s indemnification obligations hereunder arise in the event that a Participant acts in violation of any law, rule, or regulation or contrary to these Terms, and in such event, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Oliver for any loss, damages or costs (including reasonable attorneys' fees), resulting from any third-party claims, actions, or demands arising in such limited circumstances." I read this as saying we'd be on the hook for everything, including OTT's costs, only if someone sued based on an event where we did something illegal or against Oliver's rules. I think that's better than the previous terms(?). However, they won't extend any protection to us, either: "The Released Parties will have no liability for any losses, damages, or harm (whether bodily injury, death, and/or property damage) that the Participant may incur by performing the Activity." The absolute limit of any compensation for loss from OTT would be $500: "NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY CONTAINED HEREIN, ANY AND ALL RELEASED PARTIES’ CUMULATIVE LIABILITY TO PARTICIPANT ARISING FROM ANY CAUSE OF ACTION WILL AT ALL TIMES BE LIMITED TO THE LESSER OF (A) YOUR ACTUAL LOSS AS PROVEN; OR (B) $500." To me, not bad, not great. Seems like I'd have to screw up to be on the hook for any of OTT's costs, which seems fair. However, if something goes wrong, I'd still have to pay for my own defense and damages, unless OTT decided to give me $500. Very much interested in what someone with actual legal training/experience like @Rivernerd thinks of the revised terms.

I just received my set of covers last week. Will put on before before our first trip of 2023.

Blinds open or closed when towing/storing?
Steph and Dud B replied to Katjo's topic in General Discussion
My wife made a little insulated curtain for the bath window. She had an unfortunate experience with frosted glass in our first trailer. Turns out, if you're close enough to it, and the lighting is good, it doesn't hide all that much. 😲 Didn't realize that until we'd had that trailer for a few years. Probably amused a few neighbors... 🥴 -
Blinds open or closed when towing/storing?

We keep them closed in both situations. To keep UV out during storage and to keep the interior cool and maybe reduce strain on the strings when traveling. -
How to Rent Out Your Travel Trailer for Extra Cash
Steph and Dud B replied to JWalmsley's topic in Oliver Blogs
We rented a couple of trailers on-site at campgrounds before buying our first trailer. It was very helpful. However, we would never rent out our Ollie (or previous rigs). Too many clueless people out there and RVs are just too easy to damage. -
Heater only blowing cold air
Steph and Dud B replied to Dave Mazone's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
If you're talking about the interior vent louvers, I believe they just snap on. I accidently kicked one off with my foot and I just snapped it back into place. -
Interior Hull Trim Molding
Steph and Dud B replied to Ralph Mawyer's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
This just happened to us, too. Too cold to deal with now. Our first trip this spring will be to OTT for some other warranty issues. They can fix this while it's there. Will probably tack it up with painter's tape for the trip down. I'm assuming poor prep work is the culprit. -
Water Leak Somewhere under the Kitchen Sink Area
Steph and Dud B replied to Imelda's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Ours is the same. Significantly better. I see they didn't attach the zip tie on yours either. Leaving ours off unless the plug works loose. -
For anyone heading to Hohenwald from the east, there's a new(ish) Buc-ee's on I-40 in Crossville, TN. It's about 3 hours from OTT. Has anybody tried it? When we took delivery last summer we missed the grand opening by only a few days. This spring we're stopping for sure - in both directions!

The Many Benefits of Owning a Toy Hauler Trailer
Steph and Dud B replied to JWalmsley's topic in Oliver Blogs
🤔 An LE2 with a hatch in the back for 2 bikes and an east-west double bed in front of that. Maybe eliminate the dinette for more room. Ta-da! An Oliver toy hauler! 😁 -
The Many Benefits of Owning a Toy Hauler Trailer
Steph and Dud B replied to JWalmsley's topic in Oliver Blogs
We haven't done the BRP since we sold our first travel trailer for a fifth wheel and would like to return, if we can. Are there really enough campsites available for a semi-spontaneous trip if we avoid those holiday weekends? -
There are many documents and agreements that look iron-clad but they're not. Many companies force employees to sign strict and detailed non-compete agreements. But many states limit the companies' ability to actually enforce those agreements. The documents' main value is to scare the employee away from going to a competitor. A signed paper is only as good as a judge says it is if it goes to court. The same could be true here. No matter how well crafted OTT's hold harmless agreement might be, a judge could rule it unenforceable in certain situations. That's why @Rivernerd's suggestion to modify the indemnity clause to protect owners financially in that situation sounds wise to me.
-
If OTT changes the indemnification language as @Rivernerd suggested, and gives us some credit if a spontaneous interaction with someone directly results in a sale (could be verified by the buyer providing OTT with our name and hull number), I think this would be a good program and we'd be happy to participate.

First, Matt @MDuncan, thank you for all the explanations and clarifications. Per the quote above, can you define "Qualified Friend"? If I get to know the couple camping next to me one weekend, show them my trailer, and they end up buying an Oliver based on that interaction, does that count as Qualified Friend? Almost every trip, another camper asks about our trailer. They aren't really friends, but they're interested and I often give them a tour.
-
Yeah. I mean it's not, really. Right? But it just feels kinda "corporate" and a bit Tupperware Party-ish to me. I can't quantify it, but it feels less small-town "Oliver Family" than the old system somehow. Will the Platinum Ollie owners form their own clique and not let the Bronze owners sit at their table at the rally? 😮 I'm being facetious, of course. Practically speaking, it seems like a well thought out concept (liability concerns aside), but it just doesn't feel warm and fuzzy to me somehow. Seems like something Grand Design would do with their YouTube influencers.
-
Does your liability exposure go up if someone gets hurt while looking at your trailer as part of a manufacturer-sponsored program like this vs. if you were just inviting them to take a look to be neighborly? Seems like they'd be more likely to sue if their lawyer found out you were being compensated. Or doesn't it make a difference?

Third-Party Maintenance Facilities

Actually, no. 30A RV extension cords have a different female end. No twist-lock.
-
Even though you could attach a smaller gauge cable to 30 amp connectors, I'd be hesitant to do so. Someday down the road someone could grab the wrong cord and fire up the A/C, risking overheating the cable and a fire. I just don't like mismatching amp ratings between wire and connectors (unless the wire capacity is greater than the connectors). And, yes, I understand that's what we're doing when we use something like a 30A to 15A adapter, but I feel like that's a bit different because we can see the adapter and know that the capacity has been derated. How about something like this for use at home: Leisure Cords 90 Degree 15' Power/Extension Cord with 30 AMP Male Standard / 30 AMP Female 90 Degree Locking Adapter (30 Amp - 15 Foot) https://a.co/d/ewDztDt

Jogoswall fire extinguisher?
Steph and Dud B replied to Steph and Dud B's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I was thinking of attaching it to the outer fiberglass shell, inside the fridge enclosure. According to the Q&As, "The outer layer of the agent in the fire extinguisher is wrapped with waterproof silica gel, which will not be affected by wet weather." My biggest question is airflow. These are designed to work in semi-enclosed spaces. The fridge's fan moves some air when it's running. I'm wondering if the fan would clear out the fire extinguishing agent before it could be effective. For that reason I'd probably mount it mid-compartment or lower in the hope that the agent would reach the fire before being exhausted by the fan. I also hope it's not too "girly" for my trailer. 🤣
