  1. As a prior owner of an airstream Basecamp X, I wasn’t particularly impressed with my segment protectors. They resonated/vibrated at highway speeds, and there are multiple reports of attachment fatigue on the shell. I think rock tamers or mud flaps on the tv and some sort of protective film on the front of the trailer might be a better solution.
  2. How about heading north to the bluegrass for Bourbon distillery tours or Louisville. Louisville has great restaurants, Slugger museum, Churchill Downs museum, great breweries and numerous urban distillery tours, Angels Envy, Rabbit Hole, Old Forrester, Peerless, Evan Williams are all within walking distance of each other downtown.
  3. Welcome Eric! We moved from a 16’ Basecamp X to our LE2. We also loved our Basecamp but…. First, we needed a little more room and although it seems silly, we were tired of setting up and tearing down the bed. We developed early filiform corrosion on our airstream about 2-3 years after new. I arrested it with corrosion X and T9 but it always worried us. It is nice to not be quite so paranoid about hail damaging the exterior skin. The airstream was not spec’ed out like I would expect. No battery monitoring system (BMV-712) and a poor solar charge controller. Lastly, I would search Airforums for posts from Ray Eklund. He owns an LE 2 and a heavily modified Airstream and his insight was instrumental in us exploring and eventually purchasing an Oliver. We have found our Oliver to be what we hoped our Airstream would have been
  4. Saw this Ollie yesterday afternoon I-64 East in Louisville.
  5. Hello Ollie. Saw you at Grand Rivers, KY. We were camping not too far away at LBL. Stopped for a burger at Green Turtle Bay, but kinda wish we were having Conch fritters at Green Turtle Cay. Safe travels.
  6. I think if you turn the xantrex inverter/converter to a lower max amp setting, such as 15a, to accommodate a low amp rated input and forget to turn it back up when you plug into 30a shore power, your batteries will still charge but at a slower rate, Provided the max draw from all the loads doesn’t exceed 15a.
  7. That is great news. It makes me wonder if my EU2200 would also run the air? I know Truma says at least 3000w generator is required. But maybe if I was not at altitude and maybe if the batteries were already fully charged do the converter wasn’t pulling any current? We are headed out next week maybe I’ll give it a try.
  8. I agree on the interesting question. I suspect based on my reading that if the trailer is plugged into a source that is insufficient to start the air conditioner, the ems would trip shutting off ac power from the house, or the house breaker would trip. Not sure which would happen first. It would be awesome if the inverter had a way to power the converter with low amperage shore power and run the converter with only battery power. I haven’t found any documentation that this is possible. Lets us know what the outcome is.
  9. Any load on the battery will decrease the voltage while the load is present. The inverter draws a significant dc load even when it is just turned on and not running any ac loads. The dc load will be significantly higher if the inverter is running some appliance like the microwave or air conditioning. This is the reason that determining state of charge from battery voltage is notoriously difficult and the main reason battery monitors such as the BMV 712 or a smart shunt are so popular. I also am new to lithium batteries and others might have additional or more appropriate input, but is sounds pretty normal to me.I won’t be back at the trailer for a couple of days but I will check out my readings the next time I am there.
  10. So sorry. We saw her on the lot in howenwald when we pickup up out LEII. I wondered how they would be able to put her back together. Good luck and happy trails going forward.
  11. Congratulations and have a great time. It’s a fun day, and a great trailer. The folks at Oliver are awesome. Bring latex gloves for the dump station! Lol
  12. Thanks all, I updated software today and the inreach seems much more responsive. I also suspect tree cover may be an issue.
  13. It’s good to hear all the positive reviews of the inreach. Sounds like I need to play around with mine and see if I can improve response time. If anyone has any suggestions I am all in for them.
  14. I’ve had an in reach mini for the last several years and continue to use it when biking or camping out of cell range. I have never been impressed with its ability to send texts in a timely manner. The texting delay is often hrs even if there is not overhead tree cover. At this point I primarily carry it for its sos function which thankfully I have never needed. I also wonder if this device will also be made obsolete by cell phones. The latest iPhone has a sat based sos function, but at least for now it is just a sos sent to emergency service with no way to send details of the emergency or for emergency response teams to reply.
  15. The victron components in the ‘23 models are an MPPT 100/50 charge controller and a BMV712 battery monitor. Not sure if the Xantrex XC Pro inverter converter is new in 22 or 23. The solar panels are Newpowa. The Truma Aventa air is paired with the varioheat unit.
  16. I installed a master kill switch on my prior trailer, primarily to remove any parasitic loads during storage under cover and because the batteries were very difficult to access. If you want to stir the pot, ask whether it should be on the positive or negative side of the battery. LOL I’ve seen strong agreements for both. I’m a negative side kinda guy. Removing the negative lead from the battery will accomplish what you need.
  17. Here are the settings on our freedom xc from the factory
  18. Another vote for open roads. I am also fortunate because there is a participating station near my home. Only disadvantage is that they have direct access to your bank account, like a debit card. It hasn’t been an issue but I keep a close eye on it..
  19. We are so excited for your upcoming delivery. We just picked up hull 1390 and are delighted with our trailer. The folks at oliver are extremely kind and very helpful. I would strongly recommend spending a night or two at Oliver. We did and found it to be very enjoyable. If you do be sure to bring some camp chairs and especially bring some latex or nitrile disposable gloves if you will be emptying your tanks at Oliver bf you leave. We found these series of videos on storage options by Katjo on this forum or Kathy Adams to be extremely helpful for storage bins, baskets etc, but those things can be done at your leisure. Happy Trails.
  20. Katjo, thanks so much for your YouTube videos. My wife and I have reviewed many of them and found your storage ideas very helpful. Both of us born and raised in The Burbs of Detroit, so Go Blue, or Go green, go white, or whatever your team is!
  21. I usually just carry mine in the bed wo any container, I usually need every bit of space, we don’t travel light. Lol. I recall that there are a bunch of threads on Airforums regarding this topic and several folks had good options because they carried their genny inside the trailer. You might check out a search there.
  22. We have also stayed there and strongly recommend it.
  23. Your trailer looks great and congratulations. We are anxiously awaiting our pickup next Monday!
  24. Welcome and good luck. We too are anxiously awaiting our delivery date, about four weeks away. I don’t drive an 18 wheeler, but my dozen roses are on order for Friday. Our Kathy Mattea moment is this Friday! We cannot wait to start our new adventure together. Ollie-Haus, give a toot when your hit Louisville. We live just west of I65 and the ballpark. We will be on the lookout for your return. We have a clear view of the expressway from our place. Assuming you are taking I 65.
  25. What an awesome setup and hobby. With retirement around the corner, I planning on restarting my reloading and target shooting again. I have never been interested in air rifles but after seeing your setup, I am interested!
