If fly fishing is your thing, the green above the dam is amazing trout water, browns, rainbows and cuts. I usually drive to little hole and walk upstream or park below the dam and walk down stream. More cuts closer to the dam. Plenty of long parking spots at both since there is a boat ramp at both sites. Dripping springs is a fun little campground but I don’t know if they have water or a dump station.

Miles per gallon with a diesel?
Rolind replied to Dave and Kimberly's topic in Welcome to the Oliver Forums
Our F250 gets 13-14 mph while towing our LE2. Mileage is very speed dependent. -
Running the Truma AC when boondocking
Rolind replied to silversportsman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I have an LE2 with the Truma aventa air and my Honda eu 2200 will not run the air conditioner. When the compressor starts the Honda overload breaker trips. There is now a soft starter option for the Truma, but as for now can only be installed by a Teuma tech service facility. I was quoted $425+tax+mobile fees. I haven’t had the soft start installed yet. I was holding off for now to see if a DIY installation eventually becomes an option. -
Sea Biscuit Rear Basket and Storage Boxes
Rolind replied to Steve and MA's topic in Ollie Modifications
The basket and the bins looks great. What are the weight limits of the basket? -
We have had this issue when something is obstructing the outflow ductwork under the table in the rear of the trailer, like a duffle bag. If these are unobstructed, then I agree checking for kinks in ductwork is the next step. We leave the rear standard bed set up as a bed and use the area under the bed/table for storage.

I think that it will take a very large solar panel array to be able to reliably recharge your batteries after any significant AC use thru your inverter. I’ve played around with our system running the AC at night for 8hrs with 400w solar and 640 amp-hrs of lithium from the factory. Even if we had double our solar wattage, I think it would take 8-10 hrs of full perfect angled sun exposure in the summer to replace what the AC consumed overnight. Although running a generator is less desirable, our EU2200 could likely bring the batteries back to near full in 2-3 hrs and solar could top of the last 10-20% throughout the course of the day. If it it hot and humid when we camp, we try to have shore power or go north, or to elevation out west.

I think either of your two options is acceptable and I have used both methods on different trailers. With two separate charge controllers you get less expense and system redundancy in case one solar system goes down. I suppose you could argue that using only one charge controller would be a “cleaner” installation, I don’t really think so however. One other thing to consider, if you run only one charge controller, solar panel outputs need to be very similar or you won’t get full charging from the higher power panels. There are great videos available on YouTube explaining mismatched solar panels. Happy Trails.

I bought a diesel F250. Great truck, great range and plenty of payload. The downsides to a diesel are increased initial cost, increased maintenance costs, possible issues in extreme cold weather and reduced payload compared to the gas version of the same truck, IMO. I do a lot of the routine diesel maintenance myself. I don’t think you have to have a truck, but it is very helpful to have a place for gear, chairs, propane etc.

We usually travel with empty or nearly empty fresh, gray and black water tanks. We store our trailer at a storage facility and no water is available. Although we don’t feel strongly about it, it never seemed right lugging a lot of fresh water with us. We fill up our tank when we arrive at our destination. We do carry fresh water in various jugs for drinking, coffee etc. I think it is a matter of personal preference and convenience.

Thanks so much for the info. That helps me a lot. We are also traveling and I will update the firmware when we get home

Rivernerd, I am also troubled with the Error Code 20. I happens in our trailer every time our lithium batteries are significantly discharged (<80% SOC) and we then plug into shore power. I am always able to clear it until the next time we are discharged and then plug into shore power. I have not done a software update yet. Did you do the software update? Have you had the problem happen since the update? I have called xantrex several times and never got any useful suggestions. They always want me to check the communication wires between the inverter and the remote display. I have contacted Oliver and they referred me to the same link referenced above. Thanks Robert and Cheryl

I seem to remember that the panel voltage needs to exceed the battery voltage before the solar charge controller will begin to deliver charge to the batteries. Also, once the batteries are fully charged, the solar charge controller will stop delivering charge to the batteries until the the battery voltage drops to a certain point. I do not remember this voltage. If the batteries are fully charged, and the solar panels are under sunlight, placing a load on the batteries should cause the charge controller to send charge to the batteries. I would place the trailer in the sun, turn on a load, maybe the inverter, and see what happens when you do. Make sure you are using the Victron phone app connected to the charge controller to monitor amps delivered to the batteries. Hope this helps, we absolutely love our LE2.

Ray and Nancy, Sorry you are selling! As you know you were instrumental in Cheryl and I buying our LE2. We love our Oliver and heading to Traverse City and then Lake Superior in a couple of weeks. Hope all is well. Happy Trails!

If you are back in Moab on your return, try out desert bistro. It’s one of our favorite restaurants. Your pics are great and your trip sounds awesome!

Thanks so much. I just sent an email to Vintage Basecamp in Louisville KY, an authorized Truma installer. I will update the forum with their response.

Do you know, Is it available for diy installation? I just installed a dometic smartstart on my sons SOB trailer. It was an easy install with cryptic instructions.

We have had a significant amount of corrosion on out light bezels and a lesser amount on the propane handles. Our trailer is just a year old. The offending trip was to Bahia Honda. There was some chemical treatment on the roads through Tennessee but we washed the trailer immediately in arriving to Florida. any advice on the best way to protect plastic chrome pieces. Our 3m marine wax didn’t do the trick. Thanks

Whoa there pilgrim. Easy on the Basecamp! lol. A 16 BCX was our last trailer and saved our lives through COVID when there was nothing to do but boondock! We were sad to see her go. I agree though, kinda an acquired taste. I’m still not to keen on the 20’ Basecamps.

We have this one and have been very happy with it. We only carry our black tank tote on it (Camco 28 gallon rv tote) which doesn’t weigh very much. It is stable and well suited for our needs. It does block the license plate. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JF53ZEE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A suggestion to Truma about the Aventa A/C....
Rolind replied to Mike and Jill's topic in General Discussion
I think this would be an interesting mod. We are not bothered by the sound of the fan, but have noticed, under some circumstances, that the humidity of the air exiting the vents of the Truma becomes very humid when the compressor clicks off. It generally occurs when it is not very hot but very humid outside and the compressor cycles on for only a short time. Of course the dehumidify mode quickly lowers the humidity, but also causes the temperature to plunge. I suspect that if the blower turn off when the compressor cycled off this humidity burst would not be an issue. -
FORD SUPER DUTY TRAILER MOUNTED CAMERA
Rolind replied to Wandering Sagebrush's topic in General Discussion
I was initially very interested in the ford wired backup camera, but was very hesitant bc I had to be hardwired to the trailer. Seemed like a lot of hassle for very little benefit. I currently have an after market tpms and the Oliver factory installed backup trailer camera. The monitor is a little small and it sure would be nice to have the backup camera on the trailer display on the truck head unit, but I am very happy with what I have. I find I only really use the backup camera for a few minutes when I back into a campsite or storage for our Oliver. The wired ford backup camera and tpms seems like a long run for a short slide! Just my humble opinion. -
We used an equalizer hitch with our Tacoma and airstream. Basecamp 16 x. It was a great hitch and we had a lot of squat in the Tacoma wo the equalizer. We now have a F250 Tremor, factory 3” lift and reportedly the 250 and 350 both have 350 rear springs. We tow our LE2 on the ball and generally have had a great experience. The only issue was on a trip to Fruita, CO with a particularly strong gusty crosswind and had to slow down some. Otherwise the setup is stable as can be. One of the primary reasons for the upgrade to a F250 was the ability to tow wo a weight distribution hitch. In the greater scheme of things hitching a WDH is a minor issue but certainly something to avoid if possible. The other primary reason was payload.

Draining Freshwater Tank
Rolind replied to Ollie Ollie in Free's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
I usually open the fresh water tank drain and sometimes raise the front end a little. I can take a while, depending on how full the tank is but usually less than one hour. I’m suspicious that your tank sensor may still show some water in the tank when it is actually empty or nearly so. A little water in the fresh water tank is not a problem. A little fresh water in the lines or traps is.
