Steph and Dud B Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 Does anyone tow their trailer with the main/large MaxxAir roof vent open or do you always close it when traveling? John E Davies Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 If it is fully opened it might work at slow speeds as long as there is no strong wind. But it really was never designed to survive 65 mph towing plus gusty 20 mph headwinds. That is equivalent to a hurricane. The ONLY positions where the rain shroud is not loose are at full closed or full open. At ANY intermediate position, the entire assembly will flop around in the wind. Never leave your fan part way open using the black knob, especially in gusty winds or when towing. CnC Posted August 8, 2022 Posted August 8, 2022 We've always closed all openings when towing. Airflows over/around the towed Ollie can create all kinds of unwanted airflows from other places (window slider seals, drainage openings, black/grey tank vents, etc.) - JMO from a forensic engineer. Moderators Mike and Carol Posted August 8, 2022 Moderators Posted August 8, 2022 We tow with everything closed. Especially in the west, dust can be an issue. It’s not fun to arrive at your site and have dust covering everything. Mike 3 1 Texas Hill Country | 2016 Elite II #135 | 2020 Ram 2500 6.7L

Steph and Dud B Posted August 9, 2022 Author Posted August 9, 2022 Ok, closed it is. Thanks. That's what we've always done but got curious if others did the same. 2 Stephanie and Dudley from CT. 2022 LE2, Hull #1150: Eggcelsior. Tow vehicle: 2016 GMC Sierra 6.0 gas dually 4x4. John E Davies Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 Part of my “ready to depart” walk around is a visual inspection of the roof, to look for branches, to check the solar knobs (nylon ties are in place), and to make sure I remembered to close the two vents. If in doubt I stand on a picnic table for a better angle 😬. My wife gives me “The Look” whenever I do that. Cameron Posted August 9, 2022 Posted August 9, 2022 I've usually towed with both vents open, or at least the main vent. Haven't noticed any problems so far. 2021 Elite II #841, 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, 3.0 diesel
