  1. I would cover the front of the trailer when you start the Alaska Canadian Highway so through British Columbia and the Yukon Territories we covered ours with a thin layer of closed cell foam I bought at a flea market. Put it on with no-residue duck tape I bought at the Home Depot/ Lowes stores worked well, lasted up through Alaska and back to Washington state when I took it off so for over a month. I made sure no water or air gets behind as that is what wears on the gel coat and you will get rain, mudd, dust and more rain , mudd and dust, but the rain cleans it off pretty well. Just a mention they help but rock Tammers alone are not the answer. Thanks Gary

  2. Joe, Nice looking rig! Your F-150 makes a fine TV for the Ollie! Like the colors, too!

  3. Thank you to all who replied to this post. After much deliberation and checking out of vehicles, large and small, we decided to go with a Ford F-150 to replace our Tacoma. We opted for a four wheel drive F-150 with a 5.0 liter V-8. We hauled our Elite II for 1100 miles. We covered the mountains from North Carolina to Southern Pennsylvania along Interstate 81 and then east to Delaware. We averaged 13.5 miles to the gallon. With the Tacoma we averaged 12.9 covering flatter ground. The ride of the F-150 is much smoother and hence the comfort is a couple of orders of magnitude better than the Tacoma, not to mention the additional room in the F-150. Thank you for your consideration! Joe Cox

  4. All We have had a number of inquiries about a reserved section of the campground at Lake Guntersville State Park for Oliver Travel Trailer Rally participants. We have not reserved a section because of the many choices of campground sites. This campground offers a diversity of choices. Some are wooded, those in sections B, F and H are in the heavily wooded areas. Section B are pull - thrus. Sections G, D and E are near the lake, but the trees are small, as a result of a tornado a few years ago. Most all sites have full hookups, but not all. When making reservations, make sure your site has all that you need. There is a primitive area in the trees, near the lake. Again this year, we will be inviting all Fiberglass RV enthusiasts, those that have a travel trailer or an interest in becoming a travel trailer owner. I will be posting an invitation on the Fiberglass RV Forum soon. Lake Guntersville State Park offers a multitude of choices in activities and we are building free time into the activities to allow you opportunity to enjoy all that the park and North Alabama has to offer. As an example, just a short drive from Guntersville, is one of the "coolest " places in Alabama. Cathedral Caverns State Park, offers a constant 56 degrees year round, has an opening of 126 feet wide and 25 feet high. Inside are many stalagmites and stalactites , one of the world's largest stalagmites "Goliath" , 45 feet tall and a 243' base. One of the larger rooms has a prehistoric shark tooth embedded in the ceiling. Buck's Pocket State Park offers a deep canyon and great hiking trails. We will be posting many sites and events that we are gathering from the Guntersville Tourism Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. Our goal is to make this the best Oliver Travel Trailer Rally ever !!

  5. Any and every a/c device is compromised without it. Starting with the converter, then anything you have plugged in like the microwave, air conditioner, etc... But like T-Oliver showed above, you could simply adapt your cord down to use the 20amp outlet if they have one and still use your surge protector.

  7. Mystery of the Hull Number and the Vin Number... I think the Hull Number of the Washington trailer is between 220 and 229, probably 221. The Wikipedia page on VIN numbers says that there are 17 digits. I have my VIN number shown below, with two positions hidden with an “x”. Positions 1-3 and 12-14 together are the manufacturer identifier, with positions 1-2 also limited by country. Position 1 must be a "1" for vehicles built in the US. For a small manufacturer like Oliver, position 3 must be a "9." Digits 4-8 are a Vehicle Identifier. Digit 9 is a Check Digit. Digit 10 is Model Year. Digit 11 is an Assembly Plant code. Digits 15-17 are a Sequential Number, our Hull numbers. When I take the VIN number of the Washington trailer, it clearly does not align. As Randy and Overland noted, Hull 522 can not be correct. However if I slide the VIN number over 1 position, it fits pretty well. Digits 4-8 are a vehicle identifier. I bet BC232 represents an Elite II, maybe twin bed. Digit 10 is the model year. Mine is G=2016, which is correct according to Wikipedia, and the Washington trailer is H=2017. If I remove the “1” at the beginning of the Washington trailer VIN and move it to the end, I get Hull 221. I looked thru the Forum Members, and I found five Hull numbers between 220 and 229, none being Hull 221. Four of these Forum Members list a location far from Washington, and the fifth does not list a location. In searching thru the list of Forum Users, I found a VIN number from a 2015 Oliver, and it has F, which is correct. It has BC232 as vehicle identifier, and it is an Elite II twin bed. BTW, position 2, part of the World Manufacturer Identifier, is different for all three trailers.

  8. Many use a pickup to tow their Oliver, but an SUV works better for us for our non-trailering needs. Additionally, a pickup would not fit in our garage. I searched the Trailer Life Towing Guides and looked for vehicles with significant towing capacity. After a lot of research we purchased an Audi Q7, which has which has a maximum permissible trailer weight of 7,700 lbs. The car is really nice, and it is a dream in pulling the Oliver. We have pulled the Ollie up steep hills, and the car has plenty of power. Don commented on decreased cargo capacity of an SUV compared to a truck. While the cargo in cubic feet is probably less, the access is better in an SUV, since you can get at stuff from either the rear hatch or the side doors. That is an advantage. On our last trip we got a roof box, which gives us much more cargo room, and the advantage of two distinct storage domains. Certain things are stowed in the roof box, others in the car, making it easier to find things. David

  9. We are using a 2014 Dodge Durango with a 5.7 V8 hemi, and we are really pleased with it. We have been to MT,CO,AZ,TX, and FL twice. We get about 12-13 MPG, the only downside is, I wish it had a bigger gas tank. We put the back 2 rows of seats down and a piece of fiber board on top with a piece of carpet, so the dog has his space. Of course if we didn't have the dog (German Shepard) we would have a lot more cargo space. The Durango seemed to be about right size for us, it's rated at 7,000 lbs towing and not huge or expensive as a Ford,Chevy, or GMC. And, most importantly, it's fun to drive. Stan
