Newfoundland Trip

I'm sure you've noticed the prevalence of car swallowing potholes on the roads when you are off  the few main highways on Newfoundland. Be very careful as you make your way down the two lane back roads.  Here, in the US, if you see someone weaving down the road ahead of you, you might think the driver was drunk and you'd keep your distance.  On the Rock, when you see the car in front of you going back and forth, he is likely avoiding the potholes and it would be good to follow along his path.

Should you see a car going perfectly straight, keeping to the center of the lane, beware, he is likely drunk!

Two whole months on the Rock!  Sounds wonderful . . .

Beware of the moose!

Yes, it was during the rut but I actually saw a moose charge a tree in Wyoming a few years back.

I agree, cracks me up when I see a potholes ahead sign when you spent the last hour avoiding them.

We spent today at L’ANSE AUX MEADOWS

Did your "Inner Viking" come out when you were there?  The docents told me I could try on some of the items in that room.

Soooooo. . .

In the village of Norstead a 54 foot replica of a Viking knarr which sailed from Greenland to L’Anse aux Meadows in 1998 with a crew of only nine men, reenacting what the Vikings did during the Viking era (790-1060 AD)

The rudder was on the side near the stern of the vessel held on with a couple ropes.

For those who might not make it to lanse aux Meadows, there is a beautiful viking ship replica near Fargo/Moorhead. Built by a guy in a landlocked outbuilding.

Sadly, he died before he could realize the dream of sailing it to Norway,  but his kids sailed it through the great lakes and on to Norway.

Somewhere, I have a photo of me and my dad, by the ship, when we visited the museum, and later, the stave church replica,  on our way to Hostfest in Minot, probably 20 years ago. We met up with his cousin from western Norway at the festival.

The ship is beautiful,  even if you're not of Scandinavian heritage.

Thank you for the memories.

Sir Richards Squires Memorial Provincial Park, the road to the park is long gravel/dirt with a little pavement and lots of pot holes.  It is a nice campground once you get here.  Good fly fishing location.

I am amazed at your connectivity to the internet in such remote locales.  You may have mentioned it or I missed it, are you using Starlink for communications?

No way, @Shawna and Scott:  You can't fool us!  Those are Santa's reindeer looking for the North Pole = in fact, that looks remarkably like, "Blitzen"!

We are using T-Mobile cellular service and sometimes the parks have hotspots, we have the cellular booster which helps when the signal is marginal.

View from rear of our trailer at the Crescent Lake RV Park near Robert’s Arm. It’s a very nice private park with the best showers I’ve seen.

The Hazelnut Hill hiking trail goes around the Crescent lake approximately 6 miles for the entire loop.  It’s very well maintained with lots of signs, benches and viewing spots.

Beach that was a short walk from ***** Run campground

😂  With the forum software auto-censoring the park's name, I just *had* to investigate.  For those curious, the word is a name for a sex toy explicitly phallic in appearance. Think, Waldo, and you're on the right track...

I'm guessing that it was named for someone with an unfortunate surname. There should be a link to the park here

Absolutely stunning scenery and photos!
