  1. Last fall, we began the search for the perfect for us hard sided trailer. Initially we had our eyes set on a casita (my choice) or a scamp (his choice). And since we couldn't come into agreement on which one, we put it off. I'm so glad we did because about 6 weeks later we discovered The Oliver. It's as if the heavens opened and we both knew straight away this was our "perfect for us" trailer. We ordered our trailer October 2016, and due to weather, had to wait until the end of March 2017 to pick it up. We arrived at the Oliver main office from Colorado to pick it up on a day Hohenwald had shut down schools because of a tornado warning. After a quick meet and greet with Heather and Anita, we drove over to the plant to pick up our Colo Ollie. Jason gave us a thorough walk through of our trailer and although a few things had to be taken care of before we headed out to the campground to test it out, Jason, Dustin, and Justin as well as a few others graciously got those few things in order for us before we left that day (and supplied a bit of comic relief). We slept well that night (no tornados in sight) and Jason was even kind enough to answer a few questions via text after hours that night. The next morning, we went back to the plant and Jason walked through winterization with Lenny and winterized our Ollie for us since we were headed back to Colorado. In addition they also fixed one of the drawers and a switch. Our pick up experience was fabulous. The team at Oliver went above and beyond for us. Thank you Oliver and your awesome team for your time and attention to our needs and questions!

  2. Not sure is anyone is interested, but posting anyway... our first real mod is done to accommodate our 18 pound furry traveling companion... she demands to sleep at the foot of our bed, but the twins in Ollie aren't big enough. So added a 18x30 cushion between the beds for her. The support is light weight, fiberglass covered nidacore. It's stiff, flat, strong and weighs a little over two pounds. The support can serve as a table if desired, and the cushion can serve as a back support up against the kitchen counter when watching movies. The support stows under the mattress when not in use. It's short enough so that we can still get out of bed easily at night.

  3. I have to say that this is one of the more extravagant designs I have ever seen. It defies logic and basic engineering principles to have that much mass swinging around so far above the single mounting point. If it fails, you will wreck both bikes and the front of your Ollie..... I would not risk using this Rube Goldburg device. Can't you use a roof rack on your tow vehicle? Is the problem with mounting a rack on the back of the trailer due to sloppy fit in the receiver? That is super easy to fix. This works great and totally eliminates all movement due to clearance between the two parts. It might make sense to try this first, before getting too concerned about other mounting locations... https://www.amazon.com/Hitch-Clamp-Anti-Rattle-coupling-Tightener/dp/B013J6O5H0/ref=sr_1_cc_9?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1491877791&sr=1-9-catcorr&keywords=Trailer+hitch+stabilizer John Davies Spokane WA

  5. We picked up Hull #201 March 27 and had a wonderful week on the road visiting Nashville and Cleveland on the way back to New Jersey. It was a great experience at the factory and the sales center. Many thanks to the Oliver team!

  8. This is a reply to Grey Ghost's post. I investigated this option last fall. It looked promising, but there isn't enough clearance to avoid issues when making tight turns.

  9. I just put on a front mount hitch for a Bike rack I'm going to try. I have only tried it around town and next month I will take it on the road to the rallies to see how she goes. I put on my own hitch took around an hour or two pretty easy. Looks like it will work quite well we'll see. The rack will support two bikes up to 45 lbs each. Thanks Gary

  11. I am going to try this with a front mount bike rack have not gone on a trip with it yet I did try it around town and seem to work well. I will have it on my trip to the Rallies next month so that will be my first long drive test. I did get the one that the bike tires are what is supporting the weight on the rack and it had a 45 lbs capacity per bike vs the Swagman like this one was 35 lbs. We will see but I put on my own front hitch which was easy took less than two hours and can even use to pull my Trailer around to park if needed. At least another option I'll try a few photos. Thanks Gary

  13. The biggest problem with any single point bike system is that there is just too much mass to balance on the single point, I've found that by simply tying off the tires, to the ends of the bumper, creating a three point brace, spreads out the support enough to control it. With the Oliver's storage area you can also strap from a high point, on the bikes, to somewhere towards the front of the structure, to control front to back high point sway also.

  14. She's a beauty. Yep, the Oliver Team seems to get'er done. Wishing you the best in your travels with your new Oliver. Don't get too close to the cliff sides as one Ollie went over a few years ago. We are Dory and Rhett from Illinois and we happen to be #186. Good luck and God Bless.

  15. Thank you so much Reed and Karen! I agree about Olivers. So many great options that the others don't even come close to.

  18. I use "The Collar" along with the Gus Hill lock. The Gus Hill lock looked to be the strongest one that I could find. The collar lock is great while traveling to make sure the hitch doesn't open and also slow down someone from removing the camper from your tow vehicle. Also don't forget to lock your tow bar to your receiver!

  19. Would something like this work for you? It might be preferable to keep the weight off the back of the trailer for sway prevention. https://www.etrailer.com/ball-mounts/curt/d210.html

  20. Will your vehicle accommodate a front receiver?

  21. Tomorrow is the big day that we are going home with the new trailer for the first time. So today, being that we haven't started the generator the entire time, we gave the ice chest a new home instead. We spent a nice week here in Sacramento just enjoying the weather and catching up with our appointments that we had made before we left here in town. It snowed last night at our house and we missed one of the worst Winters on record by traveling to Hohenwald and picking up our New Lil' Nugget. We've almost reached the end of our first journey :) The old Masterlock set works ok on the Bulldog but it's not perfect. I've had it for a few years and it served its purpose once again, but I'm thinking for the best security, I should just pull the 2 bolts and remove the whole hitch because it's just that simple to remove right now and I have a couple of locking hitch pins that can take their place if I make the holes a touch bigger. But for now, that's still in the thinking process.
