I run 60 psi., but when we received our trailer they were it 80 psi. I also let the helium out and put air back in, just don't want to deal with it down the road. I personally think it's just a selling gimmick for auto dealership to make money, I know I spent 35 years at one. If it's your thing them do it, it's neither a good, or bad thing for me. trainman

A sign shop did mine for me, I drew a design on my computer with "Paint Brush" and took it to a local sign shop, they redrew it and got my ok. It is 22" wide and they did it for $60.00, I though it was a bargain. trainman

One other thing I thought of using is black vehicle 3m striping, does hold up well on exterior use, so clean the vinyl with a good cleaner product for vinyl and put it on. This striping is sold in different sizes, so measure an order the color and size you would need, 1" should work well. I would put it one with the molding installed on the windows because of the rounded corners. Being a retired body shop for 35 plus years I see no problem why this wouldn't work. If your not good with working with decals/striping materials get help from someone who is. trainman

csevel, thanks for that info on a dye, I see that it is for interior, so using it outside may require using it more often, but I see that is not being a problem. Let us know how will it holds up, I know it will take time for your posting on this. trainman

Wow, I just looked it up at Pellandent and it is priced a $5.17 per foot, plus shipping. I think I can take my white out and repaint it with a black vinyl spray paint and do a very good job. What is the worst that can happen, I have to repaint it in 2-3 years and it will probably do the same thing the white did over a period of time as it probably the same material. I will let you know how this works out in the future. trainman

Are factory mods completely off the table now???
Trainman replied to thatfield's topic in General Discussion
I would say that you get your trailer the way you want it, We ordered the standard Elite II in 2019 with only 4 options. Convection Oven, Propane quick disconnects, Electronic Door Lock, and Bicycle Rack. We have the standard white counter tops which looks classier then the colored ones, we think, no electronic upgrades, no solar, or upper cost batteries. With cell phones what they are today and a Hotspot you will find yourself pretty well connect where most places you will go, or go to a McDonald's and use there WIFI. To your thinking about resale on your trailer, first let me say here at the speed that electronics are changing everyday what you buy today will be obsolete tomorrow. Plus your Oliver is equipped from the factory where all there accessories can be added at there service department if wanted. So anyone purchasing your trailer used can take it to Oliver and have it upgraded to the newest stuff on the market today, I would worry about resale. Not sure about the Taoglas Antenna, but will look into it, I will say here the factory accessory roof antenna for TV is not very good, I didn't order mine with one and use the King Omni portable antenna and plug it into the auxiliary antenna plug on the outside of the trailer, works much then our other Oliver camping buddies with the factory antenna. trainman -
How Many Pounds of Stuff do You Carry?
Trainman replied to Mike and Carol's topic in Towing an Oliver
Wow, some take everything they own with them, wouldn't it be easier just to stay home. We are minimalist when we camp, so for the time being we have not really missed much and it we just need it the second, or third time we go the Walmart. If it takes us longer them 30 mins. to setup and take down a campsite we got too much stuff. trainman -
I've owned two Ridgeline's and pulled many two wheel trailers, both RV (Casita) and Utility trailers, I was very happy with the performance from the Ridgeline. I would not consider pulling an Elite II (4 wheel model) with the Ridgeline, it just couldn't do the job and it wouldn't be within the Ridgeline factory specs. trainman

I just buffed and waxed the trailer as I posted under this section and the window white trim is the last thing I need to deal with. I was going to call Oliver Service and see who manufactures these windows and see if I could buy the materials from them. I could go with the black if need be and if the white is going to do the same thing again (my trailer is a 2019) then black would be the better choice. My back emergency window has black and not white and it looks just fine to me, it does go well with the deep tint glass and is pretty much unnoticeable. The black looks like a better choice over the long haul. trainman

Install marine faucet/shower head?
Trainman replied to Steph and Dud B's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
We have pretty much stopped using the shower in the trailer and use the camping facilities, just so much easier to do and I can stay in there as long as I want. We don't Boondock so we always stay where shower are available to us. But for those who do, I would shower with a friend to save water, makes sense to me. trainman -
I've had to do several things on my trailer to get them to work better, 1. lube the pin on the Anderson hitch will make a big difference in it's use, 2. drill out the pin holes on the rear bumper so the pins will go in and out with much more easy (John way is the proper way to do it), 3. file the side slide cut on the folding steps so the steps would slide properly, be surprised taking off a 100/1000's of a inch will do. I find that just about everything I buy these days needs a little tweaking to make it work correctly, I sometime wonder what people who are not mechanical minded do, use this forum and learn, good source for knowledge. trainman

So after a 2 1/2 year period of owing our Elite II and setting outside in the Texas sun our fiberglass gelcoat was beginning to show some chalking and dulling and in need of a buff and wax job. Now being a retired body shop mgr. for some 35 years at a large DFW dealership doing the proper job was not a problem for me, but at 76 it wouldn't be doing it like I was 40, for sure. I used my 7" buffer and wool buffing pads, I used the Velcro system pads and buffer backing plate, the tie on pads are pretty much useless. I first buffed with Mequiar's #67 RV and Marine compound which did a very good job and really cut the oxidation, probably running the buffer back and fourth on the surface 8-10 times till the gelcoat what at a very high luster, due note here, the top of the trailer and ends we the most dulled areas on the trail, but I did the whole trail just because I didn't want to do a partial job when it comes to doing something. Due note here, I did have to use scaffolding to do the top, you will not be able to reach far enough in with a ladder, plus the scaffolding is much more safe for this old guy. I did the top and ends in one day and the sides the next day. Now for the Mequiar's Flagship RV and Marine polish which I put on by hand and took off with a orbital buffer and a polishing pad for it's final on this project, I hope this will last another couple of years before it needs another buff job, but will polish once a year to help preserve the finish. I watched several video's on YouTube on this and this guy knew what he was doing, or the way I would do it, trainman

All I know is I carry two 20 footers, I also don't use the ones that come with the Oliver, I purchased the Camco orange and black ones that will collapse up and not stay like a live snake when handling it, or not using it. trainman
-
My biggest thought is since the price between the two is so close, why would you even consider the 19 footer. I do realize that maybe because your tow vehicle would not handle the larger trailer, but I would consider changing tow vehicles before I would give up trailer size for the price difference. trainman

Pineknot (Grapeland, Texas) October 20-24, 2021
Trainman replied to Cslcs25's topic in Events & Rallies
We attended the Rally and all was fine. Sorry but for some reason the four other Oliver owners did not attend this year that usually come, for what reasons I do not know. We were the only Oliver there so we did get much attention to our trailer and several came buy and asked questions. This is mainly a Casita rally, but as you know many Casita owners move on to the larger fiberglass trailers, like the Oliver's and Escapes. There is no need to sign up for this rally as there are some 500 places to camp, this Camp ground is setup for large Blue Grass Festivals so space is no problem, but signing up in advance is recommended, but you pay no money at that time, all paid when you showup. trainman -
I tow my 2019 Oliver Elite II with a 2019 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 Hemi and the stock rear end gears and it pulls great. When I went to purchase my new Ram the 3.0 Eco Diesel was not available at that time, but the dealer did have three 2018's left overs in stock. I might have looked at them, but the new 2019 Ram was such a better all around truck that I didn't really give it much thought. Now three years down the road with the 5.7 Hemi the 3.0 Eco Diesel just wouldn't be my choice today if I were to get another tow vehicle, which with 18,000 miles on the 2019 Ram I probably won't be doing for a few years. So for myself I have never been able to put the figures down on paper and see that it would workout for me, but it you can make the 3.0 figures work for you, then go for it. I will say one thing here, I'm only going to drive my vehicles to around 50,000 miles and then trade them off for something else, why, because I can and I like new toys. trainman

2022 Toyota Tundra - Sept 19th official video release
Trainman replied to Patriot's topic in General Discussion
Looks like my wife's new Lexus RL350 in the front, I'd hate to walk out in our garage and couldn't tell them apart, well you get the idea. I like the Japanese vehicles and would have purchased the Tundra back in 2019 when we purchased the 2019 Ram, but the Tundra was old school then. By the way the Ram is the best truck I have ever purchase to date. trainman -
I'm not too big on water filter systems, just have that Blue Filter and that works for me. I know many like a much better filter system and if that's your choice, go for it. Just one more thing and why you can't be a Minimalist Camper. trainman
-
I go for that Minimalist Camping, we came from a Casita so we were prepared for what we needed. All being said, yes there will be some items that you will want to have, but I have found that miss it once you may not need it, but miss it twice you might consider it. My last purchase was a "Honey Pot" having to unhook and go to the dump station is not that much fun. I can say that our RAM 4x4 truck was packed full of stuff when we went to pickup our new trailer, I was wondering a smaller vehicle might be a problem for some. trainman

I was stopped at a fuel station and a Gladiator came in with an Oliver Elite II so I asked the owner how he liked his Gladiator and Oliver towing, he said it was doing fine and this was his first trip with the Gladiator Sahara and the Oliver. He was some 200 miles from home and he was an 82 year old gentleman and this was his first RV in some 15 years, so I didn't go with any more questions as I feel if he was happy then all was ok for him. The rig looks great together, but just didn't think it would work for me. trainman

2021 Elite II Girard Awning collects water
Trainman replied to Ray and Susan Huff's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
John, I did see your window gutters that you added, they look nice and go with the trailer and looks like they belong there. trainman -
City water pressure gauge settings
Trainman replied to Trainman's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
Since mine is set a 45 and I have had no problems with that pressure, I think I will just leave it there. Our last camping grounds we had 41 there which got me to thinking about water pressure, so that is why I asked the question. trainman -
I'll make it simple: Ram, 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi Ford, with the 3.5 V6 turbo, don't get the smaller turbo, I think it's the 2.7 engine Chevrolet, with the 5.2 V8 Toyota, Tundra, I would pass on the present model, but the new 2022 with have a V6 and the V8 is going away, worst fuel mileage of all others. PS, if don't want to have to use the Anderson Hitch you can go with a 3/4 ton in any of the models above and you will be fine, you may give up a little in fuel mileage and ride comfort. I tow my 2019 Elite II with the Ram 1500 Hemi 4x4 and I don't even know it's back there most of the time, so the decisions are many and any truck 1/2 or larger will do the job just fine. I get between 12.7 and 13.2 mpg One other thought is go with a 4x4 model, it will have a heavier rating and the truck will set taller, plus 4x4's will have better resale values and much more in demand. Personally the mid-size trucks you give up a lot of extra room inside and out, plus the full size truck just do everything better for about the same cost. trainman

Just wondering what pressure you set your inlet city pressure to, mine is set at 45, is that too low. I'm using a gauge with a dial and not the inline that came with the trailer. trainman
