HOW TO: Move the factory cargo tray to a rear rack
Landrover replied to John E Davies's topic in Ollie Modifications
John I like your mod very nicely done. I would caution carrying fuel containers on the rack. Your fuel cans may withstand a rear end collision explosion/fire, but showing members that its a good place to carry fuel containers may not be a good suggestion. Just a word of caution, in some states this may be illegal. -
Command strips work very well on the fiberglass. Prepping with alcohol wipes is key. I used them on a clock and a weather station. I take them down before traveling having them bang around while traveling may cause marks on the fiberglass or may or may not hold up with all the movement.

My cooler has an auto shut off if battery voltage drops to a certain level to prevent a dead battery and allow enough volts to start the vehicle. When parked at the camp site, the cooler is plug into 110v when traveling it’s plugged into 12v my cooler will stay cold for several hours completely unplugged as long as the cover remains closed.

Our cooking changes depending on where we are. If possible, we like to support the local mom & pop restaurants. Cooking outside is the best either with the Weber Q or the Blackstone griddle, and sometimes the mood is lazy quick microwave meals. I Also carry a 12v 110v cooler freezer in the back of the truck. We always wind up carrying more food than needed.

Checked the video same as mine. This fan seems like it will be on a routine maintenance schedule. I already had to clean the screen twice dirt and lint builds up quickly.

Except about talking Fords and Dodges.😳😉

In my opinion, if your looking for a little of the best of everything. Comfort. Fuel economy, tow rating, cargo rating and long hauling. 2500 series trucks or Suvs. Would be the best choice. This has been long debated issue. Bottom line personal preference, what ever your most comfortable with,

This is a very difficult question to answer. Your personal space requirements may be different than others. I went from a larger Rv and welcomed the downsizing of the Oliver. You need a place to sleep eat and a place to clean up wash shower. Some that have larger Rvs may not like the smaller space. Smaller Rvers and people that used tents love and welcome the size of the Oliver, best bet take the tour of the Oliver plant and visit one in person to get your own feel of it. I think you’ll like it. Good luck

This was a thread about chains vs cables a few months ago. As is to all its a personal choice. I thought it interesting that Oliver made the change.

I was looking at the new owners photos taking delivery. I noticed that Oliver went back to break away chain’s instead of cables. If so, good change out,

I was trying to research federal and state law about dumping grey water on the ground its all over the board. One interesting thing is kitchen sink water in some cases is considered black waste water. Bottom line that most say use common sense. And don’t tic off the enforcement agent 🤬when they come knocking at your door.

Thanks for the reply’s. I was skeptical about posting mods. I’m not one to put pen to paper as you can see from all the crooked pictures, and like John D who does a great job detailing on mods. Most of my fabrication and mods are from thought, eyes and hands not much paper. That being said as for measurements, nothing written down. Simple way. Open the compartment door measure top edge of opening to center of dump handle do the same from the side. Close compartment door and do the same measurement from the compartment opening not the door edge. The two measurements marked on the door will bring you to the center of the dump handle. Only measured ten times to verify, before using the hole saw. One thing i was surprised to see the compartment door is not solid fiberglass, its two thin layers with a plastic honey comb material in between. Still a strong door. One thing i forgot to mention. Because i wanted the smallest opening 3in i had to trim off approx 1/8 in off each side of the handle to be able to pull the handle through the hole easy. Another surprise. The tee handles are not plastic they are aluminum with a black coating, good quality. 2019 model year.

I haven’t seen many Ollie mods posted in awhile. I thought I’d share one of several i did recently. while camping with full hookup i keep my grey water valve open. I didn’t like the idea of having the basement door open while the valve was open. And having the valve open slightly With the door closed didn’t seem like a good idea. The pictures show what i came up with. Just a note. This access hatch is stainless steel one of the reasons for it, was its a 3in opening smallest available. All the white plastic versions are 4in and larger. I will say it does look good in stainless. Install was straight forward a 3in hole saw stainless hardware, measured 90 times then measured another 90. Wiped the sweat of my head and did it. My first major cut into Ollie.

I think you spelled moderators wrong. It’s spelled members. Lol

Thanks for the responses. Would it be right to say it doesn’t mater what you charge with, solar or generator. The on board charging regulator charges at one rate only, and that rate determines how long it takes to change the batteries ?
-
If you search the forum there was a discussion on this issue. I almost opted for the Truma. For those who have it they love it. For many years of rving the standard 6Gal worked great no problems. Plenty of hot water for two. I keep mine on elec setting then when its shower time i use the propane setting never ran out of hot water yet. Plus the cost of the Truma option, you can replace the standard water heater with another new one and still be ahead of the game.

I’m not trying to compare solar vs honda generators. My question would be to most of the forum members who know the math charging hours amp hours etc. how long would it take to charge 4 agm battery’s under normal daily use with a honda 1000 watt generator vs the changing rate of the optional solar panel that comes with the Oliver. Math is not my strong point. The simplest explanation would help. Thanks

Speak to Jason directly at service. There is a reset for the thermostat by holding two buttons at the same time. Sorry I forgot which ones they were,

Shackelfords im not sure about the fraud protection with Gas Buddy. If your card is compromised your bank account will be vulnerable to theft and your account can be drained before you know it happened. At least with a credit fuel card the credit card company takes the hit for the loss. It maybe harder to recoup your loss with your bank. Just a thought. Card theft happens more at fuel stations than anywhere else.

Also looks like a 1ton 4x4 conversion

I had a bad experience at Loves Truck Stop. This is a word of caution to watch your surroundings at these big truck stops. I was at Loves truck stop at the Florida, GA, line. All the pumps were full, very busy. I used my credit card and started fueling. There was what appeared to be an employee at the pump with a bucket and cleaning supplies. Like most, you want to fuel and get back on the road quickly. Which i did no problems. After many hours of driving it was time to refuel. Using my card again it was declined. Calling the card company they informed me that another $500.00 fuel purchase was put on my card at the Loves truck stop at Fl Ga. I called the manager of that loves, and explained what happened. He explained that there employees must wear reflective vests that say loves. And when they clean the area, the pump section is closed off. The manager contacted the State Police who then contacted me. The State Police was able to make an arrest based on video recordings. I was told that Five other Truck stops were hit the same way. I was also told this is a common practice that the bad guys go to the busiest truck stops, blend in and are able to get your card info. They said this guy read my card as i put it in the pump. I am still amazed this guy was not that close to me. And the State police said no electronic card reader was used. Beware. Lesson learned.

Oliver Serv. Dept. referred me to Tri am Rv center located in Ocala, Florida. They are a small family operated Rv dealership. I was skeptical about bringing my Oliver to any Rv dealer for warranty repair. Oliver service dept. nailed it. This dealership provided Great Service, Big thanks to Oliver serv dept. Call the service dept. first they are a great help finding the right Rv dealerships for repairing your Ollie.

Welcome Moving into your new Oliver is tent camping on steroids. As with tent camping you bring certain things to make camping comfortable. Oliver supplies you a great starter kit. Bring things that you would use at home. Not to much. You’ll start up loading everything then with experience you’ll use and take less. Lately i have been going to Gander outdoor for rv supplies. There are many Rv supply stores, even Walmart. As with everyone who first starts out its a learning experience. It’s all part of the fun of camping. Good luck with your new Oliver the most important part, have safe travels and enjoy.
