Blue Sky Indicates 91% Battery, fully hooked up!
SeaDawg replied to Wayfinder's topic in Mechanical & Technical Tips
The blue sky runs on algorithms. It resets itself when you are truly 100 per cent, if it's a bit off. Ryan is the most excellent service guy, at blue sky. If you call him, make sure you know model number of your controller, and battery specs. (Manufacturer, size, etc.) When the sun goes down, or, if you can trip a breaker and turn off power coming in from solar, and disconnect from hookups, after 20 minutes, what does your battery read, on seelevel, and blue sky? (Turn off any load items- furnace, fan, etc.) Your problem could be with the shunt, settings, or a myriad of other things, but I'd start as above. I'll look up Ryan's email and phone number, after you've checked the true battery voltage. After 20 to 30 minutes of rest, with no load, you should see true battery voltage on both blue sky and seelevel. Mine are usually .1 volts different, but insignificant. -
You can go to a CAT scale, and take two measurements. Or,,find a friend with a tongue scale.

The deadbolt in my 2008 is sticking ,again, and I don't want to get locked out. Lubing isn't working. On the list to replace sometime this year. I'll go with the handle lock for awhile. I'd rather someone defeated a lock, than broke a window. I don't have a whole lot of interest to steal, in the trailer, anyway . I'd miss my hiking boots, though. Ten years old, repaired multiple times. Those, I'd miss.

Pretty much all major (real estate, vehicle transfer, etc ) transactions are done via wire transfer. It takes a tiny bit more trouble, but bank checks/cashiers checks are old school, easily forged, and unacceptable. Call your bank rep, for best advice.

Which pd charger/converter are you using, with lithium?

Amazing photos. Amazing trip. Thanks for sharing, and the tips. Happy travels!

Toyota Tacoma and Elite II ??? Anyone tow with this combination?
SeaDawg replied to doc foster's topic in Towing an Oliver
One of our friends has had 3 Tundras, over 2 decades . The reliability has been amazing. They don't update often, but, my friend says, why mess with success . -
Does Oliver still use the progressive dynamics? I didn't think so, but I could be wrong. Anything I write is a bit of history. Older units, transfer switch. Pd converter charger. Separate (heavy) inverter. Blue sky solar controllers. The prowatt (i think) is strictly an inverter. Would require a separate charger/converter. We abandoned our inverter 6 or 7 years ago, as we no longer needed it, it died, didn't feel the need to replace. Anything 110, we charge from the genset.

Nan, you could check with Good Sam's for a quote. We've had them since day 1. We call in when the trailer is in storage, call four days before we take it out, and get a credit. What we pay is irrelevant, as a 2008. In the beginning, we had full replacement value for a few years. Good Sam's uses different companies on different regions. We also use their towing and roadside insurance. Covers all our vehicles, towing or not,,and has been good in the five or six times we've needed it.

There are a bunch of Ollies out there, following behind Tundras, of various years. Most seem very happy. https://olivertraveltrailers.com/forums/search/?q=Tundra elite Ii&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and -
Well, that was (kind of) our original route. At the time, 2008, most small trailers had only one battery, group 27 or even smaller. Still common today, in the size of our smaller Elite . We were delighted to have two (2!) flooded batteries, doubling our reserve power.😄 Florida heat, and maintenance of checking water levels, moved us to agms when the flooded batteries died. Two 12v Agms have served us very well. We're on the fence as to whether we "need" lithium, or not. We'll decide when the current agms give us issues. I would love the extra capacity vs space, in our smaller tray. But, realistically, I doubt we " need " them. My husband wants to do the upgrade. We talk about it frequently. (At least twice, today.) We use very little battery power, except for our dc danfoss/secop fridge. We pretty much treat our trailer like a hard sided , comfy tent. Most of our battery power goes to the fridge. Without that, with a 3way fridge, we were golden, for weeks and months on end. (2 x 105 ah 12v batteries ) With the fridge, We're still good, in good weather, or we run the generator when we have to. Depending on the site, shade, etc. Especially weather. We've gone 15 or 20 days, even with the 60 amp hour / day draw of the fridge, in good weather, and two days in crummy weather. (!) With a 3way fridge, running on gas, , never a consideration. (We have 400 watts rooftop solar and 200 portable ) 90 or 120 days without plugging in, camping . We try to camp where we don't need ac. We don't have a microwave, anymore, because we didn't use it. We don't have an inverter. Like I said, we camp, like the trailer is a hard side, comfy tent. It's all about your comfort zone, where and when you camp. I'm not a desert camper (though we've done it), I like green trees, water views, and moderate temps. The Appalachians are our faves, and Canada, in summer, especially the Yukon. Big decisions.

Alaska and BC planning for September, need some info
SeaDawg replied to John E Davies's topic in Campgrounds & Parks
So, I'm guessing you are taking the Cassiar Highway up to Watson Lake, and then on to Whitehorse? It wasn't a great ride in the old days, but it's really pretty, and also pretty desolate. A number of provincial campgrounds along the way, many of them lakeside . Boya Lake is our very favorite, especially if you can arrive midweek and can snag a lakeside campsite. Some of the sites up the ridge also offer pretty views,, but lakeside sites are pretty big,, and easy.. No power, no flush toilets. But, nice clean vault toilets. Usually water, but sometimes not. There's a spring down the road somewhere, where those in need filled jugs. We were ok with what we carried. I'll be following you (jealously). Northern BC and the Yukon are the best parts of our Alaskan trips, with the exception of visiting my cousin in Denali, and the 50 miles of Richardson Hwy approaching Valdez. -
That's one of the primary purposes of the forum--sharing experiences. Ask away. We only have a curbside awning, manual, on our 2008. We move our chairs to a shady spot, sometimes, but not often. Usually, other than lunch, by the time we're sitting, the sun is lower, anyway. Probably depends on where and how you camp, imo.

Thanks for that info. I downloaded windy, and I'll give it a try. Safe travels, and enjoy beautiful BC. We have really enjoyed our visits to Prince Rupert. Hope you do, too . Safe travels. -
There's that thought, @bhncb . We started with flooded batteries, and changed up to agm when we killed the first set, in our Elite, which only holds 2 batteries. (Originally group 27, now group 31 agm.) My thought is, fla is included in the base price. Agm is one step up. Lithium a big step up. There are many factors to consider in making a choice. Durability. Speed of charging. Maintenance. Ventinhg and outgassing. Ease of storage. And then, there's amp hours, and depth of allowable discharge. How much dry camping will you actually do? Kind of dizzying, I think, for some folks new to rvs.

So, does anyone know which flooded lead acid batteries are standard now, other than that they are 4 x group 27? It would be interesting to look at the cost per useable amp hour comparisons?

Welcome to the forum, and congrats! I hope you enjoy your Ollie as much as we've enjoyed ours for the last 14 seasons.

Congratulations! I'm super happy for you. Consider a jog east, to avoid the fires, and smoke? Same travel time,
